A Planet to Call Home
"Have you given any thought to my proposal?" Loki asked Ophelia as they sat in their room reading at the Avenger's compound. Ophelia looked up from her book and raised an eyebrow at him.
"Which one?" She asked and Loki grinned.
"The Asgard one."
"Oh you mean the one where you asked me to uproot my life and move to a space kingdom with you?"
"That one." Loki said looking back to his book, his smirk gone. After Jane and Thor's wedding Loki had brought up the idea of him and Ophelia settling down in Asgard. He was needed there now more than ever. With Thor married and with a child on the way he would have to pick up the royal slack. He was given more responsibilities and although grateful he was for the rare opportunity to gain favor from his father, he worried for Ophelia.
"I can't leave Wanda. She already lost one sibling." Ophelia looked back to her book and turned the page. Loki's hand caught hers as she begun to place her hand back in her lap. She looked up at him.
"She won't loose you. She can come visit whenever she likes, she can even bring the droid."
"His name is Vision." Ophelia said taking her away.
"Whatever he is, he's welcome. I would be understanding to whichever decision you make but I know if you stayed on Midgard I would be gone a lot. It would be easier on the both of us if you would come to Asgard. I promise it won't be forever. Just until Thor's spawn is old enough to sit upon the throne."
"That is a very long time. I will probably be long gone by the time Thor's child comes of age." Ophelia said and Loki put his book down and stood up abruptly.
"Have you not considered my other proposal? It has been weeks since we last spoke of it." Loki ran his hands through his hair and sighed. After he had expressed his want to marry Ophelia when she was half asleep she hadn't said anything about it. Ophelia did hear him when he initially said it but she never confessed that she had. She was scared he was only saying it after experiencing the bliss of his brother's wedding. So she kept it to herself. And when he brought it up again a few weeks later she brushed it off and said they had plenty of time to consider the idea of marriage. But now that Loki was needed in Asgard more permanently the subject had been brought up yet again.
"I have considered it."
"And?" Loki asked with anticipation.
"I do want that for us. I just worry about how long our union would last." Ophelia said feeling the pain in her voice.
"What do you mean?" Loki asked now sitting beside her.
"I love you. And I know that you love me. But is that enough? What I mean is; I will not live as long as you. I may have magic but I do not hold the long life inside me that you hold. My life will end before yours even reaches an age of old. Doesn't that bother you?" Ophelia felt tears pooling in her eyes. She knew when Loki revealed himself to her that her mortality would eventually cause issue between them. But she didn't consider it would occur so soon. Loki moved closer to her and placed his hands on either side of her face and kissed her. He pulled away and wiped her tears from her cheeks.
"We will never be parted. Do you not believe my father would not grant you the same blessing that was granted to Jane?"
"I just thought that the way your relationship is with your father he might not allow me such a blessing. I have no claim to it either. Jane is a scientist and she helped save the world on more than one occasion. I am nobody."
"You are not nobody. You are my life. And regardless of my father's blessing; my mother would see to it that it is done. As long as you are aware and willing, it will be done." Loki said then pulled her into him. They held each other that way for some time. Just enjoying the warmth of one another.
"Do you promise we won't abandon Earth completely? That we will come home eventually? And not just to visit. I'm not done with Earth yet. I just started my life I feel like. I know Earth isn't your favorite planet but it is mine. I am willing to be with you on Asgard. But I need to know that when the time comes you will be willing to be with me on Earth." Ophelia said. She was excited to spend her time on Asgard. But she knew in her heart that she belonged on Earth.
"Earth may not be my ideal choice when it comes to dwellings. But... I have come to love those who you call family. And I would be most happy to live wherever you so choose. And if I am being completely honest, Earth isn't so bad compared to some of the places I have lived. I promise you, when the time is right, we will return." Loki said and he meant every word. There was a time where he would never consider living his days on Earth. But now, after all the growth he had endured, he realized he could call Earth home as well as Asgard.
