Airport Fight Part 2
Landing on the concrete, Kara knelt to help Rhodey stand as Tony landed and did the same for Natasha. Looking around at Steve and Scott’s retreating figures, Kara used her vision to clock everyone else’s movements as she heard them speak.
“Alright, now I’m pissed.” Rhodey told her.
Natasha sighed. “Is this part of the plan?”
“Well, my plan was go easy on them. You wanna switch it up?” Tony asked her as the rest of Steve’s group made their way toward hangar five.
“I’ve got everyone converging on the Quinjet, Tony.” Kara told him. “What do we do?”
Then she was interrupted by Vision as he used the Mind Stone to break the ground in front of the group. “Captain Rogers…I know you believe what you’re doing is right. But for the collective good…you must surrender now.”
Kara and her group formed in front of them, and it was the first time both sides were face to face. Staring at the faces of her friends, Kara tried to push the heartbreak out of her voice as she spoke.
“Please don’t make us do this.”
“What do we do, Cap?” Sam asked him.
Staring back at Kara, he swallowed the lump in his throat. “We fight.”
Then they moved forward, and Natasha sighed. “This is gonna end well.”
“They aren’t stopping.” Peter said into his comms and Tony responded to the kid.
“Neither are we.”
Flying forward Kara found herself fighting against Pietro, as she was the only one fast enough to catch him. She got in one punch before he ran around her, throwing hit after hit into her stomach. Using her freeze breath on the ground around her he slipped on the icy patch and fell allowing her to pin him down.
“Pietro we’re trying to help.”
“No, you’re making it worse.”
Behind her, Peter was swinging through the air dodging cars that Wanda was throwing at him when Steve’s shield cut them, and he was falling. Landing on a truck, Peter shook his head. “That thing does not obey the laws of physics.”
“Look, kid, there’s a lot going on here that you don’t understand.” Steve told him.
“Mr. Stark said you’d say that.” Peter responded. “Wow.”
Then he webbed up the shield and Steve’s legs before pulling him down, dragging him across the ground and kicking him in the face. Steve laid on the ground for a second as Peter spoke again.
“He also said to go for your legs.”
Grabbing the shield that had flown away from him, Steve fought against the kid and watched as he webbed himself up on top of a passenger boarding bridge. “What else did Stark tell you?”
“That you’re wrong; you think you’re right. That makes you dangerous.” Then he swung down and tried to attack Steve, but the older man expected it, resulting in the soldier kicking him in the face before throwing his shield at the leg of the mechanism.
The bridge fell but Peter managed to catch it, his muscles straining against the weight.
“You got heart, kid.” Steve told him. “Where you from?”
“Queens.”
Steve smirked before running away. “Brooklyn.”
As Steve made his way back towards the Quinjet, he allowed himself to think he was going to make it before twin blasts of heat hit the ground in front of him that had him coming to a halt. He stared at his fiancé for only a moment before speaking.
“Kara, you have to let me do this.” He plead. “This is the only way to keep Layna safe.”
“No this is how you destroy our family.” She told him. “The only thing she asked was that you were brought back alive. If you go and do this, I cannot guarantee that will happen! What am I supposed to tell her then, huh? Sorry, sweetheart, your father decided that his friend was more important than us. Yeah, that will help her sleep at night.”
“I’m not trying to choose anybody over anybody else.” He said sternly. “I’m just trying to stop a mad man who is hell bent on destroying us.”
“You’re destroying us!” She yelled at him as she walked forward and tried to get into his head. “Please, please, please don’t do this.”
He went to speak again when the ground exploded, and she was knocked out of the way. Steve looked up to see Sam flying away.
She laid on the ground for a second groaning, before she saw something that had her eyes widening. “Do I have a head injury or is Ant-Man really big now?”
“Holy shit!” She heard Peter exclaim and figured she was seeing things clearly.
“Okay, tiny dude is big now. He’s big now.” Rhodey told them as if they weren’t able to see him as he towered over them.
As Scott went to fling Rhodey out of his hand, Tony frowned. “Give me back my Rhodey.”
Getting up from where she was laying, Kara took off into the air as she heard Tony’s voice fill her comms again. “Okay, anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities they’d like to disclose…I’m open to suggestions.”
“I’m coming, hang on.” Kara told him as she got close to Scott. “Sorry, big guy, now it’s personal…”
Hovering in the air next to his head, she threw her arms out wide and slammed her hands together creating a thunder of noise and a blast of air that knocked him off his feet.
“Just when I think I know all of her powers…” Rhodey’s voice commented, and Kara smirked.
“Never gonna happen.” She told him as she flew away to fight Sam.
Inside the hangar, Bucky and Steve managed to barely make it past the building Vision had destroyed when they were met with Natasha.
“You’re not gonna stop.”
Steve shook his head. “You know I can’t.”
Raising her widow bites in their direction, she sighed. “I’m gonna regret this.”
Steve prepared himself for the sting of the bites, but it never came. Instead, he turned and saw T’Challa writhing on the ground.
“Go.” She told them.
“Thanks.”
Kara watched as the Quinjet took off from the hangar, Rhodey right behind it. Flying up to meet him, she was nearly there when she saw Sam right behind him.
“Vision, I got a bandit on my six.” Then a few explosions before he spoke again. “Vision! You copy? Target his thrusters, turn him into a glider.”
Kara then watched as Vision sent a blast from the Mind Stone aimed at Sam. She prepared to catch him but watched in horror as he swerved, the blast hitting Rhodey right in his arc reactor. Then her friend was falling towards the ground at a fast rate of speed.
“Rhodey!”
“Tony, I’m flying dead stick.”
“I’m coming Rhodey!”
“Rhodes!”
Pushing herself to the fastest speed she could go, she fought the wind as she tried to get to him before he hit the ground. With the elements working against her, she wasn’t fast enough, and she knew she wouldn’t catch him, so she dodged his suit and flew under him just as he crashed into her body, sending them both into the ground.
“Rhodey!” She heard Tony’s voice. “Kara!”
“I can’t move!” She yelled to him. “If I move, I could hurt him more. We need a med evac, now!”
“FRIDAY, read vitals.”
“Heartbeat detected. Emergency medical is on its way.”
Kara looked through her hair as Sam landed near them, his wings retracting. “I’m sorry.”
Without speaking, Tony lifted his hand and blasted Sam away from them, his other hand still on Rhodey’s chest.
