Clover sighed, pushing her light green hair behind her ear. She was bored. Being about 3000 years can do that to a person. She had trained so many pupils, yet none of them felt like they were worth putting in the effort. Maybe there never will be one like that. Just then, a young man walked in, with a woman following behind him. The woman had short black hair that stopped just below her neck, and fair skin. She had black clothes that were obviously once of exquisite quality, but now they were in tatters. Clover gazed with an uninterested look. The man spoke, "Ancient One, this girl sat outside the gates of Kamar Taj and refused to leave. A storm is brewing on the outside, and we had no choice but to bring her in." Clover's eyebrows quirked up a bit. She knew of the girl. She had used the Eye of Agammoto to see the future, up till her death, and every time she viewed it, this girl had never gained entry into Kamar Taj. There was not supposed to be a storm today. Interesting....this girl had somehow defied time. She flicked her eyes to the man, and said, "Let her stay till the storm passes. And make sure that she is treated respectably, and is comfortable." The man nodded, "As you command, Ancient One" The woman glared at the man when he tried to guide her out. "I want to talk to her" The man frowned, "The Ancient One will talk to you if she deems it necessary. You do not get to demand an audience with her. This is not like your kingdom, where whatever you ask is done. We are not your subjects." Clover smirked. She said, "Leave us be. This girl interests me" The man looked back at her, and nodded, leaving the room. Clover gestured for the woman to take a seat, and watched as she sat down. The woman started to speak, "My name is-" "I know who you are, Yao. I also know that you are the princess of a kingdom not far from here, whose king, your father, has been killed in coup de 'at." The woman's-Yao's-eyes widened in shock. "How?" Clover smirked. It was always fun to mess with the newbs. "I know everything. Question is, what do you want to know?" Yao stared, and Clover stared back, not backing down. Finally, Yao replied, "If you know everything, then shouldn't you know what I want to know?" Clover blinked. Then she began to laugh. "You are quite the interesting one, Yao" she said, calming down. Yao wore a look of confusion on her face. Clover smiled. "Very well. You can stay here, and train. Isn't that what you wanted?" Yao blinked, surprised, and nodded. Clover watched her leave the room, a smile on her face. It looked like the next few years were going to be very interesting.
And she was right! As she always was. Yao was not a prodigy. If anything, she struggled with even the most basic of the mystic arts. But she had conviction, and the determination to surpass any and all hurdles in her way. She trained day and night to the point of exhaustion, and then some. Bit by bit, she mastered the basics. Then, she got stuck. The students were being taught to tear a hole in the fabric of the universe, allowing instant transportation, with the help of the rings. Clover liked to call the method of travel, 'Ringing'. Not the most original of names, but all her creativity had been drained by the time she thought of it. Another drawback of being so Ancient, she supposed. Yet...she had the perfect idea to help Yao. She called Yao to her, walking along the courtyard, making sure no one was around. Then, once Yao was near her, she 'ringed' to Mt.Everest. Specifically, the tallest peak. She dragged Yao with her, depositing her on the ground, and gave her the ring. "Use this to make a way back to Kamar Taj, or you can turn into an icicle up here. It's up to you." She walked back to the other side of the hole, when Yao shouted, "Wait! I haven't been able to create a single spark, how do you expect me to make a way back?!" Clover looked at her impassively. "The first thing you need to learn with the mystic arts, Yao, is that there is truly nothing that is impossible. As long as you have the will and determination, that is" she said, closing the 'ring'
Clover smiled. Today was the day. Every time she viewed through the Eye Of Agamotto, it ended on this day. And she knew why now. It was time to pass on the title of Sorcerer Supreme to someone else. It was a pity, she had hoped that she would be able to see Yao grow, get her own pupil, maybe even a successor. But fate would not allow it. But she had faith that Yao would prove to be every bit the Sorcerer Supreme Clover was. Maybe even more so. At least she died in battle. Doing what she had always wanted to do, but had forgotten along the way. She was thankful to Yao, for reminding her of why she had started this journey. To protect. To safeguard this universe that was so beautiful, so full of life. And now, it was Yao's turn. The only other regret Clover had was not being able to tell Yao her real name. Not because she didn't want to, but rather she had forgotten her actual name over the years. Now, she was only Clover. The Ancient One. The Sorcerer Supreme. But no more. Now, she could rest.
Finally, she could rest, knowing that reality was in safe hands with Yao. She just hoped Yao never made the same mistakes she had.
