Chapter 2
Soft guitar music played from a small speaker stuck in the sand. Mobius listened, leaning up against the palm tree behind him. Loki laid in his arms, back resting on the agent's chest. The raven-haired man had a book of poems in his hands, and was reading aloud. Mobius found himself entranced by both the gentle baritone voice, and how Loki's long, delicate fingers turned the aged pages as he read.
Down a sandy hill, a beach lay untouched by man; the smooth stones glistening as the waves washed over again. The clear water slowly sculpted the rocks with it's force. Gulls called in the distance, but thanks to a few flashes of magic from pale, delicate hands, they kept a respectful distance.
"Mobi, are you listening?" The voice drew Mobius out of his daydreaming. He looked down to see the love of his life gazing up at him with inquisitive eyes. Gosh, those eyes… so bright and sharp, missing nothing. So green, it's like the color was invented in Loki's irises. Mobius smiled, leaning down. He planted a tender kiss on Loki's lips, the man stretching up subconsciously; like a flower greeting the morning sun.
When they pulled apart, Loki shot the former agent a cocky smirk, eyes sparkling gleefully. He laid back against Mobius' chest, closing his eyes. A summer breeze drifted over them, and as they laid on the picnic blanket with a bottle of wine and the small radio, both men felt the most content they had ever been.
Loki surprised Mobius by getting up suddenly. A light, energetic song had started playing, and the agent was pulled to his feet.
"What's up, pussycat?" Mobius asked, grinning. Loki grabbed the speaker in one hand and in the other, Mobius' hand. Loki led him down to the beach, sticking the speaker in the sand.
"Dance with me? Please?" Loki pleaded. How could Mobius say no to those eyes? Gosh, he was so smitten… in answer, Mobius pulled Loki close and spun him around. Loki's face lit up with delight, and they danced along to the music. The sand got in between their toes, and they occasionally stepped on a rock, but neither cared. All they saw was each other.
As they spun around, Loki's magic began to sparkle, emanating from him in emerald tendrils laced with gold. The wind whipped through their hair, and the music carried them as they danced together.
Lost in the moment, Loki didn't see a piece of driftwood and tripped on it, spinning backwards. Mobius lunged forward, grabbing Loki before he fell. As the adrenaline of almost falling left Loki, he put his arms around Mobius' neck, smiling. He leaned forward, kissing him gently. Mobius smiled into the kiss, and as they pulled away, they saw the remnant of Loki's magic floating in the air around them. They slowly sat down, as a slower song played. The pair watched the magic shimmer and flow like northern lights and Loki rested his head on Mobius' shoulder.
As the sun set on the horizon, lighting up the sea with golden light, the two made their way back up the hill. They gathered up the speaker, blanket, and book, returning to their apartment in the TVA. While the date had ended, the warm feeling it left would remain even as they returned to work the next day.
