Who We Lost

“I was lucky, though the other kids didn’t seem to think so,” Steve said, running a hand over the photo. The sight of his mother’s face beaming out at him made Steve’s heart ache.

Tony sat beside Steve, gently bumping shoulders with him. “Yeah?”

Steve nodded. “She always made time for me, always let me know she loved me – no matter how busy or tired she was.”

“Not everyone gets that,” Tony agreed, his voice going a little tight. “But you, out of anyone, deserved it.”

“If I grew up to be someone worth anything, it was because of her.”
