The Hotel
Phillip went back to the hotel with Kate the next day, with orders to be very careful. Yes he has super healing which allowed him to be released from the hospital so quickly, but even so, not being able to use that healing for over a year made certain aspects of that power weak.
Hence why he was now sporting a black cast on his right arm and an intense knee brace on his left knee.
He was frustrated, there’s no doubt about it, but his injuries allowed him to remain on the tour with Kate because she had to look after him. Plus, they had a lot of catching up to do.
So there they were, walking into the hotel with their friends and Aunt May trailing behind. They all had to return to America, the Avengers for missions and May for work, so they weren’t wasting any time with Phillip.
The time for goodbye came as Phillip and Kate received their keys to the hotel room and tears were shed.
”You text us every day with updates or I will have to come back.” Yelena warned the pair as she hugged them. “I need videos of Kate Bishop singing, Spidey. Or should I call her Kate Parker now. That doesn’t sound as cool.”
Phillip rolled his eyes good-naturedly as he hugged the blonde assassin. “Every performance will be taped, I swear. And don’t make fun of my last name Belova.”
Satisfied with that answer, Yelena stepped back, allowing for the Maximoff twins and Shang-chi to say their quick goodbyes. Once done with Phillip the whole group stepped back, giving May and Peter room to say goodbye.
Kate leaned against Pietro as she watched the tearful goodbye amongst her fiancé and future in-laws. She wished she was that close with her family. Well, now she’s got a second chance.
”Call me every day Phillip Richard Parker.” May demand, hands grabbing her nephews face to force him to look at her. “I went a year and a half without communication and I’m not doing that again. I’m going to get time off work and I’m going to bring Petey back over here with me in a couple of weeks, okay.”
All Phillip could do was grin, teary eyed. He had missed his family so much and the fact that they could be back in his life, it almost felt unreal.
”I swear I’ll call, May.” He finally said, pulling his face out of May’s hands to get a good look at his little brother. He grabbed the teenager and pulled him in for a hug. “I’ll call both of you.”
Peter clung to his older brother longer than needed, but it was understandable. He hated being an only child and was ready to have his big bro back to help him navigate his way through life, especially now that he was about to go off to MIT and had to figure out how to balance that with the life of an Avenger. Needless to say, Phillip—the self proclaimed ‘put together’ one—being back was a godsend in more ways than one.
The group departed after their goodbyes, leaving Phillip and Kate to settle in. Phillip found himself slightly behind Kate due to his knee as they walked. It was a small but frustrating detail that reminded him of what had happened. He knew he’d have to talk about it eventually, but he wasn’t ready. It was still too raw and still so confusing.
2203
Those letters stared at him as if a glimmer of hope when they arrived at the door. The sheer fact that this was their room only reminded him that he was back, he was with Kate, and they were engaged.
”Welcome back!” The cheers of the Barden Bellas greeted them as the entered the room. Kate dropped her bag with a grin as she was pulled into various hugs from her Bella sisters.
”Damn girl, he’s hotter up close.” Fat Amy exclaimed, noticing Phillip still standing by the now closed door.
Kate grabbed his hand and carefully pulled him farther into the room. “This is Phillip.”
He waved to the group of girls with a lopsided grin. He noticed a few of them looking him up and down, but he could tell that none of them meant anything by it.
”Are you sure you don’t want to share?” Aubrey teased Kate, nudging her shoulder.
The archer just scoffed. “Aubrey you’re gay.”
The blonde shrugged. “But he’s a cutie.”
Phillip just laid himself on the bed, enjoying watching Kate interact with a people who didn’t know how to kill someone a hundred different ways with only a spoon.
The Bellas immediately sat Kate down and began firing even more questions at her, which she tried to answer. Phillip watched her carefully, reacquainting himself with her features. She had a new scar across the bridge of her nose. No one but someone in their line of work would notice, but it was still there. His mind wandered to all of the possibilities that could’ve caused this scar. He was probably being crazy, Lucky could’ve gotten too excited and accidentally scratched her. But there was always a possibility that it was a more dangerous story. He should’ve been there.
”Legacy! What is that!” Chloe cried out, grabbing Kate’s left hand and examining the ring. Phillip shook his head, coming back to the present.
Kate couldn’t help but grin, her cheeks turning slightly pink. “As of yesterday, Phillip and I are engaged.”
The Bellas squealed and all admired the beautiful ring. Phillips heart swelled with pride upon seeing the ring his mother once wore be admired. He just knew she was smiling down on them.
Kate leaned against the bed, her hand coming up to grab Phillips. He squeezed her hand to remind her that he was there and not going anywhere.
Fat Amy got up, pointing to the entire group. “We need to celebrate. Now.”
Kate chuckled and Phillip could read her like a book. She was tired, exhausted from the last 48 hours.
”How about tomorrow.” He suggested. “I promise I’ll buy the first two rounds if we celebrate tomorrow. I think Kate is a little tired.”
Fat Amy groaned, disappointed with the delay. “Fine but I’m holding you to that spider boy.”
”Spider-Man.” He quickly corrected. “Spider-Boy is my brother.”
”Of course, how silly of me.” Amy scoffed. Phillip raised his eyebrows and leaned back, his arms behind his head.
”I accept you apology.” He smirked. Kate shook her head with a grin. Same old Phillip.
Beca glanced between the newly engaged couple. “We’ll leave you to it.” She said awkwardly as she stood up, Taking Chloe’s hand and helping her up as well.
The Bellas filed out quickly, Chloe throwing a “Use protection!” Over her shoulder as she left, Beca dragging her out.
Once the door closed and the Bellas had left, Phillip rolled his eyes. “Use protection.”He scoffed.
Kate giggled and Phillip felt ready to die on the spot, content with that being the last thing he would ever hear.
”I feel like this is some cruel dream.” Kate admitted, sitting on the bed next to her fiancé. “Are you real?” She asked, voice barely above a whisper as she ran her fingers lightly over his profile.
Gently, he turned his head, her hand coming to rest on her cheek. “I’m real.” He spoke, barely louder than she had. “I’m real and I’m not going anywhere.”
Suddenly her lips were on his. It wasn’t a frenzied kiss like most of their kisses had been since he returned. It was slow, soft, a perfect expression of her love for him. He smiled against her lips, tasting the distinct vanilla of her favorite chapstick.
She leaned her forehead against his, her breath ghosting his lips as her fingers traced his jawline.
They were going to be okay.
