Chapter 4
* A month later *
You come back home from a busy day of work at the compound and find Yelena on the couch playing Call of Duty. When she notices you she asks you how work was and asked you if you wanted to join her once you answered. After about a week of you moving in Natasha asked Yelena to move in permanently too. She liked having her sister so close. So now the three of you, occasionally joined by Wanda shared the house.
“Nat said she’s staying with Wanda tonight, want to order some food?” you ask while Yelena finishes her battle. The two of you decide on pizza.
“Ha” Yelena says excitedly as the screen read Winner. She hands you a controller and starts a new game. You’ve been playing together quite a bit, the two of you made a great team and rarely ever lose the game. In general you and Yelena had been spending a lot of time together, getting to know each other more and more every day.
After a couple good games you both went your separate ways for the night.
In the middle of the night, you wake up from a loud scream, which seems to be coming from Yelena’s room. You decide to go investigate, her door was closed so you knocked and asked if you could come in. When all you heard as a response was soft crying, you opened the door.
Yelena was wiping her tears away when you walked into her room. “Hey, is everything alright?” you ask as you sit on the foot end of her bed, not wanting to intrude her space too much. She nods and says “yeah, just a nightmare I guess.” It stays silent for a bit, so you decide to get up and back to your own room “I guess I better get back then, I’m right next door if you need anything.”
“Actually” Yelena starts looking a bit uncertain. You turn around to look at her, reassuring her that it’s okay. “Do you mind staying?” she continues. You nod and sit back down on the bed. “My nightmare… I was back at the Red Room, at the graduation ceremony to be exact.” Yelena shared with a tear falling rolling down her cheek. You move over to where she’s sitting to pull her into a hug.
“I’m sorry you had to experience that again Lena. Nat always liked when I would tell random stories to distract her from her nightmares, I can tell you one if you want? Maybe it will distract you too, so you can go back to sleep. I can stay the night here too if that would make you feel safer?”
Yelena thought for a moment before saying she would like to try both, so you move over to the other side of the bed and start telling her the story of how you ended up working at the compound. The blonde started to relax more and more during your story until she eventually fell back asleep. Once you were sure she was asleep, you closed your eyes as well.
A couple hours later you wake up again, feeling Yelena tossing and turning in her sleep. “Lena, hey, wake up” you say “you’re okay, it’s just another nightmare” shaking her softly. At the touch she shoots awake. “it’s just me. It’s y/n, everything is alright. I’ve got you.”
Yelena relaxes at the sound of your voice and lays back down on the bed, putting her head on your shoulder. “Is this okay?” she whispers. You wrap your arm around her, while softly stroking relaxing patterns on her back, “of course.” Shortly after the blonde falls back asleep once again.
The next time you wake up is from Yelena’s alarm. Meaning it’s 7:30 am and the both of you have to get ready for work. You wake up a bit confused of your surroundings but soon realise it’s Yelena’s room. The alarm keeps on going, so you look over to your left to nudge Yelena. Only to not find her in the bed anymore. You turn her alarm of and get out of bed, making your way into the kitchen to go look for her after her rough night.
When you walk into the kitchen, you see Yelena making you both breakfast. She looks up when she hears you enter. “Good morning, I hope I didn’t wake you. I wanted to make you some breakfast to thank you for last night.”
“No need to thank me, I will always be here for you.” You say while sitting down at one of the set places at the table. After breakfast Yelena drives the both of you to the compound, where you both head to your separate departments.
During work all you can think about is Yelena, so when it’s time for your lunch break you head over to the shooting range, to go look for her. Sure enough Yelena is testing out one of your latest works. You wait until she finishes her rounds to walk up to her. “Hey Yelena, how are you enjoying the new gun?”
“You did it again, y/n. This thing is amazing” Yelena says while holding up the gun to admire it.
“Thank you, I’m glad” you say before you look down at the group, remembering why you came over here. “Hey, so I was wondering if maybe you wanted to grab dinner at that restaurant we went to last month and maybe dance to some of the songs, if you’d like.”
Yelena studies your face for a bit before asking “like a date?” you look up at her and nod your head “yeah, like a date.” Yelena smiles at you “Sounds great, how about tonight?”

When you’re both done with your food, Yelena stands up and asks you to dance with her while holding out her hand. Hand in hand you walk over to the dance floor and sway to the music. After a couple upbeat songs, the band announces that the next couple songs will be slow ones.
When the first slow song starts, you move closer to Yelena. You put your arms around her neck and she rests hers just above your hips, just like last time. After the first song Yelena puts her head on your shoulder. A couple other songs play while the two of you are slow dancing, until the song you danced to last month comes on.
Yelena lifts her head off of your shoulders to look into your eyes, clearly also noticing it was the same song. You smile at her before slowly leaning in to kiss her. She returns you32r smile and closes the distance.
