Baby sisters are troublesome
She could faintly hear Karun talking and asking her about her day at school. And honestly, she felt kinda bad for answering with a mere hmm or a grunt, but she was beyond exhausted. Her class had decided on this ‘school activity’ of cleaning their school and keeping the environment healthy.
She and her classmates had spent the entire day picking up trash from one end of the school to the other. All of this, combined with the lack of breaks, made her feet feel non-existent.
She was more than relieved when the bell rang and Karun arrived to pick her up. He had apologized on Kingo’s behalf for not being there and made sure that Kingo would be at home later on. She told him not to mind and that it was okay even if he wasn’t. She didn't understand why he had to apologize when she knew just because Kingo was her legal guardian didn’t mean they were going to be together all the time. Besides, it gave her time to adjust to the new human life.
She had rested her head against the car window for the span of the trip. The background noises of Karun's voice and the car radio were gradually washed away.
Kingo had planned to pick up Sprite from school, but business called, and once he was engrossed in his work and passion, he forgot about everything else.
Only realizing the time after his last fitting, he quickly called Karun to pick her up instead, since the man was closer to Sprite’s school and he didn’t want her to have to wait long. Fortunately, where he was now wasn't that far from home, and if he left now, he might arrive home at the same time as them, if not earlier.
He might have sped through a few red lights, but it was worth it. He knew even if Sprite never showed or never had the guts to say it, that she loved talking about her human life. To anyone who would listen. Even if she said her classes were boring or too easy, it wouldn’t stop her from babbling about them the whole evening. After everything that happened after the emergence, Kingo noticed that she really wanted to talk more with whatever was left of their small family. Most of the time she wouldn’t get the chance because they were busy or in another time zone. Sprite would say she was fine and dismiss every apology sent her way, but she should know that the other Eternals knew her better than that.
He stood up from his seat on the front porch as he noticed Karun's car approaching. The man himself was greeting him cheerfully as usual. When no ginger-haired 5-foot figure emerged from the car, Kingo got worried.
“Where’s Sprite?”
Karun moved his hand in a shushing motion and pointed to the back seat. “Don’t worry sir, she’s just asleep. I think she had a very busy day.”
Kingo walked around to the side of the car door, tempted to pull out his phone and take a picture of Sprite's face, which was pressed against the car window. Before he could think twice, he snapped a quick photo and handed over his phone to Karun.
He decided the best way to get Sprite out of the car was just to open the door. Hopefully, he was fast enough to catch her before she fell face-first onto the pavement. He could get her from the other side but getting her out that way would be too troublesome.
In the end, he figured out the best way by making Karun enter from the other side of the door and lift Sprite’s head while he opened this one. The ginger must have been very tired since she didn’t even move once while all that happened. When he made sure his arms would catch her form, he told Karin to let her go gently.
Sprite stirred a bit as he made to stand up, but she didn’t wake.
With the little troublesome brat he called his sister secured in his arms he strode towards the house. Karun followed closely behind.
He guessed the storytelling will have to wait.
