Chapter 12
Dread strikes your heart like lightning, and you feel your face go pale. Bill smirks at you, looking down at Otto, then back up at you.
“Oh, him? OF COURSE you’d be worried about him, Y/N.”
“What? Bill, what happened?” you cry. You hurry over to the graveyard fence, desperately hoping that Otto will sit up, that this is all some kind of sick joke. But still he dangles limply, flopping as Bill’s horse walks.
“I imagine he hasn’t been able to meet up recently, no?” taunts Bill. The dread in your heart intensifies, and you feel tears well up in your eyes.
“What are you talking about,” you say softly, furiously swiping at your tears. “Bill…”
“What, Y/N, you don’t think it’s obvious? You think I didn’t see the way he looked at you, and how you looked at him? And when you rejected me, it was because of HIM, wasn’t it?” Bill’s expression has gone from cool and calculated to pinched with anger, and his fists are balled at his side.
“No!” you cry as Bill lashes out, kicking Otto in the head. You scream, but Otto doesn't respond. He's still completely limp, almost lifeless. Now you can’t help the tears coming, they roll down your face unabashedly, and you choke out a sob. “Bill, why would you do this?” He laughs cruelly.
“I think you know why. You aren’t as stupid as you pretend to be.”
“Bill?” you whimper. He rolls his eyes.
“Ok, I’ll spell it out for you if you insist, Y/N. I wanted you to marry me, Y/N. You’re the prettiest unwed woman in town, and you’d be the only suitable partner for a man of my stature. It was going to work, and then HE got in the way. I saw the way he looked at you, and it enraged me. To think that he would defile you and that you’d let him…”
“That’s isn’t what happened!” you cry. “Bill, I was NEVER going to marry you, and I never will!”
“Well you’ll never marry him either,” laughs Bill. “He’s dead.”
