A Good ''New''

September 10th

Friday

Once Bruce left the room he felt a hand clap onto his shoulder

“You wanna head to the labs and study together? Ya know since we have like an hour until dinner and why study alone when you can study with a friend”

“Friend-” Bruce blurted

Well, friend is a wide term he couldn´t actually mean it like that. Maybe it was a slip of the words

“Yea friend. Anyways let’s go science kid”

As Tony led Bruce down the hall, Bruce shook his head. He didn't mean it like that. They had only just met. How can you call someone a friend if you've only just met them?

“Do you do more than just biology?¨ Tony asked

“Yea,”

“Good”

As they entered the labs there were various other students working on stuff. A lot busier than yesterday. Which made sense. Most students would wait until the first day of school to actually start “working”.

Tony pulled him over to the station he was working at yesterday and grabbed out what Bruce assumed was his materials and the thing he was working on yesterday. Which appeared to be some toaster-looking thing.

Bruce automatically picked up the toaster and started examining it. It looked pretty basic on the inside. Just your normal toaster. It just didn’t have a power source yet.

“So im working on creating a power source for it” Tony explained to Bruce, “Normally it would be pretty simple. Just base it off a regular toaster which wouldn’t be too hard.” Which was true. Depending on how many times you’ve taken apart a toaster (which Bruce has done many a times).

“So what’s the problem?”

“Well I want it to have its own self sustaining power source. No plug or batteries but something that’ll last.” He continued placing more stuff down

“And you want my help?” Bruce reasoned

“Yeah. Two minds better than one”

Bruce shrugged. He didn't really mind.

As they started working there became an apparent pattern. Tony would find some kind of conductor. They would test out several variations that might work. And then all over again when it didn't work. It was comfortable.

Bruce found himself smiling as they worked. There was light banter between them. And it really was much nicer than working alone, he found.

And before he knew it other kids started leaving and it was dinner time.

Cleaning up the work area they left for the cafeteria.

“So why are you making a toaster?” Bruce asked

“For my room obviously. Why else? Besides they never said food in your dorm wasn’t aloud” Tony stated as if it were obvious

“Okay… but where are you going to get the food to toast from?”

There was a slight pause before Tony answered, “We’ll figure it out when we get to that point”

As Bruce and Tony parted Bruce unlocked his room and motioned to close the door when Thor re-opened.

“Hello Bruce” Thor smiled

“Hey Thor”

Sitting onto his bed Bruce slipped off his shoes. He would change later, he had time.

“How did your day go?” Thor asked grabbing out a laptop

“Alright. There were some unexpected turns but that’s normal for any day”

“Yes, it was interesting to see you at the club”

Bruce thought back to the club. It was definitely interesting. And not how Bruce thought it would go.

“It doesn’t really seem like your kind of thing so that was a bit surprising,” Bruce paused, thinking of what to say next, “But um, thanks for backing up my idea”

“No problem. It was a good idea and we really needed one”

The room was filled with a comfortable silence after that.

Bruce wasn’t used to that kind of silence.
