it was more than any laws allow

The dirt scatters as it hits the ground behind Eddie.

“I’m coming, darling,” Eddie pants. “Just-” The shovel once again connects with the dirt, digs in. “Just a few moments more.”

The shovel finally–blessedly–hits the wood of your casket. With a bit of effort, he lifts the lid, face to face with you once more.

He sighs, smiles. “My love.”

Gently, he crawls inside, lays next to you, his fingers trailing along the side of your face.

“Please come home, darling. It’s been long enough without you.” Eddie sighs, lets his head resting against your shoulder. “I’ve suffered enough.”

If anyone were interested, and wandered down to the cemetery to look, they would find Eddie cradling a skeleton.

It wouldn’t shock a soul, I’d say.
