Chapter 11
Clint Barton has many regrets…
The truth is… He didn’t join Cap’s side because he was against The Accords. He didn’t care about that, he didn’t even read them.
He joined because he got bored at home.
He was always man of action. Laura knew that when she married him. She was like him once, an Agent of SHIELD. The Mockingbird.
She loved the adrenaline in her veins on missions, and she warned him, that he wouldn’t be able to give that up like she did.
So, she expected him to get bored and eventually return to the Avengers.
What she didn’t expect, was that he would become international fugitive in process.
She was pissed, that he just went along with everything Steve said and didn’t ask any questions.
He regrets that to.
Steve isn’t good at lying and when confronted by someone face to face…
If Clint just asked then maybe… All of this could have been prevented…
On one hand he understands why Steve did what he did for Barnes.
If it was Natasha… he would probably do the same.
But that thing, about Tony’s Parents and then leaving behind him in Siberia… That crossed every line that exist in Clint’s book.
That’s why he didn’t even hesitate to take the deal UN gave them.
He wanted to go back to his family, apologize to his kids for breaking his promise, and he couldn’t look Steve into the eyes anymore.
So here he is now.
A former Avenger and SHIELD Agent, currently on house arrest, watching as SHIELD Quinjet is slowly landing near his Farm.
“Barton” Fury greets with narrowed eyes
Clint nods and looks down “Director. We should probably go inside.”
Fury nods and they both go inside.
Fury, Clint and Laura are sitting in living room while Cooper and Lila are watching their youngest brother play with his toys, and are “secretly” listening in to the conversation.
“We have a problem” Fury says and both Clint and Laura frown
“I would help but-“ Clint starts and Fury holds his finger, shutting Clint up
Fury holds Laura a paper and she takes it reading it silently
“This is a deal, that if you help me with Rescue Mission, your “House Arrest” is officially done”
Clint’s eyes perk a little at that and he looks to Laura for confirmation. She nods and he turns back to Fury
“What Rescue Mission?”
Fury signs “You are aware that Stark after your… conflict, simply left along with Vision.”
Clint looks down in guilt but nods
“He was helping me for some weeks with finding remaining Hydra Operatives and saving old an friend of mine.”
Clint wants to make funny comment about Fury having friends, but stops when he sees Fury’s face expression.
“Three days ago, we were attacked and Stark was captured.”
Whole Barton family, except Nate, is staring at Fury with wide eyes.
“You have to go!” Lila shouts looking at her dad, coming towards them, her brother fallowing closely behind her, while nodding in agreement.
Clint looks at Laura who nods and he gives his kids small smile. He then turns to Fury and says “I’m in”
He just hopes that they won’t be late…
If someone told Hope Van Dyne, that her boyfriend would become international terrorist alongside Captain America, she would laugh.
And yet here she is…
In sunglasses and stupid hat, walking in streets of San Francisco. Keeping a low profile.
When Scott outed himself as Ant-Man, Pym Technologies became accomplice to his crimes. Nobody cares that he took the Suit and left in middle of night without single word.
Stupid idiot…
She is aware, that he took a plea deal from the UN and is currently on House Arrest.
But that doesn’t mean that she or her dad are cleared of his crimes. The UN wants Pym Particles and neither Hope or Hank are wiling to give them up.
So they are both on run, trying to access Quantum Realm and find her Mom.
She is using every inch of her will power to not go to Scott and beat his ass up.
A familiar voice makes Hope stop dead in her tracks.
“Hello Hope”
She signs and turns “Uncle Fury. Are you here to bring me in?”
“No”
“Then why are you here?”
“Can’t I visit my Goddaughter?”
Hope narrows her eyes “You never visit”
Fury just stares at her before he speaks “I need your help”
Hope shakes her head and goes to walk away “Save it. I told you once, I’m not joining your secret boy band”
Fury chuckles a little, remembering as someone else once told him the same. “It’s about Stark”
That makes Hope stop. She and Tony aren’t currently on great terms. They got into stupid argument and both are to proud to make the first step in talking it out.
She is aware what happened to him with Avengers and is pissed on his behalf. She even tried to contact him but his phone number is dead.
“What about him?”
“He was kidnapped by Hydra”
“What?!” Hope yells and some pedestrians turn to her and give her weird looks, but she ignores them and fully focuses on her Godfather before her.
“I’m putting together a team, to help us break him out”
“So you know about..”
“The Wasp Suit? Yes i do.”
Hope looks down and closes her eyes. “What do you got?”
Fury signs “Not much. We don’t even know where he is right now, but Stark’s Daughter is trying to narrow it down”
“Daughter?!”
Fury shrugs “It’s a long story”
Vision enters Tony’s workshop where Friday is looking over screens, her eyes glowing electric blue, fully focused on task before her.
“Do you have anything?” Vision asks hesitantly and Friday’s eyes snap towards him making him make one step back.
“I don’t” she growls and turns back to screens
She is pissed, frustrated and…scared. She doesn’t want to lose her Dad… not again.
She lowers her head and whispers with shaken voice “If I went with him… he would be here.”
Vision places a hand on Friday’s shoulder making her look at him “If you went, more people would lose their lives…”
“And my Father would be here” she mumbles with tears in her eyes
Vision pulls her into hug and she starts sobbing into his chest.
In reality…He feels just as guilty as she does.
He is one of the most powerful beings on Earth and wants to be able to protect the people that he loves and cares about…
But somehow I always fail…
Vision’s phone gets a message and Vision and Friday brake apart.
“It’s director Fury, he has Mr. Barton and Ms. Van Dyne”
Friday nods “Uncle Rhodey and Aunt Helen are also on their way. They are also brining Peter and Uncle Happy”
Vision nods and gives Friday reassuring smile “We will find him”
Friday tries her best to return his smile, but she is pretty sure she failed.
They both turn to monitors and try to find their missing Father or in Vision’s case, Grandfather.
“This isn’t working. He is resisting the procedure” MODOK says, hovering into the room.
“How is that even possible?! The Chair never failed, even with Super Soldiers” Viper snaps
“His mind is to strong. To guarded…”
“So what do you propose?” Viper asks intrigued
Modok smirks “We break him”
“How?”
“We use his PTSD against him. And if that doesn’t work… White torture” MODOK answers
Viper smirks and turns back to the cameras.
There, Tony Stark is lying covered in Blood and Burns, asleep.
