Where am I?
You hear a weird beeping.
There it is again.
And again.
What is it?
You hear another beep.
Seriously, what is this? You open your eyes and look around you. At your left, you see some kind of dare with.. Are those medication? Seems so. You turn your head to the right and see a few cables and a monitor. Behind that is a door. Everything looks very clean. You look at your legs and realize that you're lying in a hospital bed. You have a tube sticking out of your right arm. You have no idea how you got here. What happened to you? Something must have happened, otherwise you wouldn't be in a hospital now. Still, something feels off but you can't put your finger on it. Probably it is nothing, at least you're in a hospital wich means that people are caring for you and nothing bad wil happen to you now. That's what hospitals are for. To help and save people.
You quickly turn your head towards the door as you hear it open. There's a doctor standing, he looks nice, he is about thirty or thirty-three years old from what you can tell. He smiles at you friendly and asks how you feel. That's a goof question. How are you? You let your mind wander through your whole body and check for any signs of severe damage. You wiggle your toes, your feet, your fingers and your hands. Everything seems to function. So that means you're fine, doesn't it?
"I am fine" is what you hear yourself saying. Apparently, your mouth decided to just speak before your mind could think any further. "That's very good to hear. I was afraid you would wake up and be hardly able to move your head!", the doctor says. "My name is doctor Conner and I will treat you until you're well enough again." Only one word in this sentence doesn't sit right with you: enough. Why would he say that? And didn't you just tell him that you're fine? Why can't he just check on you and let you go after that? But instead of saying what's on your mind, you just nod. Dr. Conner comes closer and sits down next to your bed, on a chair you hadn't even noticed earlier. He moves his hand as if he was grabbing something on his left, but there is only air and a bit further the monitors. He sighs as he sees that the dare is on the other side of your bed. Then, he stands up again and pushes the chair over to the other side of your bed and sits down again. You follow him with your eyes all the time.
Now, he grabs an injection from the dare and smiles at you once again while slowly drawing the injection closer to your belly. You start to feel very uncomfortable and shuffle under your sheets to cover up as much as snyhow possible so he won't be able to inject you. "What is that?", you ask but you don't receive a response.
He just continues to smile at you.
"Where am I?", you ask now. Finally, he stops looking at you and gives you an answer:"You are safe now"
What was that? Why doesn't he tell you in which hospital you are? Probably he didn't understand your question... "In which hospital am I?", is the next question you ask him. He seems not to hear you, so you speak a bit louder:"Where exactly are we now?" He looks in your eyes again and starts smiling again. What is happening here?! After a few seconds, he takes a breath as if he was about to speak but he remains silent. You look at him confused and try to figure out what is going on. As you feel the needle poke your skin, you say:"wait! I still have a question!". Surprisingly, he really stops and takes the injection away from your skin again.
"What is it?", he asks. "I'll try to give you the best answer possible." "Why am I here? What happened to me?" You try to remember anything, but nothing will come to your mind except for some kind of... a fight? A war? You don't know what exactl it is that happened, you only see a few blurred pictures in your head. You can see blood. A lot of blood. A scaring amount of blood. If it is from only one person, they are dead now, you are certain of it. If it is from multiple persons, they might have survived. Anyhow, that wouldn't be good either. You see six or seven small children screaming and trying to hide. Then the memory hits you: There was an attack on your home city.
He answers "There was a terrorist attack that escalated. We thought we couldn't control it any longer, but then the Avengers came and saved many innocent lives." He seems a bit unhappy about what he said. "Who is "we"?", you ask because you got even more suspicious when he talked about "controling" the attack. How could anyone control it? Maybe he is just a doctor who happens to.. be important for the city? No, then you would probably know him, at least from posters or interviews... Is he... Is it possible that he is a part of the terrorist organization? But that doesn't make any sense! He looks so friendly and why would he be nurturing you?
You don't really get what's happening and are in your thoughts as you suddenly feel the needle of the injection pinch your skin. you look at your arm and then look up in his face, disbelief in you eyes. Dr. Conner looks in you face as well and you believe to hear him mumble "I'm sorry", as you slowly black out.
As you wake up again, you find youself in a different room. Again, you look around you to see what is going on around you. This time, the room has a small window, but you can't see any handles so you probably won't be able to escape through that. You can see a tree outside. Well, at least the leaves. The upper end of the leaves. That means that you arae probably high up and an escape through the winddow would've benn impossible anyways. As you continue to take in the details of the room, you start to feel an itch at your nose. You want to reach your left hand up to scratch it, but you cant. You look down and groan. Your hands as well as your legs are bond to the bed! You pull at the handcuffs, but they won't move even a bit.
You sigh and try to relax a bit to make the hancuffs not be in such an uncomfortable angle, and it even works. So now your body is relaxed but your mind certainly is not. You can't help but wonder about what happened and let everything happen again in your head. As you think everything through, you realize that Doctor Conner said something you don't understand: "...the Avengers came and daved many innocent lives." Who or what are the Avengers? Why did he seem mad at them?
You don't really want to think about that, but your mind won't stop wondering about that. What else can you do in here anyways? That's right: nothing.
You reanalyze the situation: You have no idea where exactly you are but you're very certain that it isn't a real hospital. You are tied to a bed which means that you are barely able to move, you have no chance of escaping. You can't really remember anything, but you still know that being in a seedy hospital with a doctor who won't tell you anything is not a good situation to be in. Not good at all. Doctor Conner tolt you that someone called "the Avengers" came to a city to stop a terorist attack that was barely controllable. So they must be the good guys, right?
You don't really know much more than that. Maybe they will come to help you here too, when they are the good guys. But there are so many bad things in the world, probably they are too busy to come to the rescue of one person held hostage. But what if the Avengers won't come? How long are you going to be here? Are the people here going to kill you? Maybe they want to torture you... At least you're tied to a bed. You could do nothing about it.
Your head turns around to look at the door again as you hear it open. Doctor Conner is back.
"I have seen that you're awake again", he says. "You slept quite a long time, we were afraid, you wouldn't wake up at all anymore!" he laughs. Apparently he thinks that he just made a very good joke. "What did you do to me? What in fucks name have you done?", you ask angrily. "Why did you take me with you and not some other random civilian?" Now, Doctor Conner seems confused. Why is he confused? "You really don't remember anything, do you?", Doctor Conner asks now. You ask him:"No I do not. What happened and why are you keeping me here?"
The doc seems to think, then he nodds and asks you "Who are you? Tell me everything you know about yourself."
How is that going to help any of you? You don't want to answer but you know you are not in the position to do what you want or not do what you don't want. You mumble you name and where you are from, but he didn't understand you so he says "Say what you know about yourself!" You say your name and where ou were born loudly now. "All you know.", Dr. Conner says so you continue: "When I was seven, my family moved away from where we lived and since then my family has lived in Phoenix. I don't remember my age or if I have any siblings." You stop talking. You have told him everything you know. He seems surprised: "So you have no idea who you lived with for two years?", Michael asks. What does he mean by that? "With my parents... haven't I?", you answer.
Michael perks up one eyebrow. "No, you lived with the Avengers. You have been at the compound for two years before you went to visit your parents in Phoenix when we attacked." You can't wrap your brain around the fact that you are supposed to have lived with people you don't even remember. You have had enough. That's already the second time Michael talks about the Avengers, they seem to be important. "What are 'The Avengers'?", you ask now. Now, Dr. Conner seems almost happy. Why? Why would he be happy about you not knowing anything?
"The Avengers are a group of people who are called heroes by everyone because they prevent "bad things" from happening. You have lived with them and worked with them for some time, but now, we've got you and precious Natasha is not going to help you.", Dr. Conner eplains.
Who is Natasha? Why would she help you? You have so many questions but you can't ask them all at once. You start with: "Why am I tied to a bed?" "Aahh, yes. You're strong, do you know that? SO we had to make some precautions to make sure you won't knock anyone out. Safety first!", he says with a mild smile.
