Chapter 7
After telling her friends about her unfortunate run-in with Steve and his friends at the grocery store she started telling them about what had happened three years ago.
They looked at her dumbfounded and like she was crazy.
“Natasha, oh my gosh! You got into an accident?” asked Wanda in a sarcastic way.
“No, that will be my alibi for having amnesia,” Natasha stated like it was nothing.
“Really, Nat? You’re going with that? Isn’t that a bit too much?” Asked Maria concernedly.
“Yeah, why would you make up such a story? That was too much,” Wanda added.
“What? I’d like to be prepared, I don’t want a repeat of what happened in the grocery store.” Natasha answered shrugging her shoulders.
“So, are you saying that you’ll be seeing him again and that’ll be your excuse for not remembering them?” Clint butted in.
“No, and yes, no I will not be seeing him again and yes that was my excuse for not remembering them just in case I had another run-in with any of them,” Nat said talking to Clint on the screen. “It’s better to be prepared at all times.”
“Whatever you say Nat, but just be careful alright?” Clint said in a brotherly tone. The concern on his face was visible he don’t think he can bear another breakdown from Nat. What he saw three years ago broke his heart. Seeing his little sister so broken and lost was unbearable for him.
He looked at Maria and Wanda seeing the same concerned look in their eyes. They were the ones who witnessed Natasha in her lowest and they don’t want a repeat of that. How they wish that Steve had never shown up in her life once again.
Natasha saw the concerned look they were giving her so she had to assure them. “Don’t worry guys I won’t let that happen to me ever again.” She replied with a warm smile.
“But why do you have to make it so complicated? You could’ve just yelled at him, curse him, or better yet punch his perfect teeth.” Wanda asked.
“Yeah Nat, why not just punch his pretty face? He very much deserved it, you should’ve used those moves you learned from your taijutsu training” Maria added playfully just to lighten up the mood.
“Damn! I should’ve done that but, I was caught off-guard okay?! It’s not like I was expecting to ever see him again, and technically I did forget about him. He was dead to me and seeing him there, it was like seeing someone coming back from the dead.” Natasha said defensively.
“And besides what’s done is done so let’s just forget about it, it’s not like I’ll be seeing him ever again,” Natasha said hopefully.
“Let’s hope your right Nat, you’ve come this far and we don’t ever wanna see you in that dark place anymore,” Clint said lovingly.
Natasha gave them a warm smile and reassured them that she won’t ever go back to that. “I won’t Clint, I’ve built a strong armor around this.” She said placing her hand on her chest where her heart was kept.
They just looked at her longingly they witnessed how she built that wall around her all these years just to protect her heart from the pain. They were glad that she had recovered from the past but at what cost? She built a wall so high around her that would keep the pain out but that also keeps the love from getting in. all they wanted was to see her happy once again they miss the old Natasha that would brighten up the room with just her smile. After what happened to her and Steve it seems like a part of her was also gone. They just hope that one day she’ll find that love she deserves and bring back that lost part of her.
