Alice in Wonderland
The plane ride went smoothly. The weather was clear and they didn’t hit any major turbulence. To soothe her nerves, the pilot gave Eudora a preflight tour of the whole aircraft—showing her the cockpit and even letting her sit in the pilot’s chair.
After a seemingly short flight, the plane began to make its descent. Once they were below the clouds, Eudora was able to see what she guessed was her new school. A big grey building surrounded by green grass, gardens, and many trees.
“You can almost see it from here,” Dr. Liberty said, noticing Eudora looking intently out the window.
The plane taxied down the runway and eventually came to a stop. Most of the guards got out first. They began to form a line on either side from the plane doors to a shiny black car. After they finished marching into their positions, Eudora and Dr. Liberty walked past the aisles of seats and climbed down the steep steps to the runway. The air was cool and fresh, unlike the dusty old attic Eudora was used to. Even though she only needed to walk a few yards to the car, it was enough to turn her stomach with anxiety and excitement.
After another short drive, they arrived at the Reyes Foundation. Up close she could see the building was made of thick stone blocks and covered in ivy. There were bushes of roses in all different colors, a small fountain with a naked cherub(that looked like it had been broken and glued back together hundreds of times), and an oak tree with a tire swing. She couldn’t wait to try that out.
They walked up wide marble steps to a big archway with intricate carvings into the stone. Through the arch was a vestibule with a stained glass roof and tall double doors. Through the doors was a large room with marble floors, high ceilings, and many staircases. The staircases wrapped around the room on both sides and at the top was an overlook. To the left and right of the room were more big arches that led to more big rooms.
Eudora felt like Alice in Wonderland after taking the potion to make her small.
“You may find it difficult to know your way at first but don’t worry. I’m sure you can manage.” said a man emerging from the archway on the right. His voice echoed, making him sound closer than he really was. She turned to see him walking towards them, into the light of the crystal chandelier.
