Chapter 26
"He's going to do what now?" You ask as you stare at her after you'd essentially burst through the front doors of the Avengers headquarters and forced your way up to her office. "He's going...to manipulate time..." She begins but you quickly wave your hand as if to tell her to shush and say, "I heard you the first time! I cannot believe that he would be this stupid!" You begin to pace back and forth. The only solution you can come up with is to go to him yourself and break the bond with him. The alternative would be him manipulating time to the point where no one living or dead would know the consequences. "I need you to tell me where he's gone." You say in a deathly serious tone. While Helen might be a genius when it comes to the field of science and reconstructing people from the brink of death, she was nothing more than a newborn baby when it came to the science of time.
"No. I'm done being the go between for you two! I've never seen two people more stubborn in my life! You're both in love with each other and you need to figure that out before it drives the Avengers apart!" Helen yells as she turns quickly to face you just as she gets to the door. "You think he's stupid for trying to mess with time, he thinks you're stupid for not messing with time and just letting this happen, and I think you're both stupid for not sitting down and talking this out before now!" You glare at her as she ends her rant then growl, "I'm sorry but maybe you weren't made aware but he was shacked up with the woman that held me captive for seventy two hours straight and tortured me the entire time because she was jealous that I had taken her man. So no. I won't be talking anything out. I'm going to find him and I'm going to make him see that this is never going to work. I'm not his omega and I never will be. Ever."
She gasps and goes to say something but you're already through the door. You were tired of everyone trying to tell you what you should do about this situation. You were also tired of the tears and the night terrors that kept you up for weeks on end until you could get ahold of more suppressants. You had just pressed the down button on the elevator at the end of your hall way when the doors opened and you came face to face with none other than the man you had set out to see. "Omega." Stephen says softly and you instantly glare at him. "I am not your omega, Strange. I don't know what you and Loki did to me in your basement, but I don't appreciate it. We're going to the labs in Avengers Tower as of right now so that I can break our bond in front of them. And so help me if you fuck with time to get me to stay with you I will never forgive you as long as I live. And trust me, I've got a USB drive hidden with encrypted messages for my future or past self to find with all your dirty secrets on them. So good luck trying any Time Magic." You hiss as you turn and stomp towards the stair case on the opposite end of the hallway.
You didn't see because you'd stormed off too quickly but Stephen had turned a pale grey shade when you told him you were going to break the bond that tied the two of you together. If the roles were reversed he knew that you'd be a howling, sobbing mess on the floor. But he was an Alpha and he had to keep his composure as best he could, even though being rejected by his mate technically made him a beta now. "(Y/N), please listen to me, my love. We...We can talk through this!" He said letting his emotions into his voice as he ran after you. "There's nothing to talk about. You chose her over me. You left me in the most vulnerable state after you used me and then you had the audacity to parade around New York City with her on your arm at every Avengers charity and gala. You never once apologized! You never once came to check on me! You never once acted like you cared because you never did, Strange! I was nothing more than a random fling! Just another notch in your belt eh?" You scream at from inside the stairwell as your tears once again betrayed you and began to flow down your face.
"I did check on you." He says quietly. "What?" You hiccup as you hastily wipe away your tears. "Every time you went to get suppressants I would follow to make sure that you stayed safe. Every time you finally got sleep, I watched over you. I even made sure that you got enough food." He says as he looks down at his feet almost ashamed of himself. "So you stalked me and BROKE INTO MY HOUSE?!" You hiss as you take a step back from him. "What part of this aren't you understanding?! You literally violated my trust and then my privacy and you think some archaic fucked up omega law is going to make me stay with you? NO! FUCK YOU AND YOUR RULES AND FUCK OFF!" You yell as you slam the door and quickly lock it as he begins to stride towards you. You can hear him behind the door trying to get through and you waste no time in sprinting down the stairs to the ground floor. You know he'll just follow in the elevator but he doesn't know all the shortcuts to the Tower that you do.
As soon as you're out the door you dart down the alleyway to the right of your building and sprint as hard as you can down it. You count the seconds in your head and realize that he's bound to have exited the building at this point and you still don't have any suppressants in your system so you'll basically be leading him straight to all of your hideouts. Unless you can mask your scent that is. You absolutely hate the thought of having to do what you're about to but you know that it'll work in the end. You quickly hop the short chain link fence at the end of the alleyway and darted into a nearby hunting store. "I need to know where your pine spray is." You ask as you lean on your knees to catch your breath. The old man behind the counter eyes you cautiously before he jerks his head towards an aisle near the back. "Thanks, my pops and brother is going hunting and they forgot their scent masking spray." You say as you walk towards the aisle and the old man nods in an understanding way. You quickly turn down the aisle and almost sob in relief when you find the small bottle and looking around to make sure no one sees you open the bottle in the very back of the shelf and put some on your pulse points. Immediately the scent of pine permeates the aisle and you smile knowing that Stephen will have a hell of a time trying to find you now.
You grab the small bottle in the front and as you as you get to the counter the man looks up bewildered at the pine freshness he's now smelling and you quickly say, "One of the safety wraps on one of the bottles was already open when I picked it up. Guess I'll be smelling like pine for the next few days." The man nods and rings you up and you throw a five dollar bill on the counter. "Keep the change!" You call as you sprint out the door and damn near swallow your tongue as you do. In the middle of the busy street, with cars honking all around him, is a pissed off Stephen and his eyes have gone completely blood red. "I know you're here, omega! I can't smell you anymore but I haven't seen you leave yet!" He growls and you immediately sneak into the shop to the left of the hunting store and try and contain your tears. What the hell are you supposed to do when there's a mad Alpha standing in the literal middle of the street screaming for you.
