“I know you will not be happy to see me,” Eddie begins, eager to cut your dismissal off at the pass.
You sigh, drop your book.
There’s the hint of a smile playing on your features, and it nearly throws Eddie off entirely.
You shrug, the slight movement of one shoulder. “I wouldn’t be so sure.”
Eddie quirks a brow, carefully planned out speech suddenly forgotten.
“What've you come to tell me, then?”
Eddie nods, gathers his nerve. “You have bewitched me, my love.” He reaches out, takes your hands. “Body and soul, and I love you.” He chuckles. “More than I would have believed I could love another.” He takes a deep breath before he continues. “And, should you wish to chance it, I am convinced we could have a beautiful life.”
He brings your hands to his lips, presses the softest kiss there, and waits for your answer.
