Chapter 4

A loud thud disturbed Loki’s sleep. He groaned and tried to capture the fleeting dream.

“Pivot!” A loud voice guffawed.

If it were just him, he wouldn’t do anything, but Hel and Sleipnir were whimpering in their sleep. He didn’t want them to wake up any earlier than they had to.

Last night, they'd curled together on the lumpy futon like baby dragons.

Zali and Narfi fell asleep first.

Sleipnir had joined them next nuzzling into Loki's neck.

Hel had climbed on top of him and fallen asleep in seconds.

Surrounded by his kids, Loki had completely relaxed and found himself sound asleep.

Fenrir and Jo must have covered everyone with blankets before climbing in too.

Loki didn't want to disturb their rest.

They needed as much sleep as they could get.

Booming laughter made him see red. He carefully got up and opened the door. “Would you shut up? My kids are sleeping?” He hissed.

Two men juggling a leather couch had the decency to look guilty.

“We’re so sorry!” One of them exclaimed. He was definitely the loud one.

“Yeah, we’re just helping our friend move in, but we should have been more considerate,” the other said.

Loki sighed. “It’s fine. Just please keep it down.”

“Of course.”

Loki turned back into his apartment and checked the time. If he didn't hurry, he'd be late for work. He needed to make sure the kids would have something to eat.

There was leftover spaghetti, but they’d have to eat it cold.

He knew they hated sandwiches, but it was fast and easy. He took a quick, cold shower saving the warm water for his babies. Finally, he had a moment to breathe. Picking up Sleipnir and slipping into his bedroom, he gave that moment to his son.

The baby purred at the closeness.

Loki’s heart constricted. “I’m sorry life is like this. I miss you every second, and I love you to the stars.” Kissing his baby’s soft head, he wished that he could stay.
