Broken
The walk to the hospital ward was almost inexistent to Amity.
The world was blank to her. Nothing registered. It could rain, and Amity might not feel it.
Luz...the love of her life, her dear wife, had been taken from her. She was gone, and Amity was unable to keep her safe.
They had made a vow the day they got married, to always watch each other's back, and Amity had failed that vow. She had utterly failed at it.
"I swear when I see Kikimora and Terra again." Eda growled behind it. Absoluteley livid at what just happened. "I swear I'm gonna kill them."
"Calm down Eda. Anger like that will not help us." Lilith said calm. But a look at her face and her tone, showed she was equally as angry herself. "We will find Luz, but we need to find who planned this, and why did they take her ?"
Amity did not comment. She just entered the hospital wing.
Hettie Cutbrun, the former head of the Healing Coven, who renounced the old ways after Belos' death, had created this place for patients that needed extra care, and she even made it subtle for humans.
"I come to see Camila Noceda." Amity said quietly.
"Relation to the patient ?"
"I'm her daughter in law." An undeserving one at that. "My daughter is with her right now."
The nurse nodded at her. "Second floor, room 8."
"Thank you."
Amity climbed the stares, her head and stomach hurting at what she could possibly say to Camila.
Amity hesitated at the door. Thinking about what she was about to say.
With one final sigh, she opened the door, to see Camila already awake in bed. Vee and Azura were sitting at her side.
"Mommy !" Azura yelled, running to Amity when she saw it.
"Hey honey." Amity said quietly. Hugging her daughter tightly.
"Amity, Im so glad you are ok." Camila said. "Is Luz with you, I need to check on her."
At hearing that. Amity broke.
She fell to her knees and started to cry.
"I'm sorry....I'm so sorry..." She whimpered.
"Amity...." Camilia said quietly. "Where...where is Luz ?"
"Mommy....where is mama ?" Azura asked.
"Azura baby....I...I'm so sorry...I...I could not protect her."
At that, Eda and Lilith entered the room.
"It was not your fault Amity." Lilith said. "We all tried our best....we just got overwellemd."
"Eda...what happened to Luz ?" Camila asked.
Eda sighted. "The attackers, the ones that set the explosion, they took her. They said they needed her for her plan. Whatever it is....we tried to get to them, but we all got knocked out. By the time we were back in reality, they were gone."
"No....Mija...." Camila said, starting to cry herself. "LUZ, NOOO !" She yelled. Vee quickly came to console her.
"I'm sorry." Amity said again.
Camila snigged, and calmed down for a moment.
"No, don't say that."
"But I..."
"Amity. From the moment I met you, you have made Luz very very happy, and I have no doubt you did everything you could to stop her from being taken. So stop saying you are sorry, this is not your fault. I will never blame you for this. The ones I blame, are the manacidos that took her. And I trust they are gonna get what they deserve. "
"Oh they are, you can count on that." Eda growled.
"Mommy....is Mama gonna be ok ?" Azura asked, still holding Amity.
Amity kissed her forehead. "She is gonna be fine honey. And I'll get her back. I promise that."
Amity then looked at Vee. "Have you heard anything about Gus ? He was badly injured when I last saw him."
"Gus will be fine. He should be waking up soon. But.....something happened...to Willow."
"Willow ! What's wrong with Willow ?!"
"No one knows. She was apparently poisoned by one of the masked witches. She's alive, but she can't be woken up. Almost as she was trapped in her dreams. Potion masters, including your brother, have been trying to find what potion they used on her, but so far they have been unable to."
"No...Willow....how's Hunter doing ?"
"Last I checked, he is not taking it well."
"That is not all." Camila mumbled. "I'm sorry to say...that boy Matthamoule...he was killed on the blast."
"We figured." Lilith said. "Kikimora made no secret what she did. A young good soul was taken already..."
"And if we are not careful, there could be more." Raine said, entering the room.
"Raine." Eda said, hugging her spouse.
"I'm relived you are safe Eda. But I...I am heartbroken to hear Luz was taken."
Amity nodded. "You...do you know who took her."
"I think I do. But we must discuss this with more people. This might be bigger than we thought."
"Mittens !" Ed and Em hugged Amity as she entered the room.
Azura had stayed with Camila and Vee while Amity was here. This was not something a child should hear.
"Ed...Em...I...I lost her..."
"We know Mittens. We are so sorry." Em mumbled.
"We will get her back Mittens, you'll see." Ed said.
"Thank you."
Her siblings guided her to the table were they sitting.
On it, she found Hunter, sitting down and looking down.
Amity sighted and sat besides him.
"I'm sorry about Willow."
"Thank you....I'm sorry about Luz.....why do things like this keep happening. I thought it was done."
"So did I...but we will get them back." She held his hand. "I know we will."
Hunter finally turned to her, and gave her a small smile. "I know..."
"Allright everyone." Raine called. "Thank you for coming. Now I assume all of you have questions for what just happened. But first, I'd like to acknowledge the loss of life that happened in this attack. Matt Tholomule was a young witch, who was just starting out on life. May he Rest In Peace."
A somber quiet filled the room. It reminded Amity and Hunter that despite their situations, their wives are still alive. They still had a chance. Not Matt, that had been taken from him.
"Im sorry Gus." Hunter mumbled quietly. It had seem that Gus and Matt could become a thing, but...but that won't be happening now.
"Now as to the identity of the attackers. We have interrogated the captured witches, and we have now confirmed that the attackers are a group called, the Confederation."
"The Confederation ?" Eda asked, "What in the world is that group..."
"The Confederation is a group that seeks to restore the way things were under Belos." Darius said. "The coven system, the banning of wild magic, all of what that madman did, they want it back of course, with them at the power."
"We had suspicions that Kikimora and Terra Snapdragon were part of it, and now we can confirm it. We also suspect the other missing former coven hearts, Adrian, Vitimir, and Osran are part of it."
"But is any of them the leader. Because if somehow Kikimora is leading them, this is gonna be easy." Eda said.
"I don't think so." Lilith said. "During the fight. Terra said she and Kiki had orders, meaning someone is at the top."
Raine shared a look at Darius, who nodded.
"We are not certain....but before I say more, I want the Blight family to prepare themselves, This information will be distressing."
No.....Amity already knew who it was...
"The one we think is leading the Confederation....is Odalia Blight."
No one spoke for a little while.
"Of course she is behind this." Emira growled.
"Bitch never learned. All she cared is power, and look what she is willing to do to get it." Edric growled.
Amity said nothing. Rage like she never felt before feeling her.
"I thought Odalia lost all of her snails and assets after we figured she knew about Belos' plan." Lilith said.
"She did." Alador mumbled. "But as much as I hate it, Odalia is smart. I have no doubt she hid some snails and assets in a secret vault that only she knows, the moment she figured things turned against her."
"Odalia hits the perfect profile of someone who would join the Confederation. She hits it fully. A person that loose all of their power when Belos died, and is proven to not care about anything else. Its not surprising she is in it, much less be the leader of it."
“The question, is why, kidnap Luz. What do they need of her ?’ Lilith wondered. “She’s obviously a Target. Being the one that started Belos’ downfall, and the one that destroyed everything they want back. But why kidnap her. Terra said they needed her for something.”
“Welllll.” Eda mumbled, “I might....just might. Have an idea why they want her.”
“And why that might be ?”
“Well....Luz and King have been working lately...so she can use her Titan form again.”
There was no sound at that.
They all known how Luz defeated Belos. Fusing with the Titan to get his powers. In that state, even Belos controlling the Titan had been powerless against her.
Some were clearly not pleased this was being hid. But most were afraid what the Confederation could want with that.
And how could they have learned it. Maybe they....had spies in the city.
“Did you know.” Hunter asked. “About What Luz has been doing.”
“Yes.” Of coruse she has known. Luz had told her the minute she got her idea. It had even been Amity’s idea that they keep it between them, Eda, and King.
Could she have prevented this if she told Luz this was a bad idea. Luz had convinced her pretty quickly. She wanted to do it so she could protect the family.
Arguments started being thrown. Where was the Confederation hiding. Where would their next attack be. What was the point of poisoning Willow and what had they used.
So many questions, but Amity could not muster the care for that now.
Her wife was missing, and it was all pointing that her own mother was behind it.
Even if Amity had disowned her, it was still too much to bear.
“I need fresh air.” She mumbled. Standing up and leaving the room.
Amity walked outside of the building and went to the nierby Woods.
When she was out of sight. She blew.
“GAAAAAH!” She yelled in pure rage. Making an abomination fist and crushing some trees.
“YOU JUST HAD TO COME BACK ! I WAS HAPPY. I WAS FINALLY HAPPY WITH MY LIFE. AND YOU HAD TO COME AGAIN AND RUIN IT ALL !”
Amity continued to yell as she destroyed more trees.
“I CURSE FATE FOR MAKING YOU MY MOTHER. I WISH THE COLLECTOR OR BELOS HAD KILLED YOU. WHEN I SEE YOU, I WILL KILL YOU ! BECAUSE I FUCKING HATE YOU. YOU HEAR ME ODALIA, I FUCKING HATE YOU, AND I SWEAR ON THE TITAN, I WILL KILL YOU !”
“Mittens.”
Amity stopped her rant, to see Alador behind her.
“Dad I...I’m sorry I just needed too...I mean....”
“It’s ok, I know you are feeling too much right now. Let it out honey, let it all out.”
Alador stretches his arms, and Amity gladly accepts it, crying on her father’s arms.
“I’m scared Dad...”she said between sobs. “Luz...she’s my everything. I don’t think I can go threw without her. And Azura...I haven’t done it on my own. How am I gonna take care of her, tell her what’s happening. I don’t know what t do.”
“Luz will be fine, and she’ll be back at your side. We will make sure of it. And you will not be alone with Azura. We will all help.”
Alador signaled to Amity to sit down, which she shakily did.
“Before the wedding. Luz messaged me and your siblings, about your fears of being like Odalia.”
“...I don’t want to hurt her.”
“Sweetie as probably person who has spent more time with her, let me tell you. She might have given birth to you. But you are the total opposite of Odalia. She only cares for herself and what she can gain. You care about others, and what they want. Just like she didn’t hesitate to use you, you would never even consider harming Azura.” He said, giving her another hug. “It’s all gonna be fine Mittens, it will all be fine.”
“I....I hate her dad. I hate her so much....”
Raine called of the meeting and told everyone to get a good rest. Tomorrow. They start the search.
Amity picked up Azura, and went to visit the unconscious Willow. Praying that her friend could wake up soon.
Then she finally took Azura home.
The house didn’t feel like a home without Luz, knowing what just happened. It still felt bad that Amity could be here confortable while Luz was who knows where.
But Camila had advised her that she needed to have Azura in a familiar environment. That she had to try her best to make things as normal for the kid. It’s what she had done when her husband died.
Camila would spend the night at the hospital, but she promised that she and Vee would stay with her to help her.
“Go get ready to sleep honey. Are you hungry, do you want something to eat.”
Azura shook her head. “Thirsty,”
“You are thirsty, what do you want ?....what about that hot chocolate your mama makes. I can’t make it as well as she does but I do know how.”
Azura looked at her and nodded. “I’d like that.”
“Go On then...I’ll make it for you.’
Azura nodded and headed for her room.
Amity sighted. “Be strong Blight. Be strong for her. That’s what Luz would do.”
So she did. Amity held her emotions. She didn’t let a single tear drop, for Azura. Because she needed to be there for her daughter.
She made her her hot chocolate, tucked her in, and even read her more of the Good Witch Azura, even if each word made her heart break, she kept going.
Before all of this happened, she promised Luz that she would not allow her fear to get in her way of being a parent. And that’s what she did.
On her way from Azura’s room. She came across where Stingbrain and Ghost slept. The poor snake was devastated by her partner’s loss. Ghost tried to console her.
“I’m sorry Stingbrain. We will get her back. You’ll see.”
Only when Azura was finally asleep. Only when she was on their room, in a bed she should be sharing with her wife, did Amity let her tears out.
“Batata...” she cried. Holding a picture she kept in her stand. The first picture she and Luz took with Azura. “I would trade places with you in a heartbeat. I’m so scared...I don’t know if I can be the worthy parent that Azura deserves. I need you...”
Amity looked at the picture, careful to not soak it with her tears.
“I will get you back Luz. You saved me so many times...it’s about time I return the favor. I will get our family back together. I promise.”
Honestly Amity didn’t know how much she stayed looking at that picture. Not until her door was opened.
Azura stood there. Holding a stuff animal that Willow (gosh Willow, What had they done to her, it was just too much) had given to her.
“Mommy.” She said threw tears, “I had a nightmare, can I sleep with you ?”
Amity gave her a smile. “Of course you can honey, come here.”
Azura rushes to her bed, and snuggled with Amity.
“Mommy...when is Mama gonna be back ?”
“I....I don’t know honey. I really wish I did. But I’m gonna find her, and bring her back, and I won’t allow those bad witches to get you. That I promise.”
Azura nodded and closed her eyes. “I love you mommy.”
“I love you too honey.” And with that, Amity turned off the lights, and held her daughter close as she slept.
