Welcome Home Daph

Welcome Home Daphne

Red headed step child, a euphemism she was unfortunately well familiar with. In a twist of irony beyond all cruelty her long red hair , held neatly in place with a simple yet elegant orchid headband, was the one thing that didn’t set her apart from her sisters…well that and her stunning beauty.
At this thought she looked up from the lock of hair she had been mindlessly brushing to the mirror in front of her, analyzing her features carefully comparing them. Her mothers eyes, a gorgeous green, framed by her fathers long brows which were trimmed perfectly. Eyes trailing down to her nose her most snobbish familial feature passed down by her mother, cute as a button but upturned nonetheless. Finally falling on her lips, another gift from her father, a natural pout carefully lined and filled in with a sheer purple hued gloss.
If only her outward appearance were enough to garner the same love and attention her parents gave to her sisters, mindlessly brushing her hair again with less regard to being especially gentle. She was just as smart, just as capable as any of them! Despite all this she knew in her heart there was but one thing, one important fact that was crucial above all other facets of her being, that her parents, namely her mother could not accept. Daphne being a lesbian. At Least publicly as Mother only really cares for one thing and it’s her status among the other wealthy families. Her eyes welled with tears again as she remembered…wishing she could return to simpler times…
A message arriving with a sudden *brrz* startled her before she quickly wiped her eyes. Finally rising from her vanity to check her phone charging across the room, next to her neatly placed suitcase and duffle bags. The message read only ‘here’, but she knew who it was as she’d been expecting the message nervously. She quickly stuffed her phone, charger and hair brush (it’s her favorite sue her) into her purse before putting it across her back. On the nightstand she carefully placed the goodbye note to her parents beside the keys to the Blake Manor, though she knew her mother would have them changed anyway as soon as she found the note. Suitcase in toe she turned once more scanning the room for imperfections, and then again as a way to cement all the memories, good and bad, she had in her 18 years there. One last shaky breath let out as she turned the lights off for the final time, closing the door quietly though knowing there was no one in this wing of the house tonight but still wanting to make no sudden noises. She walked down the hall and out the balcony door that looked over her driveway.
Below was a garish green and blue van with orange flowers, doors slightly ajar while a small freckled face peers nervously out. She looked down, heart swelling as any last doubts she had about leaving were gone from her mind. In a flurry of movement strong arms caught her bags from above, one after the other and then caught her last of all before driving away. The ride was a blur as most of the night would end up being, but eventually they arrived. One by one with Daphne leading them, Velma , Freddy, Shaggy and of course Scooby- Doo, entered their ‘headquarters’. Entered her new home. As she walked in to see a banner ‘Welcome Home Daph’ surrounded by balloons, her friends— her family surrounded her and her tears finally flowed freely. Tears of joy, freedom, of sadness and understanding. After a few moments she caught her breath and the boys started moving her bags to her room, though she insisted she was more than capable. Eventually it was just them alone, two star crossed lovers grinning ear to ear, staring into each other's eyes. No words were spoken for a while but so much was being said. After what felt like ages to the boys, who were hiding quietly upstairs witnessing it all, finally words were spoken that brought a tear to everyone’s eyes and a smile to all their faces , ‘So does this mean I can officially call you my girlfriend now or…’ Velma said with a smirk on her face. Again there were no words but instead a kiss, familiar and yet passionate like never before. The boys scurried away blushing and giggly to let them finish their moment in peace.
