Chapter 13
“Remember, your mission is to not let any of those bastards get away. We will wait for your signal then we will attack on the other locations.” Fury says and then disconnects the call.
“So how are we doing this?” Clint asks from Pilot’s seat.
Everybody looks unsure.
Not that anymore can blame them…
This is one of the biggest missions in this century. If they succeed Hydra will be only painful memory. But if they fail…
Carol looks around and her eyes land on The Colonel.
He also looks unsure of what to do, but when his eyes meet hers, a look of understanding crosses his face, and he nods at her.
Carol signs and runs a hand through her hair
“Okay, everybody listen up. Me, Friday, Vision and War Machine will attack head on. We will bait them out so Hawkeye, Wasp and Little Spider-”
“Hey!”
“-Can safely get inside and plant the bombs. The bombs are on a timer. So, quickly move in, look for out missing Genius and get out. Fury’s forces will keep a look out, and if necessary… shoot everything that tries to escape down.”
Everybody nods in agreement with the plan, expect Friday who is looking outside the window with narrowed eyes
Carol nudges her gently “You okay?”
“He is here…”
“Who? Tony?” Rhodey asks with hopeful voice
Friday shakes her head slowly “No… MODOK”
Viper carefully watches as Stark screams inside the Chair.
She is more then pleased with this development. Stark finally stoping resisting. Soon, Hydra will have it’s new Asset. One far more powerful then even Winter Soldier.
He will become… Superior
BOOM
A loud explosion and shake of the room throws Viper down to the ground.
“What’s happening?!” She yells over comms link but she hears only static.
She looks towards Stark. That explosion did something to the power generators and Stark passed out.
Dammit…
“Viper, we have a problem.” MODOK’s voice comes from Viper’s comms device that is now glowing purple.
“MODOK, what’s happening out there?”
“Rhodes, Danvers, Vision and that girl in Stark’s armor are outside. They are tearing apart your soldiers and my robots.”
Viper signs “How the hell did they even found us?”
“I don’t know! But, there is more… Every single one of our bases is under attack.”
Viper’s eyes go wide in shock before realization hits her “Fury… How long till they get inside?”
Another explosion goes off…
“Minutes. I’m sending out The Adaptoid. You secure Stark.”
Outside, Vision shoots down some drones and then flies above War Machine who just destroyed another hydra tank.
Friday is close behind them destroying the last Hydra Watchtower.
Carol is flying behind Friday, she spots some group of MODOK’s robots and slams into the ground, crating small shockwave and throwing them of their feet. Friday quickly turns mid air and starts destroying them alongside Carol.
Carol is about to fly up into the air when an energy beam hits her sending her flying into the nearby wall.
They all turn to look at the direction the beam came from, and see a large metallic robot with one glowing purple eye.
Hawkeye is running inside a dark hallway while Wasp, in her smaller form, is flying beside him.
Above them, Spider-Man is crawling on the ceiling, easily keeping up with them.
They fight some Hydra Soldiers on their way and defeat them without much of an trouble.
As they are running, they are planting the bombs on the walls.
They reach a large room and in it is MODOK, waiting for them.
The gem on his forehead head glowing dangerously purple.
“Guys, we might need a little help.” Wasp mumbles into the comms
Rhodey lands on the ground and coughs “Yeah… We might need it to.”
The Adaptoid is powering up his eye beam but Carol pushes him back. Vision slams on top of him from the sky and grabs him by the neck before slamming him thought the wall.
Friday lands next to Rhodey, helping him up.
“Fri, Team B has problem. Go help them out, we will destroy this stupid Terminator”
Friday nods and flies inside the base.
Spider-Man and Hawkeye jump out of the way as MODOK shoots energy beam at them from his forehead.
Wasp flies towards MODOK and fires her stingers at him, making him cringe.
“Insects!” He hisses and Spider-Man lands at the wall in front of him.
“Technically, Spiders are arachnids” he says while holding his finger up.
MODOK stares at him in anger and disbelief.
He roars and shoots another beam, only for Spider-Man to dodge again. Clint fires two explosive arrows at MODOK and he growls in pain.
He is about to shoot at Clint, but Friday comes flying from behind the archer, firing both of her repulsors and landing in Iron Man’s iconic pose that makes Clint’s lips twitch.
She turns to him and point finger at the doors behind them. Clint nods and runs away and Friday turns her attention back to MODOK.
Beside her jumps Spidey and Wasp regrows to her full sizes. They all stare at each other before MODOK roars in anger and moves in for an attack.
Clint is running through the hallways. He can hear in the distance the fight against MODOK and explosions from outside.
He stops when he notices some doors and above them sign “Torture Chamber”
“What kind of idiots are these Hydra assholes?” He thinks to himself as he opens the doors and steps inside the dark creepy room.
There is blood everywhere and the only source of the light is directed on an ugly chair that looks like it’s straight out of a horror movie.
Clint moves closer and his eyes widen as he finally sees the man inside the chair… Tony Stark.
Tony’s eyes are only slightly opened, but unfocused. It is hard to tell he is even breathing. His body is covered in sweat, burns, dried blood and fresh blood.
Clint frowns and quickly moves to his side “Tony? Can you here me?”
He tries to gently shake him by arm, but there was no reaction.
“God… what did they do to you?” Clint whispers
As expected, Tony doesn’t react. He doesn’t even blink.
“Don’t worry buddy… We are getting you out of here.” Clint says as he starts to unstrap Tony from the chair
“He isn’t going anywhere”
Clint sharply turns and sees Viper with a staff. She is smirking at him like a shark.
“And neither are you”
Clint doesn’t waste any more time and charges at her.
“Guys! I’m starting to think this guy is to much for us!” Spidey yells as he swings on his web dodging another blast.
“We don’t need defeat him! We just need to make sure he is inside when the bombs go out” Wasp says while blasting another stings at MODOK who is now firing at Friday.
They all stop dead in their tracks, as from the wall behind MODOK comes crushing down Vision.
He lands on the rubble below him, but quickly stands up, analyzing the situation around him.
Vision doesn’t notice that The Adaptoid is following through the large hole in the wall. His beam already powered up, and ready to shoot at the disoriented Vision.
But before The Adaptoid can take the shot, he is tackled down from behind by Carol, who is now glowing even brighter as she is absorbing energy from Starkanium in her suit.
“Friday go find Clint! We have only 5 minutes left till this base blows up.” Rhodey commands as also flies through that hole and lands besides her.
Friday nods and flies in the direction Clint left while Vision charges at MODOK, but is pushed back by energy shield that MODOK created around himself.
“We need to destroy his shield and thrusters.” Rhodey mumbles into comms as he looks at MODOK who is again, shooting at Spider-Man
If you can keep him occupied and destroy this shield, I can get behind him and do it” Hope says while already flying behind MODOK in her small form.
Rhodey and Vision exchange a look and fire everything they got left in them at MODOK and his energy shield falls down.
Spider-Man quickly lands on the nearest wall and shoots his webs right at MODOK’s eyes, temporary blinding him.
Then, Hope grows to her full size and fires at MODOK’s thrusters, destroying them and sending him to the ground.
Viper and Clint are both breathing heavily.
They traded punch for a punch and kick for a kick.
They are evenly matched.
Clint moves in for another quick punch, but Viper was expecting this and quickly countered it with her own punch.
Clint scrambles back and Viper smirks as he wipes away the blood from his nose.
The truth is… Clint is getting tired. He is out of practice and youth is on Viper’s side. They both know it.
Viper is about to attack when she noticed that Clint is also smirking.
She turns behind, only to see Friday flying right at her. She doesn’t have any time to dodge ad Friday tackles her to the wall.
Clint takes this time and quickly moves to finish unstrapping Tony from the Chair.
He then carefully picks him up and throws him over his shoulder, trying to be as gentle as possible.
When Friday sees her Father at the Archer’s back she freezes and Viper takes this opportunity and manages to free herself from Friday’s grasp.
She quickly picks up the gun that was lying on the ground, hoping to shoot either Tony or Clint or both, but Friday doesn’t let her.
She in microseconds, powers up her repulsors to the maximum power and shoots Viper straight into the gut.
Viper drops to the ground, instantly dead and Friday quickly rushes to Clint and Tony.
“I got him” Clint assures her and she nods
“We need to go. We have only 3 minutes until this whole place goes into the air.”
“We found Boss” Friday reports over the comms aa Carol is punching The Adaptoid left and right.
As soon as she hears that Friday and Clint found Tony she becomes distracted and Adaptoid blasts his beam at her, sending her crushing into the rubble on the floor.
He is about to fire again, but Spider-Man swings by, wrapping the robot in his webs.
Vision quickly moves in, powering up the Mind Stone and releasing it’s power on the temporary restrained Adaptoid.
The Adaptoid starts to fall to his knees and Carol quickly joins The Vision, releasing her own power at him.
The Adaptoid slowly starts to melt and soon after is destroyed. Carol collapses to her own knees, releasing a breath of relief.
She looks to the side and sees War Machine and The Wasp, still fighting MODOK who is now immobilized to the ground.
She is about to join them and finish the big head for the good, but then the doors open and in rushes Friday followed by Clint who is carrying, now unconscious Tony on his back.
She flies up to them and before she can say anything Friday shouts “We need to go! This place will blow in less then one minute!”
Carol makes a quick eye contact with Clint who nods and carefully places Tony into her arms.
Friday then grabs Clint and flies away with Carol quickly following behind.
Vision copies them, and grabs Peter while Rhodey shoots hid Unibeam at MODOK sending him crashing to the wall.
He then opens his rocket lunchers and Hope shrinks and jumps inside of it.
They then also fly away while MODOK manages to turn to his side and see the countdown on the bomb nearby.
“NO!” he yells but it is to no avail.
The Base explodes behind the heroes and they quickly make their way toward their Quinjet.
Tony starts to move inside Carol’s arms during the flight and slowly opens his eyes.
Carol immediately feels nostalgic, remembering their first meeting.
She smiles at him, softly whispering “Hi there sleepyhead”
Tony’s lips twitch a little before he passes out again.
Carol takes this time to fully inspect his sleeping form.
His injuries seem to be already in process of healing, but Carol worries for his mental health.
They clearly tortured him for god knows how long, and from what she learned about him… He already has severe PTSD…
She also takes in his features. He might be covered in the blood from head to toes, but nobody can take from him that he is handsome.
“Handsome?!” Carol screams at herself in her mind and quickly shakes her head, focusing on safely delivering Tony to the Jet.
