You're Going to Have to Learn how to Change
"Stars looked sad the day you became mine. As it was you, for whom brighter was their shine." --Author Unknown
Thor had left Loki and his children in a Midgardian park.
Loki was considering running. He knew that Thor was going to the Avengers, and he knew that the Avengers were the last warriors in the nine realms who would offer him protection.
Hel, Fenrir, Jörmungandr, Vali, Narfi, and Sleipnir had been glamoured to look like Midgardian children. Unlike the rest of the children at the park, they did not attempt to play.
Loki had also glamoured himself, but he felt as if everyone was watching him.
“Oma, what is that?” Fenrir asked.
Loki peered his eyes at what Fen was pointing at. “I believe it is a slide.”
“M-May I slide?” Fen asked.
Loki hesitated. “You may, but please do not wander far.”
“Yes, Oma.” Fenrir scampered over to the slide.
His siblings watched him with wide eyes.
Loki was terrified of letting them go, but they had been caged their entire lives. “You may play, my stars.” He watched with some dread as all but Sleipnir began to play.
Sleipnir was content to sleep in his arms.
Loki’s eyes welled with tears.
“Are you alright?” A terrifyingly familiar voice asked.
Loki tensed as he looked up at Captain America.
The Alpha looked at him with such concern, but then again, he didn’t recognize Loki.
“I-It’s been a trying week,” Loki managed.
Captain America frowned. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
Loki was about to say something, anything to make him leave when he heard a scream. Loki was on his feet before he even realized what he was doing.
Narfi had fallen off the slide. His knee was scraped and bleeding. “Oma!”
Loki cursed that he only had two arms.
“Um, I can hold your baby,” Captain America offered.
Loki looked up at the Alpha fearfully.
“I’m good with babies,” Captain America assured. He held Sleipnir carefully.
Loki looked over Narfi. He wished he could use his magic—
“Is he ok?” Vali asked.
Hel and Fenrir looked at Loki with wide eyes.
Jö started crying.
Captain America looked at the terrified Omega and pups and had to do something. “How bout I take you all to lunch? There’s a real good diner over there, and I’ll even get you guys ice cream.”
The children looked at the stranger warily. They looked to Loki for assurance.
Loki nodded. He knew that if Captain America knew who he really was he would not be so kind, but he also knew that Captain America was a hero.
He was capable of protecting Loki but more importantly, he could protect his pups.
