Note
Welcome to our Holiday calendar, in which we will focus on fragments from the lives of our heroes in The Devil All The Time series. You can look forward to a lot of characters that appeared mostly in the whole series. The one-shots are arranged chronologically, so you hopefully be familiar with the time period. I won't have as much time in December, so I'll try to release them as soon as possible and you can read them as you wish. ❤️

Peter & Tony

Peter sat in the back seat of one of the many cars his father owned, silently watching the passing buildings. Today was the first day he returned to school after the winter holidays. He was looking forward to school, especially Ned, whom he had to retell what had happened to them during Christmas. His best friend was worried about him when he saw someone attack their house in Malibu on TV. Unfortunately for him, he started telling him during the lunch break, and just as he was telling him about his mother's abilities, Flash appeared next to them and laughed in his face. He said that Pepper is definitely not his mom. Only his dad's girlfriend, who one day stops entertaining him, so Tony kicks her off. And Peter knew it was a lie, but he was only twelve years old, and a small thorn of doubt settled in him. When he thought about it, a chill ran down his body.

Of course, Tony noticed his son's silence immediately. It wasn't hard to notice when other times it was almost over the human task of getting him to shut up. "How was school, bat?" He asked, talking a little and giving him a quick look in the rearview mirror. Peter didn't seem to catch his question, but he turned to him anyway.

"Could I have a mom's last name?" He blurted out of nowhere.

"What?" Tony asked, startled by his question. Personally, he was more than happy that Peter had taken Pepper as his mother and no longer remembered Mary, but he still didn't expect his son to ask him anything like that.

"Why can't we all have the same last name? How do others would know she's my mom?” He began to murmur, his breathing quickening suspiciously.

Tony didn't hesitate too much and parked his car in the first possible place, ran outside, and sat back next to Peter. "You need to breathe, buddy, or you'll have a seizure," he said softly. He reached for Peter's backpack and pulled out an inhaler, which he shoved into his son's hand.

"Rather, we should tell Mom to change her last name. It'll be easier.” Peter was already wheezing lightly. Tony therefore carefully grabbed his hand, which held the inhaler and forced him to use it.

"Isn't that better?" Tony asked a rhetorical question as Peter took two breaths through the inhaler and his breathing returned to normal. The brown-haired boy nodded, but still had a sad look on his face. "Don't you want to tell me what happened?"

"Nothing," he whispered, his head bowed.

"Come on, bat. You can tell me,” Tony urged.

Peter shrugged. "I just want everyone to know she's my mom."

Elder Stark sighed. He didn't know how to handle this situation, but he had to do something about it. He hated the sight of the sad Peter. "We'll all have the same last name one day," he told him a little uncertainly. This was a big promise he didn't have to keep because most of that promise depended purely on Pepper.

"Really?" He exclaimed excitedly, raising his head quickly to his father. He had a bright smile on his face, and Tony would give anything in the world to keep his son smiling like that forever.

"It probably won't be in the near future, but it could happen sometime," he said, but fortunately it didn't hurt his son.

"Let's go see Mom," he urged as if ignoring his words.

"Am I not good enough for you anymore?" Tony asked anxiously, but an amused grin played on his face. He moved back to his driver's seat and drove toward Stark Industries. He couldn't wait to tell Pepper that Peter wanted her last name. He would have to film her reaction so that he could tease her in a few years.
