Chapter 2

“Okay so let’s me get this straight-” Sam said as they got out of the truck.

“That’s funny coming from you,” Bucky said sarcastically.

“Anyway,” Sam said with a glare, Bucky smirking slightly. “I finish up my mini mission as Captain America, we finally get some free time alone, and now this.”

“I thought you’d wanna help out Sarah and the boys,” Bucky said.

“I do but I wanna not pass out next to you from exhaustion after this is all over. I want an actual, normal date for once. All of our dates keep getting interrupted or end with us being kidnapped or shot at,” Sam whined. “Plus I’m exhausted. I just want a normal day.”

“Normal is overrated,” Bucky said as he grabbed Sam’s hand. “You’ll be fine, stupid.”

“I need coffee before we do anything,” Sam said as he went into the house.

Bucky smiled before AJ ran over to him.

“Uncle Bucky!” AJ yelled with a smile.

“Hey. How’s it going?” Bucky asked.

“I played hide and seek with Cass earlier and I lost him but then I found him. He was hiding in a tree. And my teacher at school said that her favorite color is yellow.”

“Yellows a cool color I guess,” Bucky said awkwardly.

“Where’s Uncle Sam?” AJ asked.

“Inside wishing he was dead,” Bucky said as he rubbed his eyes.

“Why?” AJ asked as he tilted his head in confusion.

“Because he’s sleep deprived,” Bucky said.

“Oh. He should get some sleep,” AJ said.

“I told him to get some sleep but he never listens to me,” Bucky said.

“He listens to mom though,” AJ said.

“Because your mom is scarier than I am,” Bucky said with a smile.

“She is,” AJ whispered, Bucky snickering.

——

“You good?” Bucky asked with a laugh as he looked at Sam.

“Sore beyond sore,” Sam said as he collapsed on the couch.

“You look like you went ten rounds with Hydra or something,” Bucky joked.

“At least Hydra soldiers can be killed. This is fixing a boat. I kinda can’t destroy it,” Sam said.

“You’ll be okay,” Bucky said sarcastically before he felt Sam wrap his arms around his waist and pull him onto the couch.

“Finally some time alone,” Sam said tiredly with a smile as he rested his chin on Bucky’s shoulder.

“Uncle Sam,” Cass said as he came into the room.

Sam groaned in annoyance, which caused Bucky to start snickering.

“Yeah, Cass?” Sam asked as he dug his head into Bucky’s shoulder.

“I just wanted to say goodnight,” Cass said awkwardly.

“Goodnight,” Sam said as he lifted his head up.

“Goodnight Uncle Sam and Uncle Bucky!” AJ yelled as he ran into the house.

“Damn, he has some lungs on him,” Sam said as he rubbed his eyes.

“You can have him,” Sarah said sarcastically as she walked into the other room.

“No thanks. I’m good,” Sam called out, Bucky snickering.

“Goodnight, uncle Bucky,” Cass said before he walked up the stairs.

“I didn’t realize how dark it was,” Bucky said as he glanced out the window.

“Yeah, it gets pretty dark around here,” Sam said before he froze.

Sam quickly got up off the couch and grabbed Bucky’s hand. He dragged him out of the house and towards the woods.

“Are you planning on murdering me in the woods for eating the last cookie?” Bucky asked as he got pulled into the forest by the house.

“You what?” Sam asked as he halted to a stop.

“What? I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m still delirious from being the Winter Soldier,” Bucky said awkwardly.

“Whatever, I can make more cookies. Come on,” Sam said as he continued pulling Bucky farther into the woods.

“Why are you dragging me further and further into the woods? I’m actually worried your sanity is leaving your body,” Bucky said.

Sam stopped and covered Bucky’s eyes.

“Okay, you’re losing your mind,” Bucky said.

“Relax. I have something to show you,” Sam said as they slowly started walking again.

“Sex in the woods isn’t my thing, Sam,” Bucky said.

“Oh my god. No, dumbass,” Sam said with a glare. “I just wanna show you something cool.”

“What is it?” Bucky asked.

“Open your eyes,” Sam said as he slowly moved his hands away from Bucky’s face.

Bucky let his eyes adjust and froze.

“Fireflies,” Bucky said with a smile as he looked around, seeing the entire area filled with little specks of light.

“Yeah,” Sam said with a smile.

“Cool,” Bucky said with a smile. “So does this count as our first or fifteenth date?”

“Fifteen? It can’t be that many times that we’ve been interrupted,” Sam said.

“You get called away as Cap a lot more than you realize,” Bucky said as he stared at the fireflies floating around the area.

“This is our first date then,” Sam said as he sat down on the ground, Bucky sitting next to him. “Love you.”

“Love you more,” Bucky said.

Sam smiled and rolled his eyes. He went to lean in to kiss Bucky but heard his phone go off. Sam groaned while Bucky started laughing.

“I’m ignoring it,” Sam said as he turned the ringer off.

“You know, there’s an easy solution to not getting phone calls,” Bucky said.

“Which is?” Sam asked.

“Turn off your phone,” Bucky said.

“I’m tempted to throw it in the river,” Sam said, Bucky snickering.

“This is relaxing,” Bucky said as Sam leaned against him.

“Yeah. It is,” Sam said quietly before getting startled by a spider crawling up his arm.

Sam quickly jumped in the air and tripped into the lake in front of them. Bucky laughed as Sam stood up with a glare.

“You good, Cap?” Bucky joked with a laugh, seeing Sam now soaking wet.

“We’re cursed,” Sam said.

“We’re not cursed. Our dates just get…interesting,” Bucky said with a smile as he helped Sam out of the lake. “You okay?”

“I’m cold,” Sam said before Bucky handed him his jacket. “And they say chivalry’s dead.”

“Love you, dufus,” Bucky said.

“Love you,” Sam said with a smile.
