On the run
As Maeve was looking for Cap Sam found her and told her that he had already found him and bucky. Sam said that she could still go home if she wanted, even adding that Cap preferred that she do that as to keep her safe. Maeve decided to go with them seeing as her dad is already mad at her so what harm could come from becoming a fugitive from the law….right? She also wanted to find out what the hell had really happened back there.
*in the hideout*
They had all miraculously gotten to the hideout without anyone tailing them, though that did not calm Maeve's nerves. Happy and her dad had been calling her so much that Sam got fed up and threw it out the window. He said that it was to conceal their location and make sure that no one could track them, but Maeve then while yelling at him because he had just thrown one of her most prized possessions out of a car window in the middle of god knows where, pointed out the fact that she had the best vpn possible on her phone, because she created it. Maeve had so many pictures on her phone that she hoped the software she made worked because otherwise she would lose 3000 pictures and videos. The software is supposed to automatically upload all the files on her phone to her computer every hour, but she just made it a week ago and hasnt been able to check if it works. The only thing that Maeve had with her was the random stuff in her pockets. While her, Sam, and Cap were waiting for bucky to wake up she was aimlessly feeling around for something, anything she could eat or just fidget with because not only was she tired, hungry, and thirsty she was also incredibly bored, so bored in fact that she had started peeling the paint off the brick wall she was leaning against. Somehow slowly peeling away the stretchy paint on the wall staved off her ever growing boredom. Eventually after a couple quiet hours had gone by, though it felt like days had passed since anyone had last said anything, Bucky woke up. Once they were fully assured that he was not the Winter Soldier anymore and was regular old bucky, they made a plan.
*two days later
At first the team they had put together was small and they knew that with a team that small their odds of being victorious were slim to none. Cap made a few calls and was able to convince Clint to come out of retirement and help Wanda escape, and Sam suggested they try to get Scott Lang on board, which wasn't very hard at all he was practically jumping with joy, the reason behind this is that he hadn't gotten to use the suit very much recently and now he had a reason to. Now as they were driving to go meet Sharon in a car so old that Maeve made a joke asking Cap if this had been frozen in the ice along with him, he didn't laugh and just kept driving. Maeve was never good with silence whether it be a natural silence or awkward silence, unless she had something else to occupy her mind like a book or her phone which she was still mad at Sam for throwing out of a car window while they were going 60mph, she wasn't good with silence, it always had a way of making her uncomfortable. Jokes were typically what Maeve tried to make to help break up the awkwardness of silence, but today they didn't seem to be working, that car ride was as silent as a graveyard. Eventually they got the very discreet meetup spot, and Sharon gave Cap back the gear that was taken from him and Sam, and they said goodbye. Meanwhile in the car Bucky and Sam were bickering and Maeve was trying her best to fight off sleep. She hadn't slept in 7 days and was desperately trying not to sleep now as she just had too much to do. Going days on end without sleep was not uncommon for Maeve, in fact it was more common than getting a full night's sleep for more than 3 days in a row. Ever since the 2012 battle in New York she had ptsd and most nights she would wake up in a cold sweat, hyperventilating and her heart racing after being forced to relive the events that had occured that day. Most of the time it would be Loki pushing her from the tower, but sometimes it would be Coulson dying while saving her life. After a while she just stopped trying to sleep, started actively avoiding it doing all she could to not sleep. Energy drinks, coffee, staying at her computer all night, inventing, anything she could do to stave off sleep she did. Of course you can only go so long without sleeping until you're so tired that you have to force your head to stay up because your mind isnt sending signals to the body to hold it up subconsciously anymore. Maeve's healing abilities make it so that she does not feel the physical effects of sleep deprivation, but nothing can get rid of the mental ones. Now, in an effort of attempting not to give in to sleep, Maeve's eyes were fixated on the leather headrest in front of her looking at all the grooves in the leather almost as if she was inspecting it for flaws. Finally, she gave into sleep, and as she was closing her eyes, a feeling that felt so comforting she could keep them closed forever, the car engine started up and jolted her awake. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she asked “did you have to choose a car whose engine sounds like a lawnmower when it's having trouble starting up?” to which Cap responded “You don't get to complain, I gave you an out, a chance to go home and you didn't take it, you can deal with a loud engine, '' he said which was just a twinge of annoyance. Cap had wanted Maeve to go home because now not only are they fugitives running fron the law, but they technically have also kidnapped Maeve and Cap knew that Tony would not stop looking for them if Maeve stayed with them, so Cap was stressed out about that along with other things and was kind of mad at Maeve for complaining when she was the person to be least affected by all of this and it was his ass on the line now. Maeve stared at him in annoyance and considered smacking him in the head, the only thing preventing her from doing that was the possibility it could cause him to swerve off the road, instead she just replied “well if you're going to be annoying everytime i talk to you and these two (gesturing to bucky and sam) are going to be quiet can we atleast play some music so im not mind numbingly bored?” Cap then without a word turned on the radio and turned the dial in different directions until one led him to music. During that long drive to the airport they all sat there listening to music in silence as they were too tired to have a conversation, until Maeve suggested they stop and get some food, because they hadn't eaten in over a day and she was hungry to say the least. Eventually they found a gas station to stop at for snacks and drinks. They got as much as they could with the collective $60 in cash they had, and as they were checking out the man at the register kept staring at them as if he was trying to figure out where he had seen them before. A look of realization presented itself on his face and he jumped back and stated that he knew who Bucky was as he reached for his phone. Maeve, using her telekinesis, flung his phone from his hand, and he started running. Once Cap caught him which didn't take long as this man was not a super soldier and couldn't run as fast as Cap, Maeve walked over to them and concentrated on getting into the man's mind, she wiped all memory of them ever being there and the memory of seeing Bucky's face on the news so that he would not identify them again before they left. Not knowing what was happening Bucky asked Maeve why she was staring blankly at the man, she responded with telling them to let him go and that she would explain in the car, they let him go and he had no memory of the incident, Maeve while in his mind had told him to go back into his shop and not remember anything after he went back in. Once they got back in the car Maeve explained her telepathy to Bucky, and they did not stop again until they got to the airport.
