Jesus fucking Christ. Bucky was just trying to enjoy his night. He hung his head low in defeat, staring at the glowing eyes in his backyard. Sam had gone through all this trouble to make a romantic dinner and another villain had to ruin it. Seriously, he had made chicken parmesan and he lit candles. Fucking candles.
“Sam, there’s something out there,” He said, thoroughly frustrated.
“What?” Sam turned in his chair to where Bucky was looking through the glass door. “Oh, shit,” He saw it too.
The glowing fucking eyes outside. Low to the ground, like he was crouching or some shit. Bucky stood up, ready to fight this thing. Sam did the same, walking to the door to open it. He looked back at Bucky, who nodded, before yanking the door open.
And a white cat strolled inside like it owned the place.
“What. The fuck,” Bucky said more than asked.
“Huh. Guess he wasn’t as scary as we thought, huh?”
“Did you just say “huh” twice in one sentence?”
“Yes, get over it,” Sam said as he shut the door. Bucky knelt down and scratched between the cat’s ears.
“Do you wanna keep him?” He asked, already growing attached to the animal.
“Hold on, how do you know it’s a him?” Sam asked, joining Bucky on the floor.
“Well, it’s better than calling him “it”, right?” Bucky asked. Sam said nothing and picked the cat up, showing its belly.
“Well, it’s definitely a him,” Sam concluded, earning an eye roll from Bucky.
“What should we name him?” Bucky asked after a moment of silence between them as the cat paced back and forth between them.
“He’s very white, maybe something wintery?” Sam suggested. Bucky nodded, thinking.
“Frost? Ice?” He asked. Sam chuckled.
“Those are so basic, Buck. What about Alpine?”
Bucky thought it over for a moment before nodding.
“Alpine it is,”
