therapy and pilgrims
Reena was forced to attend counseling because of her anger issues. She thought that she didn't have anger issues and that anyone who did was an idiotic piece of shit who deserves to die an extremely boring death. Alright, so maybe she did have some issues.
Either way, her session fell right Wednesday's, so as she was leaving Dr. Kinbott's office, Wednesday was going in.
Reena grabbed Wednesday's arm, stopping her. "Good luck. Her voice makes me want to take a screwdriver to my eyeballs."
"I'll be fine," Wednesday assured her and went inside.
Reena walked quickly down the street, avoiding eye contact with Principal Weems. Thankfully, Reena was able to wear her normal clothes to town so when people looked at her, they didn't think she was some Nevermore freak. Luckily, the guy who always sold her cigarettes, even though she was underage, was working at the convenience store in town that day.
She opened the door to the convenience store, had a quick chat with the guy at the counter, exchanged the money for a few boxes, and was out the door in three minutes flat. When Reena stepped outside, she saw Wednesday scale the side of Dr. Kinbott's building and take off down the street.
Naturally, Reena followed after her and spotted Wednesday dart into a cafe. When she walked in, she saw the gothic girl fixing an expresso machine.
Reena laughed as she approached. "I never thought I'd see Wednesday Addams fixing an espresso machine, but you see something new every day."
"I'm doing a trade-off," Wednesday informed her.
The machine finally calmed down, and the barista was shocked. "Wow. Thanks. I never met a Nevermore kid who got their hands dirty. I'm Tyler, by the way. I didn't catch your name, or is that on a need-to-know basis too?"
"Wednesday."
"Hey, I'm right here!" Reena complained. "I'm Reena, coffee kid."
"It's--" Tyler tried to correct her.
"I know what your name is," Reena cut him off. "I'm just gonna call you coffee kid."
Tyler shook his head and looked back to Wednesday. "Tell you what, Wednesday. To show my appreciation, how about I drive you to Burlington?"
"Perfect. Put that quad in a to-go cup," Wednesday ordered.
Reena smiled. "Nice! We're going to Burlington!"
"Uh, but I don't get off for another hour," Tyler let them down.
Wednesday held up $20. "I'll sweeten the pot."
"Twenty whole dollars... Tempting, but no."
"I'll make it forty," Wednesday offered.
"And I'll throw in this pack of Skittles I found in my pocket," Reena added.
"Uh... Listen, Wednesday, Reena, one fun fact about me... I can't be bought, so either wait or find someone else to drive you," Tyler denied.
Reena rolled her eyes. "God, guys are so annoying."
Wednesday and Reena sat across from each other in a booth, waiting for Tyler's shift to be over. Honestly, Reena didn't know why Wednesday wanted to go to Burlington, but it seemed like fun, so Reena was in.
It wasn't long before three boys dressed in pilgrim outfits came into the cafe.
"What're Nevermore freaks doing out in the wild?"
"This is our booth."
Wednesday studied them. "Why are you dressed like religious fanatics?"
"We're pilgrims."
"Potato, po-tah-to," Wednesday replied.
"You three look like lunatics," Reena commented.
One of the boys flipped over a piece of paper on the table. "We work at Pilgrim World."
Wednesday stared at the ad. "It takes a special kind of stupid to devote an entire theme park to zealots responsible for mass genocide."
"My dad owns Pilgrim World," one of the boys informed them. "Who you calling stupid?"
"If the buckled shoe fits."
Reena laughed. "I'm sorry, but if my dad owned a place called Pilgrim World, I think I would kill myself."
"Guys, back off," Tyler intervened.
One of the boys pushed him away. "Stay out of this, Galpin."
Wednesday got up. "Yes, stay out of this."
"It's for your own good, coffee kid." Reena stood next to Wednesday.
"So tell me, freak... you ever been with a normie?" the boy whose dad owned Pilgrim World instigated.
"I've never found one that could handle me," Wednesday answered. "Boo!"
A boy tried to grab Wednesday's shoulder, but she twisted his arms, effectively breaking his wrist. While Wednesday did that, Reena decided that it would be funny to see the son of the man who owned Pilgrim World with a bloody nose. Like she had done many times before, she knocked him in the face and kicked him in the stomach, sending him to the ground next to the other boy Wednesday had taken down.
Tyler was shocked when he saw that two teenage girls had taken the three down. "So where'd you learn those kung fu moves?"
Reena smirked. "I've been expelled from three schools for those moves. They're my specialty."
"My uncle taught me," Wednesday told them. "He spent five years in a Tibetan Monastery."
Tyler raised an eyebrow. "Was he a monk?"
"Prisoner," Wednesday corrected.
"Sick," Reena muttered. "I've gotta meet your uncle."
Behind them, the town sheriff came in, who just so happened to be Tyler's dad. "Dad!"
"Tyler, the hell's going on in here?" the Sheriff questioned.
"They were harassing these customers, and they put them in their place."
"These little things took down three boys? Did you help them?"
"Dad, I swear, I wasn't involved," Tyler promised.
Suddenly, Principal Weems walked in, relieved that she found Wednesday. "Apologies, Sheriff. This one slipped away from me. Come on, Miss Addams, time to go. You too, Ms. Mohan. I believe you should've been back to Nevermore a while ago."
"I got lost," Reena lied.
Principal Weems didn't believe her. "Sure you did."
Wednesday and Reena walked over to Principal Weems, but the Sheriff stopped them. "Wait a minute, hang on. You're an Addams? Don't tell me Gomez Addams is your father? That man belongs behind bars for murder. Guessin' the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I'm gonna keep my eye on you."
"Might wanna keep an eye on another girl," Reena brought up. "Her name is Enid--"
"Okay," Principal Weems cut her off, pulling her and Wednesday outside.
The Sheriff gave Reena a dirty look. "My eye is on you, too, Mohan!"
Principal Weems gave Wednesday and Reena a ride back to Nevermore. "Your first day and you're already on Sheriff Galpin's radar. Wish I could say I was surprised."
"What did he mean about my father?" Wednesday was curious.
"I have no idea, but a word of advice. Stop making enemies and start making a few friends. You're going to need them."
"You know, I would say Wednesday and I are friends," Reena spoke up from the backseat.
Wednesday tilted her head. "Friends is a strong word."
Principal Weems slowed the car down as they approached an accident. "Looks like an accident. I hope the driver's okay."
"He's dead," Wednesday informed her. "Broke his neck."
"How can you tell from this angle?" Principal Weems didn't receive a reply from Wednesday, so she kept driving.
