You must be Summer

They took the bus. They talked about many things, but his little secret wasn’t one of them. Mutants was a topic that rarely came out naturally in conversations. Peter didn’t know how she would react, so he thought it was better not to scare away the cute girl that wanted to go to his place. Let’s leave that to his mom, that lived with him by the way. Well, technically, he was living with his mom… in her house… the very same he grew up in.

He thought it was better not to tell her that too. It wasn’t often that girls wanted to go back to his place. Not often at all. He wasn’t taking any risks with this one.

His house looked like a nice family home from the outside, though the street lights didn’t make it justice. Peter used his key to open the front door. He was halfway through it when he heard his mom calling after him.

“Peter, where the hell have you been? I needed you to…” his mother started… and stopped as soon as she saw Summer “Oh hey!” A completely different tone. An ‘I’m a nice mother’ kind of tone “I didn’t know Peter was bringing someone home!” She said cleaning her hands on her pants “You must be…”
“Summer!” Summer had the biggest politest smile on her face as she reached to shake Peter’s mom’s hands.
“Summer, of course! I’m Peter’s mom, you can call me Magda. He talks a lot about you” She lied with a smile, hopefully covering the fact that he and his mom didn’t talk much these days… and that he never even mentioned a girl.
“Good thigs only, I hope” she smiled playfully at Peter.
“Ok, that’s it! We’re going to my room! Goodnight, mom!” He said as he grabbed Summer by the shoulder and started dragging her downstairs to the sound of his mother’s protests. Summer even managed a playful ‘goodnight, Magda’ before he closed the door. “I should have told you that I lived with my mom. I’m so sorry! I totally understand if you would rather leave now-” He rambled away until she stopped him.
“I don’t mind it.” She said with a genuine smile. That alone managed to stop his ramble right on its tracks. “She seems nice.” She now started to wander around his messy room. Was it too late for him to do a quick run and tidy it up a bit? “And it’s nice to know you talk a lot about me” Now her smile was straight up teasing him.
“She means well…” He said embarrassed.
“I know; I could see that.” Her hands now outlined the ping pong table that was positioned right in the middle of the room. “Nice room by the way”
“Thanks.” Oh boy, was he nervous. “Do you want to play something?” Of course, the girl asked to come to your place just so that she could play a little Pac-man. Dumb Peter.
“Is that what you want to do?” It didn’t matter anymore what Peter wanted to do. The way she was looking at him made clear that there was only one right answer there. Her eyes were saying ‘take me’. It was both a demand and a dare. Still, dumb Peter felt like it was some kind of trap. Life was never that easy for him. “Come here.” She said. He gulped.
“Yes ma’am.” He said. She giggled. He got beside her and her hands immediately went to caress the soft skin of his cheeks.
“You’ve got really nice skin” She seemed genuinely intrigued by that. To be fair, he didn’t know why his skin was so good since his skincare routine was non-existent and he only ate crap. Maybe he had good genes or something. Still, what a weird compliment.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah” They both giggled.

They were just two silly kids after all. His hands went to rest on her hips. Her hands never left his cheeks. Suddenly, he wasn’t nervous anymore. He knew exactly what to do. He kissed her, for the third time that day. It was becoming a habit. One he could easily get used to.

“Peter, I brought chips!” His mother said proudly, going down the stairs into his bedroom/basement with a tray at hand.

Peter quickly parted the kiss – almost way too quickly - and turned to face his mother, hiding Summer behind him as if his mother didn’t already know that the girl was there.

“Mom!”
“I also brought a cheddar dip!” She completely ignored him and made her way to place the tray at the ping pong table. “I’m sorry dear, we don’t have much. I was supposed to go buy groceries today…”
“That’s alright!” Summer stepped out from behind him with a polite smile. From all the girls in the world you could possibly bring home to meet your mother, this one seemed to be the one that would impress all mothers. Being pretty and polite like that she could make any mother beg her to be their daughter in law. Specially a mother who had a loser son who never brought any girls home. “Thank you, Magda.”
“Do you plan on spending the night, Honey?”
“MOM!”
“Oh, I don’t mean to be a burden…” Why did he even try? Those two were on their private little chat. His mom was about to whip out his naked baby photos at any second now.
“Nonsense! Please stay if you’d like. Only, I must warn you we don’t have a guest bedroom, but you can have Peter’s bed and he could have the couch.” She finished the sentence looking at Peter, as if he had planned to keep the bed and make Summer sleep on the couch. She seemed to completely miss the point that Peter actually had plans for them both to share the bed.
“That’s very kind…”
“Ok, mom. Time to go.”
“Do you have enough blankets? Do you want some refreshments to go with the chips?” she said as Peter dragged her to the staircase.
“I think we’re all set mom”
“Goodnight, Magda!” Summer shouted from the distance.
“Goodnight sweetie, sweet dreams” Was the last thing she said before Peter closed the door on her.

Peter took a deep breath. Dude had just been cock blocked by his mother. That was a low blow to his already low self-esteem. He was ready to watch Summer leave laughing at his face. Instead, he turned around to find her taking a bite out of a chip.

“I’m so sorry.” He said as he came down the stairs “That was really embarrassing. I-” He was about to say he would understand if she wanted to leave when she cut him off.
“Hey, it’s alright!” She said in a reassuring tone, wrapping her arms around his torso and looking up to meet his eyes. “You know I never turn down free food”. He giggled.
“I do know that”

His hands went to cup both of her cheeks. She looked adorable. And her lips looked kissable. And so he kissed them, an innocent kiss this time. The previous mood, long killed by his mother. A couple pecks followed because, in one hand he didn’t want to stop kissing her and on the other hand, he was painfully aware that this wasn’t going anywhere anymore. He sighted.

“Well, you heard Mrs. Maximoff. You get the bed; I get the couch.”
“What a bummer” She answered with a playful smile.
