Don't Touch That Dial

[Lights Up On Daichi & Koushi’s Dark Bedroom]

Lightning cracked over the small town of Eastview, illuminating Daichi and Koushi’s modest bedroom. Rumbling thunder echoed around the couple who were fast asleep in their individual beds. The synthezoid slept peacefully with his eyes covered by a satin eye mask. His husband, on the other hand, tossed and turned in his own bed, silver brows furrowed in distress. The thunder and lightning reverberated in his head, bringing flashes of distant faces.

Were they friends? Family? Enemies?

A small whimper escaped from Koushi’s lips as another roar of thunder echoed through his room. In his memory it could bring salvation or damnation, but here in his home it only brought—

Koushi bolted up from his bed, breathing heavily. The frame of their home shook with the fierceness of the storm beating down on the small town of Eastview. Pale fingers tightly clutched the plaid comforter, shiny silver locks were plastered to his forehead, and dazed eyes searched the room for the loud crash that forced him from his slumber.

With a wave of his hand the bedside lamp came to life, illuminating the dark room. The crash was sourceless, at least for now. As his breathing settled, Koushi leaned back against his headboard with a relieved sigh, turning off the light with another gesture, but as the darkness settled around him, creeping closer threatening to swallow him whole, he quickly turned on the light with a small squeal.

Daichi let out a small huff. He fiddled with his sleep mask, sitting up straight with a knowing look on his face.

“Koushi?”

“Yes, dear?” Koushi turned to his husband, seeming slightly guilty.

“Are you using your powers to turn on the light?”

“Yes, dear.”

[Cue Audience Laughter]

Daichi threw back his covers and pushed back the curtains on their window. Peeking out into the night, he searched for any sign of an intruder or ruckus in their neighborhood.

“What do you see?”

“Only your lovely rosebushes.”

Koushi shook his head in disbelief. “Is that all? Are you sure you’re using night vision, Daichi?”

Daich turned back to his husband with a charming smile. “I assure you, my love, there is nothing amiss. We have absolutely no reason to be—”

A loud thud came from outside. Daichi scrambled away with a yell and huddled under his covers. Koushi stared at the synthezoid, thoroughly unimpressed.

[Cue Audience Laughter]

“You were saying?”

Daichi pulled the covers down from his face with a sheepish smile. “You know, I did overhear the lads at work talking about a few unsavory characters settling into the neighborhood. Who knows what those hooligans might be up to? Robbing houses, vandalizing property…”

“Walking through walls, moving objects with their mind.” Koushi wiggled his fingers at Daichi.

Daichi frowned, shaking his head in disbelief. “You can’t believe that my co-workers were talking about us?”

Koushi shrugged, a placating smile on his face. “I’m just saying we are the only ones that have moved in recently.”

“That we know of.” Daichi moved to turn their light out, but another loud bang sent him scrambling back under his covers.

Fear struck the couple in their hearts. Their thoughts turned to the great number of things that could be threatening to their neighborhoods. Gasps of terror escaped both of them. Koushi frantically waved his hands back and forth, pushing their beds together so they could cower together.

Daichi turned to his husband with wide eyes still huddled under the covers. “One of us really should determine the source of that sound.”

The other man let out a sigh of exasperation. “Oh this is getting ridiculous.” Koushi rubbed his hands together and took a long slow breath, stabilizing his erratic heart rate. With a flourish, silver sparks flashed from his hand, tugging aside the curtain to reveal the threat.

The couple tensed, expecting to see a phantom face staring at them through the glass, but the only image that greeted them was a large branch waving in the wind and tapping their window.

“Oh thank the stars.” Daichi sighed in relief and slumped against his pillows.

Koushi let out a bark of laughter at the sheer insanity of their actions. “I think we handled that well.”

“Yes, I must say, I am quite proud of us.” Daichi grinned and looked at the lack of space between their beds. “And look at you taking the opportunity to decorate.”

A sly grin spread across Koushi’s face as he leaned in to kiss his husband. “This is better isn’t it?”

Daichi hummed in agreement, cupping the side of Koushi’s face and capturing his lips in a tender kiss. He slowly pulled away. “Koushi, get the light.”

The two came together once more and with another wave of his hand Koushi turned out the light.

[Black Out]

[Lights Up On Backyard]

“Let’s take a break,” Koushi called out, catching the ball Daichi perfectly sent his way. Sweat dripped from Koushi’s brow, plastering strands to his forehead. He pulled up the hem of his shirt, revealing his toned abdomen, to wipe down his face.

Daichi, on the other hand, even with his human disguise was no worse for wear. He was perfectly ready to play back to back games, never breaking a sweat or getting out of breath. The synthezoid would outpace any of their opponents in their upcoming charity match.

Koushi flopped on the grass, arms outstretched, and let the volleyball roll away from him. “Sweetheart, I think you need to tone it down for the actual game.” The inside of his arms were deepening in color for receiving the brunt of Daichi’s aimed spikes. “Can’t be taking off our neighbors arms. It is just a charity match after all.”

[Cue Audience Laughter]

“Did I hurt you?” Daichi sat on the grass next to his husband, taking his forearm in his hands, and pressing a small kiss to Koushi’s skin.

Koushi turned his head in the grass and smiled up at his husband. “No. Just haven’t played in awhile. But seriously, you might want to take it easy on those spikes.”

“Yes, dear,” he murmured against Koushi’s soft skin. “Are you sure we should even participate? We could just bring the snacks?”

Koushi threw his arm over his eyes, shielding himself from the sun with a groan. “It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year. It is our neighborly duty to participate. Plus, it will give us the chance to appear as normal as possible. I just want us to fit in.” He shrugged and let out a soft chuckle.

Releasing Koushi’s arm, Daichi laid down next to his husband on the grass and lovingly pulled Koushi’s arm away from his face. Koushi wore a slight pout, but turned to face his husband who leaned in to kiss his forehead.

“Oh, darling, we do fit in. We shall.” At least he hoped they did. With the state of Koushi’s forearms he feared that he just might give the two of them away, but he also hated seeing Koushi discouraged. With another tender motion, he pushed Koushi’s hair off his damp forehead. “We’ll knock their socks off and take home the trophy. That I promise you.”

Koushi’s face slowly lit up at Daichi’s promise, his concern somewhat lessening as he leaned into his husband’s touch. “I need to shower before the meeting with the planning committee.” He sat up, pulling Daichi with him. Grass clung to the back of his shirt, which Daichi happily plucked off.

“I’d be happy to join you. I have some free time before set up for the matches.”

The two looked at each other and nodded. “Not too long though!” Koushi laughed as Daichi swept him off his feet and carried him inside to their shower.

[Black Out]

[Lights Up on Entryway]

Koushi hastily tucked his polo into his pants and frantically did his belt. Water droplets still clung to his hair from his extended shower, but he did not regret the moment even if he was running late. The watch on his wrist stared up accusingly, letting him know that even as he rushed out the door he would still be uncharacteristically late. He easily dried his hair with a single motion as he opened his front door.

“Oh gee.” Adrian’s hand was raised to knock, and his handsome face quickly split into a grin at Koushi’s presence. “Looks like I don’t have to collect you after all.”

The sight of someone at his front door nearly made him faint. A slight dizziness came over him as he shut the door behind him and shooed his neighbor back. Adrian was everywhere and anywhere.

“Gave me a bit of fright there,” Koushi chuckled with an airy laugh.

Adrian shrugged, turning on his heel and down the stone path through Koushi’s yard. “Just wanted to make sure you wouldn’t be late to this meeting.”

Koushi’s gaze followed Adrian down the path before he started after him. While he felt somewhat uneasy by the sudden appearance of his neighbor he felt foolish for it. Adrian was only ever helpful. A friendly face among the droves of uptight and stingy people at the planning committee meetings. He hated going to these meetings, but Adrian made it bearable. Sure everyone was friendly, but Koushi could honestly say that Adrian was the only friend that he’d made in Eastview this far.

There was something to be said about that. He was sure about it, but he just could not quite find the need for anyone else at this point.

Friends were complicated.

But he did appreciate Adrian’s persistence.

The two made their way down the picturesque sidewalk toward Dottie’s house, passing by tiding lawns, cookie-cutter homes, and flourishing rose bushes. Every home the same with no individuality. Black and white siding. Gray flowers. Matching white picket fences. Orderly and precise.

Koushi looked to his companion as they strolled together. “Any more tips before we enter the snake pit? Last time did not go so well.”

Adrian snorted. “Don’t be yourself.” A wry smile spread across his face as he came to a stop, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Look, I think you’re great the way you are. The rest of those hoity toity nuisances are a snooze fest. But Dottie controls the social calendar. One more wrong move and you and I both will be officially uninvited from every event for the rest of our lives.”

By the tone of his voice Koushi assumed that he would not necessarily mind that, but he understood what he meant. A good impression meant that he and Daichi were one step closer to becoming a permanent part of the community and they would be under less scrutiny. They could both do with a little bit of anonymity.

“I’ll be on my best behavior. Just don’t let them sacrifice me or anything. They’re a bit culty.”

God he just wanted to fit in.

Adrian stared at him for a moment with a curious expression, but it quickly gave way to a laugh. “You have my word. Now let’s go before all the good finger foods are gone.”

He snatched Koushi’s arm and dragged him toward the largest house on the block, featuring columns, a fountain, and even a large pool. The two snuck their way through the gate and quickly merged with the group of well-dressed planning committee members patiently waiting for orders from their overlord, Dottie, who had perfectly flipped bob, eyeliner that never seemed to budge, and a petticoat that threatened to swallow her whole. She looked right at home in this suburb. A contrast to Koushi who still felt out of place.

Dottie fixed the latecomers with a hard stare, but said nothing as they took their seats among the planners. The other gave them no notice. Dottie commanded all their attention with her shrill demands, pointed comments, and commanding presence. Although slim and small framed her sheer power of will drew every eye to her.

Koushi and Adrian took their seats, offering Dottie and the rest of the committee apologetic smiles as they did. They had indeed missed out on the good finger foods much to Adrian’s disappointment. Koushi gave his neighbor a friendly pat in the back.

His attention was quickly turned to the unfamiliar face to his left, a man with broad shoulders, biceps that struggled against his tailored polo, a thick mane of dark hair expertly held in place with copious amounts of gel, and vibrant eyes that seemed to see through everything. Eastview was a small town and it was curious that the two had never met before. Koushi was certain he would have remembered seeing an individual like this.

The stranger’s gaze turned to Koushi, who gave the man a sheepish grin in response but made no move to stop staring.

“I’m Koushi,” he whispered, hoping to not catch the evil gaze of their overlord. “I don’t think we’ve met.”

A wide toothy grin cracked through the man’s stone-like facade. “Howard. Could have sworn we met at the last one.”

“No I don’t think so, but if we did it slipped my mind.” Koushi’s gaze narrowed even as he kept a warm smile on his face. He was certain they’d never met before.

“If you two gabbers could make friends on your own time that would be great,” Dottie practically screeched from her platform. All gazes turned to the offending duo.

Howard was desperately holding in a laugh and Koushi merely shrugged, gesturing for Dottie to continue. Adrian sat stiffly at his right but appeared amused by their current predicament.

“As you all know this is our annual fundraiser and we are changing it up this year.” Dottie’s lips curled in an unnatural and stiff smile as she clapped at the end of her own statement, the rest of the committee following suit. “Our typical talent show is being replaced by a two-on-two volleyball tournament and tickets are $5 a piece. This fundraiser is for the children so I expect that everyone will be giving it their all. For the children!”

“For the children,” everyone echoed.

Howard and Koushi lagged behind with their response, earning more daggers from Dottie and a few of the other invested committee members. The two merely laughed awkwardly and let Dottie continue on with her presentation. It was dreadfully dull. Koushi’s mind wandered to the very children they were fundraising for. He thought that the money went to benefitting local foster children, but he couldn’t be sure. However, he was certain that Dottie could make anything and everything boring and over the top if given the chance. Her high pitched drone threatened to either put him to sleep or give him the worst headache he’d ever had, and everyone paying was giving her their undivided attention.

“How is anyone doing this sober,” Adrian muttered.

[Cue Audience Laughter]

A snicker threatened to escape Koushi, who quickly covered it by shoving a cookie in his mouth.

Dottie continued to detail her every triumph in setting up this event, blatantly forgetting that they had all brainstormed this event together. If he remembered correctly, the volleyball tournament had even been Adrian’s idea, but no one dared correct her. Glancing over to Adrian, Koushi shook his head at the entire situation with a look of irritation. Adrian gave a small nod, signalling his own dissatisfaction with their current situation.

“I’m sorry but I am boring you, Koushi?”

There it was again, that high pitched irritating drone. Koushi dragged his gaze back over to Dottie, wearing a flat expression that turned into a sickly sweet smile. “Not at all, Dottie.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Everyone else is free to leave. Koushi, you'll help clean up before we move over to the gym for the rest of the day.”

This is hell.

But there was no other choice but to comply. He may find Dottie to be irritating and a complete control freak but she was the key to ensuring that he and Daichi could maintain some form of a normal life. That’s what they both wanted.

Adrian and Howard patted Koushi on the shoulder before they left, wearing matching supportive expressions. The rest of the committee soon followed, leaving Dottie and Koushi alone.

[Cue Music Crackling From The Radio]

“Start by cleaning up all the trays please.” Dottie took her seat, folding one leg over the other and watching Koushi expectantly.

The two stared at each other for a moment, irritation threatening to break through Koushi’s smile as he rose and did as she asked.

“You really are a whiz at all this committee stuff, Dottie,” Koushi said, trying to ease the apparent tension between the two. “Thank you for choosing me to help you clean up today. I feel so lucky.”

“You are.”

His smile tightened, but he pressed forward. “I can’t help but wonder if you and I haven’t gotten off on the wrong foot. And I would like to correct that if I can.” Koushi set down the trays and nervously rubbed his hands together. He didn’t like her. However, he did need her.

“And how would you do that?” Dottie stared him down, pursing her lips in annoyance.

Koushi’s smile fell. His brow furrowed in confusion as the woman stalked toward him.

“I’ve heard things about you. You and your husband.”

Cautiously, Koushi walked forward to meet her. “Well I don’t know what you’ve been told, but I assure you I don’t mean anyone any harm.” He kept his tone light, trying to place the hostility that emanated from Dottie. Fingertips burned with energy ready to be released should anything go wrong.

“I don’t believe you.”

Koushi flinched.

The music which faintly filled the garden grew louder, lyrics becoming unintelligible as static overtook them. Loud screeching pierced through the speaker dragging both of their attention to the radio which threatened to explode. Instruments screeched and slammed like a terrible collision.

Koushi glanced at Dottie, who wore a look of terror, eyes wide and lips parted.

Koushi, Koushi, can you read me over?”

That voice was familiar. It broke through the nightmarish screech of the radio, forming words and sentences.

Koushi?”

“Who is that?” Dottie whispered fearfully, tightly clutching the glass in her hand.

Koushi?”

He knew that voice. Where from? The cry of his name through the radio threatened to grasp a hold of a memory he had abandoned. A life he’d abandoned. A life he had ripped from his hands.

“Who are you?” Dottie cried, staring at Koushi and stumbling away from him.

Koushi? Koushi?”

His gaze was fixed to the radio that called for him, desperation filling every inch of his as he tried to step away, but sayed rooted to the ground.

“No,” he whispered.

Who’s doing this to you Koushi? Koushi. Koushi. Ko—

The voice cut out. Electricity sparked and smoke plumed from the device.

Dottie’s grip on her glass tightened, shattering in her hand and falling to the ground. She let out a horrified gasp as the jagged edges tore into her flesh. Scarlet lined the inside of her hand, bright against the dull black, gray, and white surroundings.

“Dottie?” Koushi asked.

The woman looked up, blinking rapidly.

Music began to drift from the radio again.

“You— oh.” Koushi turned around scrambling to find a cloth for the wound on Dottie's hand, still shaken from the incident. He snatched a white linen napkin and wrapped it around her hand.

Dottie took Koushi’s hand in hers, wearing a smile. “Pop quiz Koushi, how does a housewife get a bloodstain out of white linen?”

[Cue Audience Laughter]

Koushi shook his head. There was no reason for her to be acting this way after what happened.

“By doing it herself.” Dottie flashed Koushi with a bright smile, dropping his hand and striding away inside her home.

Koushi made a fist. The trembling in his hands would not go away as thoughts spiraled around his head. He needed to know who that was, but even as he tried to remember the voice and where he knew it from, the forgotten memory neatly tucked itself away out of reach.

[Fade To Black]

[Lights Up On Local High School Gym]

“Bring that pole over here, gents!” Dachi waved Mr. Heart and Carl over, the two men bearing one of the large poles that would hold the volleyball net. Mr. Heart bared the weight of the pole easily, but Carl, Adrian’s husband, was red in the face, huffing with each step. It was safe to assume that if the man continued any further under the weight of the pole he may collapse or drop it all together. Daichi leaped up from his crouching position, ready to relieve Carl of the heavy burden. “Not to worry, Carl, I can take that off your hands.”

Carl fiercely nodded. Sweat dripped down his forehead, staining his striped polo.

“What was that, Daichi?” Mr. Heart quickly whipped around, his speed ripping the pole from Carl’s hands and toward Daichi.

Daichi could barely blink before the metal struck him in the head with a resounding ring.

Darkness clouded his vision. The pole pushed him backward, forcing him onto his back on the hardwood floor. Daichi, not one to typically register pain, let out a soft grunt on the impact. The synthetic fibers twisted in his head, gears jolted in his torso, and a high pitched whining filled his mind, causing weird flashes behind his eyes.

“Are you alright?”

Daichi slowly opened his eyes, seeing three of Mr. Heart leaning over him. The image swirled, sensors unable to process the trauma to his body.

“Yes… I am fine—” he stuttered, words coming out stilted and jumbled. Daichi shook his head, trying to right the tripling of his boss before him.

“We should get him to a hospital,” Carl huffed. The wispy man leaned heavily on the pole now firmly secured in the ground.

That was the worst idea. Every fiber in his body screamed no. “I assure you,” he started, trying to get to his feet but stumbling, “I am fine.” He flashed a bright grin at the two other men, their image still dancing in front of him.

“That’s what I like about you, Daichi, always a trooper.” Mr. Heart let out a hearty laugh and slapped Daichi on the back, who held in a large groan.

[Insert Audience Laughter]

[Black Out]

[Lights Up High School Locker Room]

Koushi pulled on black shorts and a practice jersey in the high school locker room, which smelled of desperation and hormones. He wrinkled his nose, sitting down on the wooden bench to roll his knee pads up, securing them with a satisfied nod. There would be no wood burn today. Not if he could help it.

A strange sense of excitement settled in his stomach, the sound of distant whistle filled his ears. The sting of a volleyball on his forearms lingerd even though he’d yet to play. He could not remember ever stepping foot on a court before, but the actions and the words were familiar, as if he were meant to be there. It was ridiculous.

Koushi let out a sigh, slapping his thighs as he stood and stretching his arms overhead as his husband came barreling into the locker room, jersey on backwards and with a dazed expression.

“Dai?” Koushi dropped his arms and caught Daichi as he stumbled into him. “What’s the matter?” Concern covered Koshi’s handsome features as he stroked Daichi’s cheek.

“Not sure,” Daichi said quickly. “But it’s us. We’re up against Adrian and Howard.” Daichi’s arms seemed to shake at his side even as an odd smile crossed his face.

“Okay— your jersey is on backwards.” Koushi peered around the locker room and gave a quick swish of his hand, righting the jersey. “We got this. There’s no need to be nervous. It’s not like we have to be good anyways, it’s for charity.” He let out a soft chuckle and took Daichi’s hand, pushing away the unsettling feeling that filled him as he watched his husband.

“We are the BEST there IS!” Daichi all but shouted, his voice ringing out on the tile.

Koushi winced and gave a nod. “Yes, the best there is.” If he didn’t know any better he would say Daichi was drunk, but that was impossible. At least he thought so.

“Let’s go then, Suga.”

Suga. Koushi blinked, but was quickly hauled from the locker room by his arm. There was not much he could do now.

The two entered the gymnasium. Voices echoed throughout the large space, becoming louder and louder with each passing minute. Sneaks scraped across the floor, irritatingly startling, but Koushi kept his focus on the net ahead of him and the two men behind it.

Adrian and Howard who looked at him expectantly.

Daichi continued to pull Koushi forward, mumbling nonsense under his breath, but Koushi could only focus on the pounding of his own heart as he readied himself to play this match. A small amount of worry tickled the edge of his mind as they took their spots on opposite their opponents, who wore matching deadly grins.

It was a battle.

Koushi’s face hardened as the referee listed the rules for them. It was not a real match. Only one round and the first to fifteen points would win. This would be easy. After all, it was only for charity. Koushi’s gaze kept darting to his husband who was all out of sorts and to the other team, Adrian and Howard who were laser-focused.

He wanted to end this fast.

They were on the receiving end at the start. Koushi readied himself. Breathing steady. Feet apart. Eyes firmly locked on Adrian, he was stoic and focused. Adrian stared dead ahead, silent and ready as he gave a running leap to serve. Koushi swallowed sharply as the other man’s hand connected with the ball, letting out a resounding crack through the gym

Fuck.

He barely had time to move before Daichi was on the ground trying to keep the ball in the air. Daichi’s limbs flew all over the place, uncoordinated and out of character, but the ball was in the air. Koushi ran to set the ball to his husband only for Daichi to collide with the net. The crowd let out a gasp, but the game went on.

Koushi could barely hold on as he covered two positions and tried to keep his husband afloat with only his own will. Point after point was scored against them, Howard jumping up with surprising agility for someone of his stature. Each time the ball struck the court, Koushi became more and more riled up. He couldn’t lose this. They couldn’t lose this. They needed to prove themselves. They deserved this win to make a home.

Letting out a slow breath, Koushi extended his abilities until he was practically weightless and could rush to any side of the court, gravity no longer seemed to touch him even as his feet connected with the ground. He willed Daichi to move and if Daichi couldn’t get to the ball, Koushi made sure the ball made it to him. A quick flick of the wrist could send anything Daichi’s way. Instincts made him search for what was making Daichi erratic. Even as they continued to play, Koushi could see it in his mind, as he kept track of everyone in the gym, a wire was loose in Daichi’s head. With another purposeful flick of his wrist the connection was corrected. Daichi stared at his husband, eyes glittering with comprehension.

They could make up the points.

They could win. They could do it.

[Black Out]

[Lights Up on Living Room]

The couple returned home, arm in arm, cradling their newly acquired trophy which now had a space on the shelf next to all their family photos. Frames were filled with countless photos of their shared lives and some sat empty waiting to be filled by the couple and any memories that they might share together.

“That was certainly eventful,” Daichi commented, his head resting in Koushi’s lap. His lips quirked in a smile as he stared up in adoration at the man he loved.

“It really was.” Amusement filled Koushi’s voice. He gently stroked Daichi’s head, tracing the lines on his synthetic skin. “Lots of kids there today.”

Daichi hummed in response, catching Koushi’s hand and pressing a kiss to his fingers. “There were. I liked being around them when I was back to being myself.”

Silence filled the space between the two. Koushi chewed on the inside of his cheek and his eyes flicked about as he considered how to continue their conversation. Countless children filled the stands at the volleyball match cheering them on. Their joyful screams seemed to lighten his heart, and when he saw Daichi with them after the game— well he felt certain that kids were not out of the question.

“I think it would be nice to have some of our own don’t you think?” Daichi commented, tilting his head up to Koushi.

Koushi’s brows shot up to his hairline. “Are you sure?”

The synthezoid sat up, turning to face his husband and taking his hands. He wore a warm and sweet smile. “Yes, darling. I am. Filling our home with laughter and little footsteps? I think that is exactly what we need.”

“Oh, Dai.” Koushi’s face lit up with a wide grin that wobbled at the thought of them having their own family. “There’s paperwork to fill out and adoption agencies to consult. We’ll have to start a nursery or just kids rooms.” He rattled on about all the preparations they would need to make if and when they had children becoming a part of their family, but Daichi cut him off with a sweet kiss.

“For now let’s just—”

A resounding crash came from outside their home.

The couple rose to their feets, hearts pounding in their chests.

“If it’s that tree again I swear I will cut it down myself,” Koushi exclaimed, stomping out the front door and to the street. Daichi quickly followed after him.

Flashing light illuminated the front of their house in the dark summer night. A car sat on its side, the turn-signal still activated, but there was no alarm. No cries for help and no sirens. Simply an overturned car.

“Koushi… look.” Daichi took Koushi’s hand and pointed down the road. There was some alarm in his voice.

Koushi steeled himself, closing his eyes to prepare for whatever horror he might see. Slowly, he turned to follow Daichi’s finger. His mouth turned dry. A lone figure stood in the middle of the road, staring directly at the couple. It raised it’s hand to point back at them slowly advancing toward them.

Panic seized in Koushi’s gut.

It’s too soon.

“No,” Koushi whispered in a panic.

[ROLLING]

“Oh, Dai.” Koushi’s face lit up with a wide grin that wobbled at the thought of them having their own family. “There’s paperwork to fill out and adoption agencies to consult. We’ll have to start a nursery or just kids rooms.” He rattled on about all the preparations they would need to make if and when they had children becoming a part of their family, but Daichi cut him off with a sweet kiss.

“For now, let’s just get some rest,” Daichi chuckled. He gently caressed his husband’s fair and unmarred skin. “Tomorrow we will make a plan.”

The trail that Daichi traced on Koushi’s skin left a trail of pink in its wake. Daichi’s eyes widened, flashing brown as color slowly returned to them. He stared at his fingers, which turned a muted orange, and then looked to Koushi’s hair which shifted to a vibrant silver. Catching a few strands between his fingers, he let out a small huff of laughter.

“Would you look at that,” he murmured.

Koushi’s hazel eyes searched Daichi’s face. “Hm?” He watched the color seeping into their surroundings and bringing their living room to life.

“Just as beautiful as the day I first met you.”
