What changed…
After Thanos' minion abducted Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts, Earth – 1's vigilante Green Arrow had managed to reach the enemy ship. As Iron-Man was about to join him, he was forced to rescue Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, which prevented him from joining Strange and Oliver Queen. Because in this universe, Peter had categorically refused to be part of the Avengers, and therefore, Stark had never designed an ultra-perfected costume for him. Iron-Man had therefore had to rescue Spider-Man who had clung to the ship of Thanos' servant and, running out of air, had almost died.
Iron-Man and Spider-Man therefore remained on Earth, along with Supergirl and Flash. Together, they had joined the other Avengers and teams of heroes from both Earths for a chance to counter Thanos and the Infinity Stones.
While Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow had tried to rescue Strange and prevent Thanos from reaching his Stone…
Green Arrow knew his chances of success were low. Ebony Maw had gifts of telekinesis and the archer had little means to stop him. Maw was torturing Stephen Strange with glass blades suspended inches from Doctor Strange.
As the archer of Earth – 1 pondered a strategy, he received help from Strange's Cloak of Levitation which proved to be a strong ally despite being a cloak.
Pulling out his bow and arrows, he began threatening Maw to release Strange or be killed. But Maw, not intimidated, revealed his powers to him by flying pieces of scrap metal around him. But as he gloated, the Cloak of Levitation enveloped his face, obscuring everything. Green Arrow had taken this opportunity to kill him with a single arrow to the heart. Ebony Maw was floored.
After freeing Strange, they both ended up on the planet Titan, where they met the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together, they had ganged up against Thanos, when the latter arrived on Titan, after recovering the Soul Stone from Vormir.
Green Arrow, Strange, and the Guardians had fought valiantly, but their combined efforts weren't enough to stop Thanos and the immeasurable power of the Infinity Stones. As he was about to kill the archer with the Stones, Strange had then handed over the Time Stone to him of his own free will, knowing what would happen next.
He said he had to.
Thanos had retrieved the Time Stone and eventually made it to Earth for the last Stone. He had managed to achieve his goal. He had collected all the Infinity Stones. He snapped his fingers. He had wiped out half the universe, including the Avengers and Supergirl…
"Why did you do that?" Oliver cried horrified at Strange.
"I had to do it, Oliver," answered the Master of the Mystical Arts. "There was no other way."
After their battle against Thanos, the Guardians had risen to their feet in pain, moaning. Mantis supported Star Lord, then suddenly lifted his head.
"Something is happening," she whispered to everyone.
"What's happening?" asked the intrigued archer.
It was then that Nebula the daughter of Thanos disappeared into dust, much to the dismay of all. Then it was Green Arrow who began to disappear.
"Felicity…"
And he evaporated under the bewildered eyes of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
"Oh man!"Quill exclaimed, stunned. "What the hell was that?"
"He did it," Strange replied evenly.
"We lost," whispered Drax shocked.
"What do we do now?"Mantis asked with bewilderment.
"We must go back to Earth," declared Doctor Strange. "We have to join the others."
"The others?" Quill asked.
On Earth, in Wakanda, Wanda Maximoff knelt beside Vision's lifeless body, mourning his death. Around her stood Sam Wilson, Black Panther, Bucky Barnes, Groot and Spider-Man. Flash, Vibe, Ralph Dibny, Nora West-Allen and Iris joined them, along with Team Arrow, consisting of Felicity, Rene Ramirez, Dinah Drake, Curtis Holt and Black Siren. Then it was J'onn J'onzz who arrived in turn with Alex Danvers whose face was eaten away with grief, horror and dismay. All were distraught.
"What is this? What the hell is happening?"asked Rene, terrified. "Where is John?"
"This is a nightmare!" murmured Dinah, startled.
"Not shway…" said Nora in a saddened voice.
"How could this have happened?" Flash exclaimed, horrified.
"We really lost," declared Spider-Man in a sad voice. "Mr Stark… Cap… Thor… Black Widow... Hulk... What are we gonna do?"
"Oliver… John…" murmured Felicity distraught and saddened.
Wanda mourned the loss of Vision, ignoring the heroes around her, while Alex still had tears mourning the disappearance of her sister.
"Oh God…" she said, shocked.
Somewhere in the universe, on a distant planet, Thanos gazed at a sunset, a smile on his face.
He had won!
