Chishiya looked around at the group of people he was with. “Get to the goal? This doesn’t sound like a team game,” He mumbled looking down at the ground, his mind wandered to the first game he played.

He loved his dad with all his heart, and Chishiya loved to go climbing mountains with him. It was better than being with people from his year, mainly because they would bully him for being different and physical. He didn’t have any friends, they all left him because he wanted to be everyone’s friend. It was almost every week that they would climb a mountain, it didn’t matter how big or how small, he loved every moment of it. One day his dad went on a trip and never came back, leaving Chishiya alone, his mother wasn’t in the picture for him. He was eating some strawberry Mochi that he had gotten on his way home from school when the news came on with a heartbreaking announcement. His dad had died during a no-extra-oxygen mountain climb that had never been done before. Chishiya froze, he dropped the half-eaten Mochi and tears started to flood in his eyes, his father was one of the best mountain climbers in the world, he couldn’t believe it. Ever since that day, whenever he would leave the house, there would be so many paparazzi waiting for him, asking him questions about his fathers. Did he commit suicide? Was he really dead? People even covered his house in graffiti.
Chishiya was lying on his bedroom floor, fireworks blew up into the sky but Chishiya wasn’t bothered about them as he stayed staring down at the ground not moving an inch. All the lights suddenly turned off in his room which didn’t shock him, he didn’t care. He only cared when a blinding light shone on his face and made him sit up and look outside. “What is that?” He mumbled looking over at the big sign. “Game? Huh?” He walked out of his room and over to the sign. It had an arrow on it, he chose to follow the arrow.
The arrow took him to Jingu-mae Elementary School where he saw a table that sat a bunch of phones. He didn’t move any closer as he was afraid of what this was. There were loud footsteps behind him before he was pushed towards the table of phones. He fought against the person who was pushing him.
“Hey! What are you doing!” Chishiya screamed and punched the much taller and stronger male. The man looked unfazed.
“Look kid, if you want to live, you need to play the games.” The man grabbed a phone and so did Chishiya, he was nervous but listened to the man.
“What is this place? Where did everyone go?” He nervously asked as the phone shared that they were the only players and there was him and the strong man. “And who are you?”
The man turned towards him. “My name is Haru Tanaka. This looks like a small game today, this should be interesting,”
“Small game? What are these games? Why do we have to do them?” Chishiya asked Tanaka. “I’m Shuntaro Chishiya…”
They watched as an old lady walked over to them using some very old and rusty crutches. Tanaka’s eyes softened with a glint of sadness. Their phones lit up and a voice started talking to them.
Game: playground
Difficulty: ace of spades.
“ yes! An easy game, we will beat this kid,” Tanaka told Chishiya.
“Beat this? What are you talking about!” Chishiya asked angrily as he got no answers from Tanaka. The woman looked over at the two and sighed softly.
“Another newbie? How many more do you think there will be?” She spoke in a very motherly and soft tone.
Tanaka shrugged as the phone kept talking
Rules: get across the playground without falling
Time Limit: 5 minutes.
“Five minutes? That’s easy!” Tanaka laughed.
“We don’t know how we can clear the game yet,” The woman told the man.
Clear Conditions: be the first person to complete the playground.
“Only one person can clear this?” Tanaka looked down at his phone puzzled.
“Well, the newbie will obviously die here! So it’s just down to me and you,” The woman laughed like a maniac.
The ground around them shook as a little children’s obstacle course appeared from the ground. It was full of monkey bars, slides, flying foxes, and still rings.
Chishiya’s face lit up with a wide smile. “I wouldn’t be so sure that I’d die.” Chishiya looked at the woman whose eyes went wide. He looked down at her leg and noticed it was covered in lots of burns, cuts, and bruises. “What about you? You look hurt.” Chishiya pointed out to her.
“Kid, that's normal here. You aren’t gonna be alive for much longer to figure that out though,” The guy threatened. Chishiya looked at his phone and mentally swore at himself. The time had been going down the whole time they were talking, they only had 3 minutes left.
He was flying along the playground obstacles with ease. Tanaka and the woman didn’t seem to have noticed that Chishiya was about halfway down the course, they look like they were busy in a stupid argument.
With one minute remaining, Chishiya was about 1 metre away from the end. Tanaka and the woman finally noticed the short male.
“This can’t be!!” Tanaka shouted! “He’s a newbie! He can't win!”
“Well you can’t either, there’s only a minute left and this took about 2 minutes for me to complete,” Chishiya told him while looking around. “How do I get back home!” Chishiya shouted with a scared tone to his voice.
“Just keep playing games kid, and don’t let your visa get below 1, maybe someone else can tell you more at your next games. Tomorrow join one or your dead,” Tanaka spoke, he tried to keep his voice sounding calm in reality he was freaking out.
Chishiya listened to the 2 before his vision went blurry and he saw a mop of brown hair appear in his vision.

“Chishiya! Chishiya!” Arisu screamed in his face while shaking his shoulders. “Come on, we need to go. The game has started!”
Chishiya looked down at his phone to notice he had wasted the group 5 minutes. Chishiya, Arisu and 2 of the men from the bus ran off down the tunnel when the number at the bottom of their phones was starting to go up. They were running for a while, the only noise was their feet hitting the ground and panting coming from the unfit men. Chishiya was having a blast, this is was he was best at physical activities. That’s why he is a spades player. The only thing on his mind was the thought of his dad being at the goal, his only reason for going on.
They took a break at 2000 metres. “How much longer do you think this is?” One of the men complained.
“No time to complain, we don’t know how far it is and we have 1 ½ hours left,” Arisu spoke up while catching his breath. “And we don’t know when any of the trails will be starting. Or how many there are actually,”
They started running again. Chishiya took off his hoodie and wrapped it around his waist, he was glad he was wearing a black top underneath or he would have started to overheat and possibly die during the run. They made it to 6000 metres and they saw a drink station.
One of the men tried to grab one of the drinks. “Wait! This might be a trail! It could be poisonous!” His friend grabbed his arm and shouted at him.
“But I’m so thirsty!” He complained like a baby.
Chishiya pulled out his water bottle and offered it to the man. “Here, it is clean, I got it before we got here.”
Everyone had a drink so they went off further into the tunnel and they saw glowing yellow eyes staring at them.
