Chapter 4 - Sam

Sam Wilson honestly has no idea what he’s feeling, it’s like every emotion has just decided to show itself at the same time.
As a councillor that probably isn’t the best thing.
But there is just so much going on.

For one he’s happy that he’s finally home, he no longer has to hide.
He has spent the past month doing normal things, like going for walks, getting coffee
and going shopping but they feel so much more than that.
He’s free, no fear, no looking over his shoulder at every second, he’s just free.

He’s also uneasy, Stark and many powerful people still dislike the avengers.
They are lucky they were allowed to return at all, he thought returning home would be nicer than it actually was.
Stark is cold towards them all, he hardly has had a conversation with any of them and he still refuses to even look at Rogers.
It’s nice to be back but the tower just doesn’t feel like home, not like it used to.
They try to keep up the mood though, they eat dinner together, they joke, they play pranks and video games and they pretend that nothing has changed.
Course they all know deep down that it will never be the same.

He’s annoyed, his skin crawls everytime there is a major disaster on the news, a disaster he can’t help.
He’s annoyed at the Spider-Man who is always on the front page of most news, doing what he’s so desperate to do, help people.
He’s annoyed at himself, for not trying to sort the fight over the accords before it happened, he’s supposed to be the councillor, he should have tried to get Stark and Rogers to talk before fighting.
Maybe none of this stuff would have happened.

Above all he’s in love, he feels like a high schooler again, but she’s just so amazing.
He met her while bringing someone who got hurt on the street into the hospital, and there she was in her nurse uniform.
They were understaffed so he was tasked with helping her treat the patient due to his field experience.
Once the patient was stable she told him she was off of her shift and they went downstairs to get coffee together.

They just clicked immediately, it felt like they had known each other for years.
She spoke of losing her husband, her nephew and countless other things about her.
He spoke of his upbringing, his time in the force and everything else he could think of.
Eventually she realised the time and rushed off.

Sam forgot to ask for her number.
He wanted to go back and ask her out, but then the whole wanted fugitive thing happened so he had to postpone it for a while.

Though luck finally seemed to be on his side, because yesterday when he went out for coffee for like the fifth time this week.
(It helps him get out of the tower and clear his head, plus he just really loves a good cappuccino.)
He went to get his usual order, and there she was.

He was hesitant in approaching her, maybe she wasn’t into the whole ex-international fugitive thing he had going on.
After an embarrassingly long time stalling, he plucked up the courage and went over to where she was sitting.
She greeted him happily and all of his worries were eased.
It led to him finally getting her number, and a few dates.
Until they made it official last week.

And now he’s nervous, May wants him to meet her nephew.
He can’t help but be afraid, May has said plenty about him already, and his life has been tragic.
He’s lost both of his father figures in such a short space of time, he’s scared that Peter will feel like he’s replacing them.

He knows what loss is like, he lost both of his parents recently and it’s even worse at a young age.
He can’t imagine how the boy must feel.
Still from what he’s heard Peter seems to be an amazing kid.
Top of his class, always well behaved.
He even got an internship with Stark, at the age of 14.

The last emotion he’s experiencing is excitement.
He’s excited to get to know May more.
He can’t wait to meet May's nephew.
He’s excited for the future and what it may bring.
