Chapter 13
The moment they arrived at the location someone was already waiting for them, they were in a park and the lady whose name was Daisy led them to the serene area of the park. The rest of the family were there and they were all dressed up as if they were attending a wedding.
This made Nat’s stomach hurl into knots. She doesn’t like this feeling so she excused herself to Daisy and distanced herself from the herd and left Steve to set up her equipment. When she saw that she was far enough for them to hear her she immediately made a call to Nick.
“Fury, what the hell is this?” she said furiously on the phone, “well, hello to you too Natasha.” Nick said sarcastically “have you met with the client yet?”
“I’m here now, and what is this? Why is there a wedding?” Nat asked anxiously. “I told you, Nick, I don’t do weddings.”
“Well, it’s not a wedding Natasha it’s for their mom and dad’s golden anniversary and they wanted a family portrait it’s not even in a church, no big deal,” Nick explained to her.
“No big deal? Nick, you know from the very beginning that I don’t do weddings or whatever this is, you should’ve asked Maria instead,” she complained. “Well, I would have but Miss Wright was the one who recommended you and Daisy insisted that you do it, so there you are now.” Nick retorted.
Nick heard her sigh deeply and that got him worried. “I thought your only allergic to church wedding Nat?” he asked her worriedly she didn’t answer and just took another sigh. “Look, I’m sorry Natasha I thought you got over that if I have known I would’ve never put you in that situation.”
Natasha could hear the real concern in his voice, “you owe me big time Nick, and make sure this never happens again.” She demanded.
Nick was relieved that she’ll go through it despite having inhibitions. “Thanks, Nat, and I promise this will never happen again.”
After talking to Nick she calmed and readied herself and walked towards Daisy.
“So, are we ready?” she asked Daisy. “Just a moment please mom is still getting ready, and Natasha thank you so much for doing this regardless of the short notice.” “I just really wanted to give them this as a special gift, I wanted them to remember their garden wedding with us around this time they’ve been through so much and I’m just thankful they’re able to fight for their love despite all the odds.”
Natasha has no response to this so she just gave her a sincere smile. She was still apprehensive but she’ll give her all in this work just like she always does.
The photo shoot went on for a while, she had taken a photo of the whole family present and the next sequence was recreating the garden wedding from fifty years ago.
She talked to the old couple and instructed them how to pose and create gestures that would make a perfect shot. As she continued taking photos of them she could see that the couple had for one another was overflowing and that sent a pang in her heart.
She was truly happy for them, but she couldn’t help but feel pain as well and she was getting emotional. She was holding back her tears and she couldn’t let Steve see that who was currently holding the reflector to give her better lighting.
She told Steve to step back just so he won’t see her get emotional. “You both look wonderful,” she told the couple sincerely.
“Steve, step back some more.” She told him demandingly,
He stepped back some more, ”Is this far enough?” he asked.
“No, step back some more,” she told him and he did, but she kept telling him to move some more and that confused him.
“Nat, I don’t think at this distance the reflector would affect the photo anymore,” He complained.
She turned back to him “It does!” she answered him quite annoyed.
She brought her attention back to the couple while harshly wiping the lone tear that escaped her eye.
“Wow, you two are making me so emotional,” she told them and continued taking shots of them.
The photoshoot has ended and she showed them some of the shots she took and fortunately she had gathered herself up and was more composed than earlier. Steve had no clue of the emotional breakdown she had earlier.
“These are truly amazing shots Natasha,” Daisy told them and she just gave a polite smile at that.
“She’s right dear,” Melinda May added and Phil nodded his agreement. “That’s why I’ll hire you once we reach another milestone,” Melinda May said lovingly.
Natasha stiffened after hearing that but snapped out of it immediately. She smiled at the couple politely and told them that she’ll recommend someone better than her for that matter.
Steve was just by her side the entire conversation and kept his mouth shut. After packing all her stuff they started heading to the parking lot which was quite far from her liking. They just walked in silence and Steve felt that she was giving him cold shoulders the entire time.
He wanted to ask her about it then suddenly a heavy drop of rain started pouring, Steve kept calling for her name, but Natasha just kept on walking as if she heard nothing.
“Nat, the camera will get wet!” he shouted and that made her stop and look back at him.
“Let’s get to that gazebo for a bit and wait out for the rain to calm.” He told her and Natasha had no choice but to follow him.
