robo daddy!
With Shuri not being in Wakanda or the states for that matter, she couldn’t do the bi-monthly check up on his arm. Instead, she had sent him to some guy that she knew. Apparently he was a wiz when it comes to robotics. Bucky wasn’t sure about it but if Shuri trusted him that was good enough for him. Plus, he doubted that Tony would want to work on his arm.
Bucky’s only problem with the guy so far was that he lives in a cabin in the snowy mountains, and it was November. Overall, not a pleasant experience especially when he couldn’t drive his bike up there and had to work.
“This guy better be worth it.” Bucky muttered to himself.
Finally, he reached the cabin and went to knock on the door but was stopped by the intercom coming to life.
“Hello, can I help you?” An accented male voice can through the intercom.
Bucky couldn’t place the accent through the intercom, but it sounded familiar.
“Shuri sent me.” Bucky said.
There was pause before the voice said.
“Come in, I’m in the basement.”
The intercom cut off and the door opened by itself. If this was a horror movie, he’d be running down the mountain instead of entering the house. Then again most of his life could be seen as a horror movie. Shrugging off the thought, Bucky entered the house seen that it was a luxury and warm looking cabin. Bucky certainly wouldn’t mind staying here for a while, especially since all he was wearing was a red Henley and black hoodie.
The door closed behind him cementing the horror movie vibe.
Bucky followed the intercoms instructions and made he was downstairs to the basement, which was less of a basement and more of a workshop. Decidedly more organised then whatever Tony had going on.
In the midst of the organised chaos was a man. He had light brown hair that could be mistaken for blonde in certain lights, a short beard and eyes that reminded Bucky of those little toffee sweets from this century that he likes.
The man was wearing a soft looking cable knit sweater with some black jeans and black boots.
The man looked up at Bucky as he entered, and Bucky was immediately gone on the man.
“You must be Bucky.” The man said in an accent that Bucky noted was Spanish.
Bucky nodded, not trusting himself to not say something stupid.
“Great, I’m Alex. Take a seat.” Alex said, motioning to a chair.
Bucky did as he told, sitting down as Alex took a seat on a stool next to his left arm, some tools on a nearby table.
“You didn’t come here dressed like that, did you?” Alex asked concerned.
“Yeah.” Bucky said unsure.
“It’s a miracle that you didn’t freeze to death.” Alex said.
“Perks of being a super soldier.” Bucky said with a chuckle.
“You’re leaving here with a more suitable coat.” Alex said.
Based on his tone, Bucky knew it was best not to argue and he certainly wasn’t going to complain about getting a warmer coat for his journey back.
“Take of your jacket.” Alex said.
Bucky took off his jacket, draping it on a nearby table.
Once Bucky’s metal arm was free, Alex got to work, picking up the tools that he needed. Alex seemed to be in his element as he worked on his arm and Bucky felt like it was a privilege to watch the man work.
As Alex worked, something jumped into Bucky’s lap, startling the assassin. Bucky hadn’t realized that he was daydreaming that hard.
Bucky looked down at what had jumped in his lap.
“Is that a cat?” Bucky asked.
Alex looked at the robotic cat in Bucky’s lap.
“Yeah, I can get him off your lap if you want.” Alex said.
“No, it’s fine.” Bucky said.
Using his flesh hand, Bucky began scratching behind the robotic cats ears, making him purr.
“He seems to like you.” Alex commented.
“I like cats too.” Bucky said.
The cat climbed up Bucky’s chest, batting at the loose strands of hair dangling in front of Bucky’s face. Bucky smiled at the cat.
“Did you make him?” Bucky asked.
“Yeah, he acts like a real cat.” Alex said.
“Let me guess, that means he doesn’t listen to you.” Bucky said.
The cat looked up at Bucky with wide innocent eyes.
“Like you wouldn’t believe. Do you have a cat?” Alex asked.
Bucky nodded.
“Yeah, I have a white cat called Alpine. He can be a down right bastard at times.” Bucky said.
“I can relate.” Alex said looking at the now sleeping cat on Bucky’s chest before going back to his work.
Bucky continued to stroke the cat, focusing his attention there, but ever few seconds he snuck glances at the gorgeous man. He looked away before the man caught him staring. That would’ve been awkward.
Bucky gasped when Alex moved a particular wire.
“I’m sorry, did I hurt you?” Alex asked with an apologetic frown as he looked up at Bucky.
Bucky desperately wanted to kiss away that frown, but he didn’t. instead, he said.
“No, some of my wires are sensitive.” Bucky said.
Alex nodded.
“I’ll try to be more careful.” Alex said.
Bucky nodded, not knowing what to say. Alex continued with his work on Bucky’s arm, gentler this time which Bucky didn’t think was possible with how gentle he was being before.
A short while later, frankly not long enough for Bucky, Alex was done.
“All done.” Alex said.
Bucky nodded and swung his arm around, hearing the usual noise that he made. Bucky was careful not to jostle the cat or hit Alex as he did this.
“By the way, what’s your cat’s name?” Bucky asked.
“Gattino.” Alex said.
“You named your cat, cat?” Bucky asked.
“Don’t judge.” Alex said, arms crossed and an adorable pout on his face.
Bucky was reminded once again of how adorable this man was.
“Thanks for this.” Bucky said, motioning to his metal arm with the flesh one.
Alex smiled.
“It’s not problem, I practically jumped at the chance when Shuri offered.” He said.
“Really?” Bucky asked.
“How could I not, your arm is a work of art.” Alex said.
“Yeah, Shuri did some great work with it.” Bucky said.
Alex grabbed his hand, startling Bucky. He turned his hand around in his looking at the metal plates.
“Sorry.” Alex said when he noticed Bucky’s reaction.
“It’s fine.” Bucky said not moving his hand from Alex’s grip.
“It’s a shame that I won’t be able to work on it again.” Alex said, sounding upset by that.
“Well, Shuri isn’t going to be back for a while, so depending on what happens you might be working on my arm again soon.” Bucky said an idea forming in his head on how he could see the man again.
“The next time I see you will probably because your arm broke and if that’s the case, then I don’t want that to be the reason I see you.” Alex said.
Bucky shrugged, trying to act natural.
“With how dangerous my job is that could be a possibility.” He said.
“Let’s hope is doesn’t come to that.” Alex said.
Bucky smiled in response.
At that moment Gattino woke up and hoped off Bucky’s lap, moving to lay on his bed that was in the corner of the room.
“Wait here am I’ll get you a coat for your journey back down the mountain.” Alex said.
Before Bucky could respond Alex had left the basement, making his way upstairs.
Bucky waiting in his spot for Alex’s return, not entirely sure why he listened but if he looked for an answer it was because he was already gone on the man. Bucky slipped his jacket back on.
Alex returned a few minutes later with a thick winter coat, a hat, scarf, gloves, and a flask full of what smelt like hot chocolate.
“Thought you were only going to get me a coat.” Bucky said amused.
“I can’t in good conscious let you go down the mountain dressed like that. It’d be a travesty if you froze to death.” He said.
He set the stuff on the table, except the coat, which he helped Bucky into. Bucky just let Alex dress him up.
Once he was wrapped up tight in the coat, Alex wrapped the scarf around his neck and put the hat on him, complete with a pom pom. When they got to the gloves, Alex paused.
“I suppose you only need 1 glove don’t you.” He said.
“Yeah, but that would look weird.” Bucky said.
Alex nodded with a small tilt of his head.
Bucky slipped on the gloves and Alex shoved the flask into his hands.
“Now you’re ready for the mountain.” Alex said.
Bucky gave him a bright smile.
“Thanks, doll.” Bucky said, noting the way Alex’s cheeks heated up ever so slightly at the pet name.
“No problem.” Alex muttered.
Bucky stood up and Gattino lifted his head to see what he was doing.
“I’ll see you around, doll.” Bucky said
Against he better judgement, he pressed a kiss to Alex’s check. Before he had to deal with the consequences of his own actions, he raced out of the basement, making his way upstairs.
The front door opened for him again and Bucky couldn’t find it in himself to care. All he cared about was whether he ruined whatever he had with Alex by kissing his cheek. Bucky hoped he hadn’t.
Bucky left the cabin, immediately missing the warmth he felt from being inside. The door closed gently behind him.
Bucky buried his face in the scarf that Alex had given him, inhaling the man’s pleasant-smelling cologne.
With a dopey grin on his face, Bucky made his way down the mountain, back to his bike. He drank his hot chocolate as he did, noting the hints to cinnamon in it as well as what seemed to be melted marshmallows.
Reaching his bike, Bucky hopped on, looking less like a badass in his get up but it was a price to pay to be warm. Bucky certainly wasn’t going to complain if it meant that the man would touch him.
Sometime later, Bucky had made it back to the place that he was staying at. He parked his bike outside and entered his apartment. As he did, the kimono beads around his wrist lit up with a message.
Bucky answered the message and a video of Shuri popped up.
“Hey, white wolf. How is it going?” She asked.
“Good.” Bucky said.
She looked him up and down.
“What are you wearing?” She asked.
Bucky felt a blush rise to his cheeks as he buried his face in the scarf once again.
“It’s nothing, Alex just thought that I wasn’t going to be warm enough on my way down the mountain.” Bucky explained.
A smile broke out across her face and Bucky didn’t want to decipher what it meant.
“So, it’s Alex not Dr Garel?” She asked.
Bucky sighed.
“What do you want?” He asked.
“Hey, I just want to see how the check up on your arm went.” She said.
“It was fine.” He said, not wanting to give anything away.
“He didn’t break my baby did he?” She asked.
“Of course not, you wouldn’t have sent me to him if he would’ve.” Bucky said.
She nodded.
“That’s true.” She said.
“So, you’d be happy to be sent to him again?” She asked.
Bucky tilted his head in confusion.
“Are you going to send me to him again?” Bucky asked trying to not show how much he would’ve liked that.
“Just as a back up in case we find ourselves in this situation again.” Shuri said.
Bucky nodded.
“I wouldn’t mind it, but you’d have to ask him.” Bucky said.
Bucky secretly hopped his wouldn’t mind.
“I’ll ask him. Send me the data from the arm.” Shuri said.
Bucky nodded.
“I will.” Bucky said.
Someone got Shuri’s attention, but Bucky couldn’t see who.
“I’ll talk to you later, white wolf. Take care.” She said.
“You too.” Bucky said.
Shuri ended the call, the video disappearing.
Bucky sighed and began taking off the clothes that Alex had given him, hanging them up neatly, not wanting to damage them.
Entering the kitchen, he washed the flask that had been given to him, leaving it to dry on the rack.
Exiting the kitchen, he went into the living room, sitting down on the settee. Alpine immediately jumped into his lap, getting comfortable before laying down.
“Hello to you too.” Bucky said, scratching behind his ears making him purr.
Bucky stopped petting him for a moment which made Alpine dig his nails into Bucky’s thighs.
“Hold up, I need to send something to Shuri.” Bucky said trying to placate the annoyed cat.
Pressing some parts of the kimono beads that were on his metal arms, he sent the data from his arm to Shuri.
When he was done, he went back to stroking Alpine, which cheered him up enough to remove his claws from his thighs.
“That’s better.” Bucky said.
Alpine purred and went to sleep. Bucky didn’t stop stroking him lest he receive the wrath of Alpine’s claws.
Knowing that he wouldn’t be allowed to move for a while, Bucky picked up the remote and turned on the TV watching some of the Great British Bake Off, the show being his guilty pleasure, even if Bucky was a terrible cook.
After an entire season of the show and several instances of Bucky yelling at the contestants, Bucky decided it was time to go to bed.
Alpine must’ve sense this because he hoped off his lap, making his way to the bedroom.
Without anything better to do, Bucky followed his cat.
Alpine was scratching at the bedroom door when Bucky reached him. Bucky opened the door and Alpine ran into the room, jumping onto the bed and curling into a ball on the pillow, fast asleep.
‘Must be nice.’
Bucky entered the en suite that was connected to his bedroom and began his usual night-time routine.
Turning on the shower, Bucky stripped of his clothes, throwing them in the laundry bin and got in, not caring that the water hadn’t heated up yet.
Bucky washed himself for however long he damn well pleased now that hydra and the military for that matter were timing his showers.
When Bucky was squeaky clean, he hopped out of the shower and patted himself dry with a towel, not bothering to wrap it around his waist since the only person that would see him naked is Alpine.
He made his way back into his bedroom, glancing at Alpine for a brief second.
Walking over to the draws, Bucky opened them, pulling out a pair of black boxers. He slipped them on and closed the draw.
Bucky made his way to the bed and climbed in, pulling the covers over himself. Alpine stirred slightly but continued to sleep.
Bucky lied there awake as he wondered how he could see Alex again. He’d have to return his things, so that would be 1 way he could see the man.
He could break his arm to get him to fix it whilst Shuri is away.
He wonders if Clint would help him, knowing the archer he definitely would and wouldn’t ask too many questions.
As much as he didn’t want to he knew that he’ll have to ask Clint for help.
“Why didn’t I ask for his phone number?” Bucky groaned to himself.
Alpine’s tail hit him in the face as if his cat was telling him that he was an idiot for not asking.
“I don’t need you judging me.” Bucky grumbled.
Alpine’s tail hit him in the face again and Bucky huffed.
Bucky curled up on the bed, stroking Alpine.
“You’d probably like him. He has a cat, granted it’s a robot cat called cat. It’s a little dorky but adorable.” Bucky said.
Realization hit the assassin.
“I am gushing about a man that I met today to my cat, I have lost it.” He said.
Alpine carried on sleeping, because of course he did, he is a cat after all.
Bucky closed his eyes.
“Maybe I should see if he wants a cat play date.” Bucky mused.
He winced at the idea.
“That sounds stupid, forget I said anything. It’s not like you can tell anyone anything.” Bucky said, still talking to his sleeping cat.
Before Bucky could come up with anymore stupid ideas, Bucky decided to go to sleep and deal with it tomorrow.
