The Garden
The Benatar was leaving Earth, followed by a Wakandan spacecraft. The two ships passed each other in space.
Flash, Cisco, Nora stood with the Guardians of the Galaxy, along with Alex, J'onn, Bucky, Sam, Wanda, Yelena, Spider-Man and Rene. The others were with Black Panther and Shuri, aboard the Wakanda ship.
Star-Lord steered his ship:
"Watch out, guys! This is going to shake! Hold on! Approaching jump in 3… 2… 1…"
The ship jumped into a wormhole and everyone clung to their seats as the spacecraft raced forward, followed by the Wakandan ship.
As soon as they passed through the portal into space, the two ships cut into each other and drifted into space.
"Wow! It was like Star Wars," exclaimed Spider-Man ecstatically.
"Focus, kid!" Sam told him authoritatively.
Yelena couldn't say how long the trip had taken. One o'clock? A few minutes? A few seconds?
A quick glance in the cockpit showed her that her colleagues were as lost as she was. Through the glass roof, she spotted the planet in the garden. The ships orbited above this world. She hoped she could capture this Thanos and bring Natasha back.
In the Wakandan ship, Shuri, who was in command, sailed the spaceship around the planet, surveying the world below.
"I detect no trace of technology," she announced. "No satellites, no ships, no armies, no ground defenses of any kind. Apparently he is alone."
"So there are enough of us to take his Gauntlet," Bucky replied.
"That's good enough," said Alex.
"We can't afford to fail," added Flash categorically. "We must succeed. For Oliver. For Kara. For all those who are no longer here."
"We will get there, "declared Black Panther to the Wakandan ship.
"Here we go," Star-Lord said as he maneuvered his ship towards the planet.
On the planet "the Garden", Thanos walked among the vegetation, picked up the fruits he found and took them to his place of residence.
He was quietly cooking when a dull noise caught his attention. Suddenly, a reddish psionic beam appeared out of nowhere and struck the Titan. The latter protected himself with his damaged Gauntlet, then Wanda rushed straight at him, hitting him.
"You took everything from me!" she spat at him angrily.
Star-Lord arrived in turn, his helmet on his head as he fired several bursts of blaster at him. The leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy had rage in him.
Next came Flash and Nora who attacked the Titan at superspeed, hitting him in multiple spots. J'onn J'onzz appeared out of nowhere in his Martian form and attacked Thanos. The two aliens fought hand to hand. Then Thanos managed to repel the Martian, and was attacked by Wanda who used her powers to freeze him like a statue.
Spider-Man appears in turn, and makes appear the web which imprisoned the Titan. Sam arrived through the air, and drew her weapons in front of the evil monster. Drax rushed in, drawing his swords.
"THANOS!"
He screamed in rage and attacked the Titan with his swords. Taking advantage that he was immobilized, Drax cut off his left arm which contained the Infinity Gauntlet.
Thanos felt immense pain.
T'Challa, Alex, Yelena, Bucky, Cisco, Rene, Dinah and Mantis rushed inside the hut, followed by Groot.
Alex, Yelena, and Bucky brandished their weapons at the one-armed, immobilized Titan.
"If you move, you're dead,"whispered Supergirl's sister, glaring at her enemy.
"He can't move," Wanda assured her angrily.
"We got him!" J'onn added, changing back to his human form.
Groot crouched down in front of the Infinity Gauntlet, and turned it over.
"I am Groot," he whispered looking at the others with a look of despair.
Everyone looked at the Golden Glove, and found with horror that it contained no Infinity Stones. All slots were empty.
Desperate, Alex looked at both the Glove and Thanos. She must have noticed that the purple alien no longer looked like the powerful Titan she had met a few days ago. She noticed that part of his left face was burned, blistered, as if it had been on fire. He seemed very pathetic to her all of a sudden.
"Where are the Stones?" exclaimed Alex angrily.
"Where are they?" Sam repeated.
"Answer the question," Wanda said, still using her powers to immobilize him.
"SPEAK NOW!" Bucky exclaimed, still pointing his gun at Thanos.
"Faster!"Yelena added, pointing the gun at the alien.
In a weak voice, the Mad Titan answered them:
"The universe required correction. After that, the Stones served no purpose, beyond temptation."
"How dare you speak of temptation when you have killed billions?" Flash yelled pushing Thanos to the ground.
"And even more," added Rene, the murderous look at his target.
"You should be grateful!" Thanos replied simply.
In response, he received Star-Lord's fist in the face.
"GRATEFUL?!" he cried. "AFTER WHAT YOU DID AT GAMORRA? AND ROCKET?"
"AND VISION?" added Wanda as angry as the Guardian of the Galaxy. "YOU THINK WE'RE GONNA BE GRATEFUL FOR THAT?"
And she started punching him in the face and screaming with rage.
"Wanda, calm down!" Sam ordered her.
J'onn grabbed Wanda and urged her to calm down. Then everyone turned their attention to Thanos.
"We asked you a question, where are this damn Stones?" Yelena asked furiously.
"Tell us where are they?" Alex added.
"Gone, reduced to atoms," declared Thanos.
A shiver ran through everyone who faced the Titan. Alex and Yelena were no longer angry, only consumed by despair.
"YOU LIE! YOU USED THEM, NOT LONG AGO!"remarked Alex.
"I used the Stones to destroy the Stones," Thanos explained, giving a glare of power to those who threatened him. "It nearly… killed me. But the work is done. it always will be. I am… inevitable."
These words seemed to have weakened all the heroes put together. Everyone was devastated, desperate.
"We have to tear this place apart," Rene mumbled. "Alex's right. He lies. I'm sure."
Mantis placed her hands on Thanos' head and replied in horror and dismay:
"He doesn't lie. He's telling the truth."
"No," objected Alex with anguish. "No, it can't be! You're wrong! That's not true!"
Flash super-speeded around the hut and reappeared near the heroes.
"The Stones aren't there! They have really gone!"
Yelena lowered her weapon with a dejected look filled with despair. For Alex, it was as if all her strength had been ripped from her. The Infinity Stones were gone. So Kara would never come back again?
"What do we do with him?" Spider-Man asked, pointing to Thanos.
"We kill him," said Star-Lord in an angry voice.
Wanda used her powers and made Thanos scream in pain, and Star-Lord delivered the killing blow by firing a blaster in his face, killing him instantly.
Everyone was shocked by the violence that Wanda and Peter Quill had just shown.
"What?" J'onn choked in bewilderment.
"What did you do?"Flash shouted at the two Thanos killers.
"I took my revenge," said Wanda and Star-Lord with the same voice.
Everyone stared at Thanos' corpse in dismay.
Alex fled from the hut and ran outside. She burst into tears in front of the vegetation. J'onn and Flash joined her, trying to comfort her.
Even Yelena was overwhelmed with grief as she walked out as well.
Spider-Man joined them in turn.
"What do we do now?"
Flash and J'onn looked at him with defeated faces, not knowing what to say, while Alex mourned the loss of her sister.
