Chapter 2
Loki almost wished that it wasn't summer break.
At least then, Fenrir, Jo, and Hel could be in school.
But then, he'd have to worry about the twins and Sleipnir. They were too young to be home alone...
But so were, Fenrir, Jo, and Hel.
Fenrir had grown up too fast. He was much too responsible.
All Loki wanted was for him to be a silly, mischievous kid.
Jo was extremely shy. He always followed his siblings' lead.
Loki wanted him to be fearless and excited for life.
Hel was scared of everything.
If Loki could wrap Hel in a blanket of protection for the rest of her life, he would.
Vali and Narfi were clingy to each other, to their siblings, to him. They hated being alone.
Loki just wanted them to be happy and childlike just a little longer.
Sleipnir had no idea how hard their life was, but he would learn.
He'd give anything for Sleipnir to never know how hard life could get. Loki hated himself for screwing up his kids. He loved them so much, and he tried so hard. But it was never enough. He worked three jobs, barely got any sleep, and did everything he could to keep his kids safe and happy. He'd give them anything and everything if he could. His life might've been different if his parents hadn't kicked him out when he was pregnant with Fenrir. He'd been a sophomore in college who'd made the mistake of going to a frat party. After that, he'd been forced to drop out and find dead-end jobs. Raising Fenrir on his own had been terrifying, but it just got harder when Loki fell for Jo's dad. He thought that they'd finally caught a break, but he'd been so wrong.
Hel had been the worst.
He loved her more than life itself, but he wished she came into their lives more gently. With three kids, he'd grown even more desperate, so he'd started selling the only thing he had left.
But that resulted in the twins and Sleipnir.
Now, he was trying to do right by his kids by working himself to death. He wouldn't sell himself again, so he was bartending at the club. But bartending didn't make enough, so he also worked at a gas station and a supermarket. He didn't have time for friends or dating all the time he had left was for his kids. He knew people looked down on him and his kids, but he wouldn't change anything.
Even with the pain and heartbreak, his kids were the best part of his life.
