Chapter 3
Wanda woke up the next morning, expecting to be pushed out the door and onto a plane headed for Monte Carlo. She was dead wrong.
She woke up the next morning when Natasha threw a plastic bag with some clothes inside of it at her face. Wanda woke up, glaring at the bag, as Natasha said, "Get dressed. We leave in twenty minutes."
"Can I just wear what I have on?" Wanda asked.
"Well, if those people are trying to kill you, they're gonna expect you in a black sweatshirt and black leggings. They're not gonna expect you to be wearing a color." Natasha argued, motioning to the bag. "I threw together an outfit I think will fit you based on clothes I have. Put them on and give them back to me later. Bathroom is free."
Seeing no choice, Wanda trudged into the bathroom with the plastic bag. Wanda pulled out the clothes, cringing when she saw a bright yellow dress. It had puff sleeves and a frilly skirt, and it seemed specially designed to make Wanda die internally. Once again, seeing no choice, Wanda changed into the dress, sighing heavily when she saw that there was only a fresh pair of socks in the back and not a pair of tights or leggings. Wanda took her hair out of the scrunchie she had slept in, letting her hair fall past her shoulders. Wanda dug into the bag and saw a fresh toothbrush, a new bar of deodorant, a tube of mascara, a stick of eyeliner, a nudey pink liquid lipstick, and a pallet of eyeshadow with a brush. Getting the impression that Natasha wanted Wanda to put on makeup as a way to make herself look slightly different, Wanda started applying the makeup. When Wanda deemed it good enough, she gathered her clothes and walked out of the bathroom. "Okay Natasha, I'm changed, does this-"
Wanda froze when she saw Vision, his red plaid shirt rolled up to his elbows. Wanda and Vision stared at each other, Wanda's eyes shifting between Vision's somewhat tight jeans and his unbuttoned plaid shirt, Vision's chest poking out and showing a six pac, by the looks of it, through his white T-shirt and Vision's eyes kept shifting between staring at Wanda's hair and staring at Wanda's legs. Natasha walked into the kitchen, smiling at Wanda as she said, "Yeah, this is fine. She doesn't look like the person from the coffee shop yesterday, right Victor?"
"Um... Yeah, she... She doesn't." Vision agreed, blinking his eyes a few times. "Wow... I... I think this is the first time I've seen you with your hair down and wearing a skirt."
"I... Um... I don't do it often." Wanda said, averting her gaze to the ground as she felt herself start to blush. Now was not the time or the place.
"Yeah, I... I know. You look really pretty with your hair down. You should wear it like that more often." Vision said, his own face becoming red as he also averted his gaze.
Natasha watched, a smirk on her face, as Sam and Bucky walked back into the apartment, Sersi packing up the last of her electronics. Bucky said, "Hey guys, we got everything ready to go downstairs."
"R-Right." Vision said, snapping back into action as he looked at Wanda. "You got your backpack?"
"N-Not yet." Wanda said, quickly walking over to her backpack and put on her black sneakers, grabbing her backpack after stuffing her clothes inside. "Let's go."
The car ride to the public airport was dead silent. Natasha was driving, Sersi was up front, and Wanda was squished in the back with Sam, Vision, and Bucky. Wanda was halfway sitting in her seat, halfway sitting down on Vision's lap, making Wanda turn even more red from embarrassment. The group got to the airport, checking in with a private flight, they sat down somewhat near each other. Vision stayed next to Wanda, noticing that Wanda was getting on her phone. Vision said, "You should turn off your phone. Whoever's trying to kill you could be tracing your phone to find your location."
"That's a real thing?" Wanda asked, connecting her headphones to her phone, completely ignoring what Vision had told her to do.
Vision sighed, lowering his voice, "Wanda, please, for once in your life, don't be stubborn. Listen to me for your own safety."
"I'm just listening to music." Wanda said defensively.
Vision closed his eyes, turning more towards Wanda. "Listen, I have an iPod in my bag that I use to listen to music. I will share it with you on the flight if you turn off your phone right now."
Wanda rolled her eyes. "Wow, now we're resorting to bribery?"
"Wanda, please." Vision begged.
Wanda paused for a moment, then nodded. "Fine."
"Thank you. What are you-" Vision started to ask, then saw what Wanda was listening to. "Really? Christmas music in September?"
"You know that I listen to a capella music when I get stressed out." Wanda said defensively.
"It's Christmas music." Vision repeated. "You were listening to The 12 Days of Christmas."
"It's not my fault that Pentatonix has a lot of Christmas albums!" Wanda said, laughing a little, Vision laughing with her. "It was just the first song that popped up!"
Vision smiled, resting his arm on the back of the chairs they were sitting in. "You doing okay?"
"Better... I guess. Now I'm just kind of nervous about potentially seeing my brother again." Wanda explained. "We haven't exactly talked since we were sixteen."
"What happened?"
"He ran away from our private school and went globe trotting after that. He wanted me to come with him, but I decided to stay at the school. Last time I saw him, he was jumping over the gate at our school and running into the unknown."
"Why didn't you go with him?"
"School may not have been fun, but at least it was safe." Wanda said, shrugging. "I mean, I always did my best to keep myself safe. I started dying my hair in high school-"
"Wait... You dye your hair?"
"Yeah."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Wanda said, chuckling. "Is that hard to believe?"
"Well, no, it's just... Red hair looks so natural on you. I can't believe that that's dyed hair." Vision said quickly. "I mean... The red hair makes your eyes pop and it showcases those little yellow flecks you have in your eyes and it makes those little freckles you have near your nose more obvious and-"
"Do you... Always... Ramble like this?" Wanda asked teasingly. "You haven't with me, so I'm just curious."
"Sometimes my brain goes a million miles a minute and I can't stop words from coming out of my mouth, yes." Vision agreed, Wanda laughing again.
Vision glanced around the room, noticing that there were a few men with circle tattoos that looked vaugely similar to what they had seen the day before in the room with them, growing a bit anxious. Wanda asked, "What's wrong?"
"Tattoo people are nearby."
"Oh." Wanda said nervously.
Vision studied Wanda for a second before he said, "Kiss me."
"What?" Wanda asked, caught off guard.
"People are uncomfortable with other people showing public forms of affection."
"Um... Yeah, I'd say so."
"Kiss me and they won't come anywhere near us."
"Vision, I-" Wanda started to protest as Vision leaned in and caught her off guard as he kissed her, Wanda melting slightly before stiffening in confusion. Wanda got even more confused when she realized she was kissing Vision back, and when the finally separated, Wanda quietly asked, her face a cherry tomato, "Why did you do that?"
"Because I wanted to make sure they wouldn't come near us." Vision said quickly, his face growing to the same bright red. "The reason I said."
"So... No strings attached to that?" Wanda asked nervously.
"Yeah... No strings. Why would there be string?" Vision asked, his voice wavering as he laughed nervously.
"Yeah, right, no strings. Just... Just a random kiss." Wanda said, watching as Natasha walked over.
"Hey, the plane's here."
"Right... Um... Let's go." Vision said, motioning for Wanda to follow him and Natasha. Wanda nodded, silently following Natasha to the plane. The interior was nice, brightly colored and tan, the seats a nice leather. Wanda sat down in one of the seats by the window, Vision sitting down in the seat next to her. As Wanda looked over at Vision, she noticed that he got out a small yellow iPod Touch, it was an old model, but Vision plugged in a pair of earbuds and offered one to Wanda. "I may not have a capella music, but I fo have Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance, and I know how much you like those bands."
Wanda smiled, sticking in one earbud in her ear, then rested her head on Vision's shoulder as the plane went into take off. Twenty minutes into the flight, both Wanda and Vision were fast asleep. Sam stared at them as he said, "Okay, they're asleep, we can talk about them."
"You saw them kiss, right?" Bucky asked Natasha and Sersi.
"Oh yeah, definitely." Natasha said quickly.
"Wait, so, do you guys think that Vision and Wanda have a crush on one another?" Sersi asked.
"Are you just now figuring that out?" Sam asked.
"He told her that he kissed her to make sure the people who were watching them weren't watching, but something tells me that there's more to that story than what he's saying." Natasha added.
"Okay... So how do we prove that he has a crush on her?" Sersi asked. "Do we just keep pushing them into situations together and hope that they confess or something?"
"Sorta." Natasha agreed. "That's kind of why I put Wanda in a skirt."
"Really? You put her in a skirt and expected... What, exactly? This?" Bucky asked, motioning to Wanda sleeping on Vision's shoulder.
"Well, no, I honestly expected Vision to confess his undying love." Natasha said sarcastically. "I tried. You guys know that I've usually been used to try and seduce people. I'm good and making people look good, and that's what I did. I couldn't have predicted this!"
"Okay, well, what do we do?" Sersi asked. "I mean, he has never had a thing for anyone before, not to mention that he's like... Really private. Not to mention, we barely know Wanda. All we really know about her is what we read in her file. How, on Earth, are we going to get the two of them together when one doesn't really like to show their emotions and the other... Who knows what's going on with the other?"
"I mean... I have a few ideas..." Bucky said cautiously.
"Oh yeah? What are they?" Sam asked, crossing his arms.
"We put Wanda in the field and we make Vision her partner."
"Are you insane?" Natasha asked. "People are trying to kill her."
"I looked at her school grades and stuff like that. She probably could have gotten into the same program we got into if it wasn't for the whole... Future princess, Maximoff Massacre thing." Bucky explained. "She's gotten straight A's in school her entire life. She could probably figure out the ropes of spy work rather quickly. If they're working together, they're gonna be in close proximity to one another. Proximity leads to talking, and talking could lead to a future relationship."
"Not to mention misattribution." Sam agreed.
"Misattri- What?" Sersi asked.
"Misattribution. It basically means that when people get scared and they have some level of attraction towards the other person, that fright could be misread as romantic arousal."
"So... You want to trick Wanda and Vision into having feelings for one another?"
"Not trick... Just... Ensure that the feelings for one another possibly stick." Natasha argued. "I think it's a great idea."
"Doesn't that seem like lying to them?" Sersi asked.
"It's not lying, technically." Bucky argued. "And, if anything, it would stop Wanda and Vision from lying to themselves and each other. Don't we want him to be happy?"
"Well... Yeah... But I don't think that that's the way to go about it."
"Sersi, trust us, we know what we're doing. No one is going to get hurt. It's only going to help them move along with their lives and hopefully move along together." Sam argued. "Seriously, Vision needs a break. He needs some way to let loose and relax that doesn't involve a shooting range."
"So... What exactly is the plan for when we get there? Like... How are we gonna find Clint and the brother?"
"Well, Clint has to be in deep undercover, right? He has to be with the brother. We find the brother and we find Clint." Natasha argued. "Trust me, I have a plan."
"You have a plan?"
"Yes, a plan. Trust me, it's a good plan, too." Natasha said, nodding her head. "The only person here who knows what, exactly, the brother looks like is the sister."
"You're planning on sending Wanda in with who?"
"Vision, to protect her."
"Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Sersi asked, growing more concerned.
"Positive. And you're not gonna tell them that this is happening, do we understand each other, Sersi?"
Sersi nervously nodded. "Understood."
