The Beginning

Year 1998

You heard the doctor call your name. Well, he's your father, not that you know it. He never treat nor look at you like you're his own so you just refer him as the doctor. To him, you're just a science experiment, a lab rat.

Looking up from the floor you're sprawled at with your coloring materials, you saw the doctor approach your cell with a scowl on his face. You don't understand a lot of things yet because you're just a five year old kid, but you already knew if the doctor has a scowl on his face, it means that you'll be screaming in agony all day strapped on the bed.

You start getting up, not wanting to upset the doctor even more. After he opened the cell you're in, the doctor approached and grabbed your little hand leading you out towards his lab.

It's all normal for you. Ever since the day you were born, this is the life you grew up into. You don't even know the existence of the world outside the lab.

You let the doctor settle you on the bed, then straps you and attaches the wires you're already accustomed to. On his final adjustments, he motioned you to open your mouth, knowing what exactly it is that he is going to put, you bit firmly into the cloth in attempt to muffle your screams in the procedure later.

Taking a deep breath that your little lungs could get, you closed your eyes and wait for the moment to be over.

Year 2003

The doctor will never be satisfied even after years and years of experimenting and inflicting pain upon you. You won't and never will understand all of this. You just follow him blindly.

From various experiments over the years, he started training your physical abilities when you turned 7. At first, he trains you personally then he made machines that you could practice at. He made you memorize and master the different fighting styles he showed to you.

He pushes you to your limit every day because he knows that you will just do fine. You developed a super healing ability when he tested the serum he experimented on.

You're accustomed to the pain so the bruises and injury you get doesn't bother you at all. It's normal, you think. Pain is part of your life. Pain is the only thing you really know.

Today is your birthday. You're turning 10. You don't know and understand the concept of birthday so you refer this day only as a special day. You've been counting days to know this is the special day.

Even though the doctor doesn't bat you an eyelash after training and experimenting you, he acknowledges your birthday by giving you a cupcake.

You always look forward to this day because you get to eat your favorite food. Not that you have many choices between the grey and dehydrated food that the doctor makes you eat every day.

After training, you went to the doctor's lab and as expected there's a cupcake waiting for you.

"Here. Go to your room and study this," the doctor gave you some kind of a medical book after you got your cupcake.

You nod timidly then you go back to your room to study and eat your cupcake in peace. You don't stay in a cell anymore because the doctor is confident he have complete control over you and besides, the whole facility is underground.

Biting to your cupcake, you start reading the book and do as you were told.

Year 2005

You were punching and dodging the attacks of the machines when the doctor called for you. You obediently stopped the training and follow after him.

You didn't expect a live fluffy rabbit being presented to you by the doctor. Not knowing what to do, the doctor ushered you to take the rabbit.

"I want you to take care of this fella," carefully, you managed to hold the rabbit in your arm. You've never seen an actual live animal in your life, only on some of the textbooks and videos.

Life in the lab is the only life you know so you never dwell on your curiosity of the outside world. Until today, with the rabbit in your arms, your mind wondered about the things you missed outside of this world.

You took this task as an assignment. You take care, feed and sometimes play with the rabbit after all your trainings. There's a budding emotion in you that you've never felt before whenever you spend your time with the rabbit.

You didn't notice the doctor at your door as you pet the rabbit lovingly. You have this lazy smile and you feel a warm sensation settled on your chest as you continue to pet your rabbit.

"I didn't expect for you to be capable of feeling happiness – or any other emotions aside from anguish," the doctor mused at you.

"H-happiness...?" you tilted your head. Not understanding what the doctor meant by his statement.

The doctor did not add anything after that and let you be.

Or that's what you thought.

He called you later and ordered you to bring the rabbit with you. Not knowing the real intentions of the doctor, you go after him cradling the rabbit in your arms.

As you entered the room that the doctor was in, you eyed the piece of weapon on the table. You recognized it as a gun.

"Put the rabbit on the floor and come here," the doctor ordered.

For the first time, you were unsure but when you looked at the doctor, your uncertainty vanished because he sported a stern look that makes your stomach churn. You obeyed him.

He motioned you to take the gun. You grabbed it and firmly held the gun but still unsure on what to do with it.

"Now, I want you to aim this to your little friend. Pull the trigger when I say so," he took your arm with the gun and aimed at your rabbit.

"B-but...why?" the gun you held felt heavier than before. You feel a lump in your throat and feel like throwing up.

"Don't question it. Do it." He grabbed your shoulder firmly as if warning you that worse things will happen when you disobeyed him.

With a heavy heart, shakily you held the gun aimed at the rabbit you came to care after weeks of being together. You can't do anything except to follow his orders.

Seconds felt like hours when you pulled the trigger. The place where the rabbit was is decorated in its blood and splattered flesh.

"Good. From now on, get used to this feeling. Do not question me ever again." His words dug deep into your skull. "Engrave this on your little brain, do not get attach."

You could only nod as you stared void with any emotions at once was your friend.

He gave you one last order before leaving the room to clean up the mess, and he left you to it without waiting for a response.

You dropped the gun and knelt in front of your dead rabbit. You felt something wet on your cheek so you wiped it inspecting what it was. You don't know that you are silently crying, you've never felt this worse. Even while you're being tortured or experimented on. This sensation was far worse than any other you've experienced.

You place your hand just above the rabbit's body and close your eyes, hoping this is just a nightmare.

You felt a warm tingling sensation in your palm. At first it was barely noticeable, but as the sensation felt stronger, you snapped your eyes open.

The first thing you noticed was your hand is glowing. It scared you, but you stared at it with interest. What you failed to notice was the blood and some of the remnants of the rabbit's flesh seem to combine again.

Once you did, it baffled you but didn't dare to close your hand. You're curious to see what will happen if the action is completed.

After for what seems like a full five minutes, to your surprise, the rabbit is alive once again. You feel like collapsing but you pulled yourself together. The rabbit hopped on your lap and you hugged it feeling like you could burst anytime soon with the amount of emotions spiraling inside you.

Afraid of what might happen if the doctor finds out that the rabbit is alive, you hid the rabbit under your clothes, standing up, you go to your room carefully without alerting the doctor of your actions.

You plan to hide the rabbit in the vent under your bed. Continue to tend to him secretly. Smiling to yourself, contented with your plan, you swore to the rabbit that you will take care of him and make sure that the doctor will never find out about this, about your ability, ever.

Year 2008

You're sent on your first mission after the doctor finally deemed that you are now ready.

As he finished briefing and telling you what your mission is, he gave you your black combat suit, trench coat and a full on mask with a smile on it. You could only execute your mission once the sun goes down and completely dark. The doctor firmly reminded you that the mission should be done before the sun rises.

He had trained you countless of times in the dark, saying that it will enhance every senses while being handicapped with sight. And you succeeded. You've gotten so used to fighting without sight that it's as if you've become a shadow in the dark.

After gearing up, he motioned you to follow him in what seemed to be the garage and get on a heavily tinted black SUV. He'll drive you near your mission's location and wait on you to finish. Or in other words, he's keeping an eye on you.

For the first time in your life, you are going outside of the lab. But you don't have a time to relish and soak it in when the car starts to go to its destination.

"Stick this flash drive on the main computer in that man's office. Annihilate who comes on your way," he reminded once again. "If you don't come back, you know what will happen to you. Right, pet?" he said in a sickly sweet voice.

"Yes, sir." You responded.

You assessed your surroundings, with your favorite curved daggers in both of your hands, you quickly maneuvered inside. You try to avoid any signs of life but one of the guards spotted you. Before he can alert the others, you swiftly sliced his throat.

This is it. Your first kill. This is what you've been forged and trained for. To be a weapon. You do not have the liberty to dwell the heaviness that creeps into your heart.

You drag his body to hide before anyone notices. With your enhanced strength, you broke the doors handle of an empty room.

You managed to get into your target's office without alerting the people inside the building, killing two more guards along the way.

The person behind the desk swerved his chair to face whoever interrupted his phone call. He did not expect to see you of course.

"Who the fu-," with your enhanced speed, you're already behind him to slice his throat before he could finish his sentence.

You stick the flash drive on his computer and it started to do its own task. It's the doctor's doing of course, after all, he mastered anything that is related to technology aside from his various experiments on you.

The computer showed that the task is complete so you ejected the flash drive and secured it inside your suit. Just as you think of a way to escape, the alarms went off. Someone must have spotted their dead comrades.

The lights on the building suddenly cut off. You don't have time to wonder what happened so you find your way to exit. You noticed that there are guards coming your way so you hid in the dark. You plan to wait it out until the guards are out of your way.

What you did not expect is that someone starts attacking the guards. Guns are being fired off everywhere making your presence known by some of the guards near you.

With your skills and daggers, you silently killed off who tries to attack you. You failed to notice the person who attacked the guards has their attention now on you.

This mysterious figure managed to land an attack on your stomach. It took you off-guard because somehow they can manage to keep up on you, dodging your daggers as you fight them in the dark. You just want this to be over without killing anyone anymore so you put on a bit of strength on your punch hoping that it's enough to knock them down.

The person tried to parry your punch, but they weren't expecting it to be so powerful that it knocked them down from a long distance away.

With one last look at the figure, you tilted your head and succumbed in the shadows.

Year 2012

The doctor commended you for your first successful mission. After that day, he sent you on various missions with different objectives.

On some of those missions, you and that mysterious person from that night crossed each other's path again. When you clashed, you were able to glimpse her face through the small streaks of light.

Through the amount of times you've crossed path with her, you've become somewhat accustomed with her skills, particularly those scissor leg moves. You always spare her because you enjoyed your encounters with her. But that doesn't change the fact that, with the exception of her, everyone who gets in your way dies.

The doctor no longer joins you on missions because he is confident in his grip on your throat. Because you don't know how to live outside on your own, you've never considered escaping, and the doctor has skillfully exploited your fears and weaknesses. He either doesn't know or doesn't care about your interactions with your favorite redhead opponent.

You gained some powers throughout the years as a result of the doctor's experiments on you. If you concentrate hard enough, you can move objects with your mind only, create an invisible force barrier around yourself, or project that barrier onto something. Your speed grew, making you appear to teleport as you moved from one area to the next at breakneck speed.

You don't get to use your telekinetic powers on the field because it makes you incredibly tired and you seldom use the barrier if only needed. Your enhanced speed, strength and other senses are enough for you to complete the tasks given.

On one of the missions, you heard someone refer you as The Reaper. Your trademark mask adorned with a smile, along with your daggers terrifies your prey.

⧗──────────────────────────⧗

With a menacing smirk on his face, the doctor approached you while you were training. You hoped the smile wasn't directed towards you and were glad when it wasn't. He has a special mission for you in New York: recover some alien technology and DNA. You get ready for your next mission after his briefing.

⧗ ─────────────────────────⧗

You've succeeded in achieving your goal for a brief period of time. When it's time to flee the scene, you're not surprised by the sudden appearance of the redhead. What surprised you though is that she brought along friends.

"Fancy seeing you here Reaper, didn't expect you to have an interest with those things," she mused at you as she positioned in her fighting stance.

"So this is the famous Reaper that's been kicking your ass for years," a machine-like figure appeared readying his attack at you.

"Careful Stark, I'll beat your own after this."

"Give us back the tesseract, and we'll go easy on you," a man in an American flag suit and shield ordered you.

You tilted your head at them, amused that they believe their combined forces can easily defeat you.

You sensed a danger coming your way, moving your head to the side, an arrow whipped past at you and you caught it right in its arrowhead. You didn't know it would explode but you heard a beeping noise and a tiny explosion occurred in your hand.

The explosion doesn't hurt you a bit and the burn in your hand is already healing on its own. You tossed it to the side and directed your head at the direction of the arrow earlier.

"I think I just peed a little," you heard the archer say, thanks to your super hearing ability.

You grabbed the case with the things you needed and in a blink of an eye, you're in front of the man with shield and kicked his shield pretty hard.

Surprised by your attack, the man stumbled and fell on the ground. You felt an electrocution on your neck so you grabbed the offending object then threw it while looking at the redhead.

"Seriously?! I just got these upgraded and it still doesn't have an effect on you?"

You avoided a blast from your right and continued to dodge their attacks on you as you plan to tire them out first. They're different from those agents you've disseminated before, you concluded. They are quite enhanced, too but you are much stronger, faster and powerful than all of them combined.

"Shit! It's like we're up against a shadow. Cap? Any plan in mind?" a robotic voice said.

"Not at the moment! Just don't get killed!"

"Wow, great plan Cap!"

You observed them for a little longer then decided it's time to stop this game. You're only gonna knock them out if possible because it seems that they are difficult to annihilate unlike any others.

You manage to knock the archer, throw the man of shield across the building, and slam the machine on the concrete when you get ahold of his foot. Seeing her comrades down, the redhead tries to run towards you.

You focused your attention at her and decided to use your telekinesis. You rendered her immobile and made her stay on her ground.

"W-wha-t..." you caught a glimpse of fear flash across her face.

"STAND DOWN"

For the first time, you mustered your voice to command the redhead. You don't want to hurt anyone. You never did. Seeing the flash of fear on the redhead's face made your stomach coil. It's an unpleasant feeling that you will never get used to.

You take a step back and began to dissolve in the dark, leaving the redhead and her friends behind.
