Chapter 1

You pushed the doors into the lecture hall open slowly, taking in a deep breath as you did so. It was your first day at a new college after switching your major to nuclear science and you we’re already extremely behind schedule the whole day. Your face burned a bright red as you stepped foot into the room, everyone had their eyes on you. Your stomach twisted into knots, you hated this feeling. You quickly looked around to find a seat and as you began you found one and began to sit down a loud voice boomed your way.

“Miss, are you new?” The voice called, your head quickly shot up to the direction of where it had come from. It came from the man in the front of the room, presumably the professor. He had messy dark hair, a large frame, and intimidating eyes. He wore a red turtleneck which hugged his body. He was dreamy. He cleared his throat after a few seconds of you not responding, to which you gave a small nod, quickly sitting down. You could feel your face burn, incredibly embarrassed by the situation, had you really been staring at him that much? “Okay, make sure you see me after class.” The way he said it seemed more of a demand rather than a suggestion.

You didn’t give a response this time, no nod or anything. You paid close attention to what was learned that day though, not wanting to miss a single thing, feeling as if you we’re to get a singular bad grade in this course, you were doomed. You always had the worst mind set when it came to school or really anything for that matter. Just never having been a positive mindset kind of person.

When the class came to an end, you packed up slowly, not wanting any other people to hear your interaction that would happen with the professor. Once there were only two more people in the class, you stood from your seat and walked down to the professor. You held your breath, wondering if you’d be in trouble for one, showing up late and two, barging in while he was teaching. Your old professor was very understanding so you only hoped this one would be as well. When you got to the front of his desk, you gave him a small, shy smile.

He gave a soft smile back, holding his hand out to you. “I’m Doctor Otto Octavius,” He said, connecting hands with you and shaking it firmly, “I’m sure you may be a little confused considering you did join this course a little later than the others. I can schedule office hours after class for us to meet and I can teach you what you missed.” You caught him looking at you up and down, you couldn’t help but blush at the realization, only being able to nod in response.

“Shy, aren’t you, darling?” His head cocked to the side a bit, this caused your heart to skip a bit, staring into his dark eyes. “I-I’m sorry, I just, I don’t… I don’t talk a lot.” You shuttered out, God you felt stupid. You mentally facepalmed, why did you act the way you did? It was a question you could almost never answer. He chuckled, a sound you found so heartwarming. “It’s okay, I understand. I used to be the same way, it’s just something you gotta grow out of one day, darling.” He took a seat back at his desk. You focused on what he was doing, he was drawing blueprints out for something and it caught your interest.

“What is that for? If I’m allowed to know.” You asked, very curious as to what he was drawing, they looked like tentacles. “It’s a project I’m working on. This is a smaller portion to the bigger part of the project. They’re tentacles technically, they will help me hold what will be almost like a miniature sun.” His eyes turned their focus up to your eyes, God he was absolutely stunning. “That’s cool,” You smiled, “As dumb as this sounds, you seem really intellegent.” You rubbed the back of your neck, just trying to find something to talk about. You wanted to know more about the man that sat in front of you. “I wouldn’t be your professor if I wasn’t, now would I, darling?” A smirk crawled onto his face, eyes dropping back down to his blueprints.

Your heart felt like it was pounding at a hundred miles per hour at his words, was he flirting with you? You shook your head in response to his question, as rhetorical as it was, you still felt the need to answer him. You wanted to stay to watch the man more but you couldn’t bring yourself to be in his presence, almost feeling as if it was a sin to be a man such as him. “Well I’m gonna go, y’know.” You said, once again, mentally facepalming at how you spoke to him. He only nodded and waved his hand at you, dismissing you. You spun on your heels and quickly headed out, gripping onto the handles of your backpack.

Luckily, Octavius’ class was the last you had that day. You headed outside, groaning when you saw the rain that was falling. Not only was it raining but it was freezing, it being mid-fall in New York City. You had walked to the school this morning without bringing anything to cover up with, having trusted the forecast a little too much. You began your ten minute walk back to the apartment building you resided in. When you arrived, you were cold to the core and absolutely drenched. You took the elevator up to your room. You headed in and got a warm shower immediately.

While you showered, thoughts of Octavius kept creeping their way back into your mind. There was just something about him that you had never seen in another person. He was, as cliche as it sounded, dark and mysterious. He had that mad scientist vibe that you always saw in the movies. He was just charming. You dried off and threw a hoodie and soft pajama pants on to get comfy. You settled into bed, it having been a long day, you just wanted to get to sleep. As you began to drift off, more thoughts of Otto filled your head. You wanted him and you didn’t know why.

You were going to make it your mission to make that man your own, no matter what it took.
