When you're 16 you do reckless things.

One thing Ava knew as she was walking into the house where the music was blaring through the house and teens were shoulder to shoulder, was that as Nora had put it she had turned sixteen and had a glow up. With Mr. Brightside by the Killers blasting through the house Ava followed Nora as they zig zagged through the sweaty bodies. The other thing Ava knew was she was very gay and that the guys looking at her as she passed were of absolutely no consequence to her. Nora would randomly look over her shoulder to make sure her best friend was still following her closely.

Nora had talked Ava into coming out tonight after a bad break up with her first girlfriend Nora kept telling Ava that she needed to mingle and just get buzzed as Ava kept telling her she wasn’t getting drunk, and let loose. Ava’s eyes wandered randomly through the crowd some of the teens she had seen before it wasn’t uncommon Star City teens and Central City teens seemed to be in the mix. Nora had been invited by someone named Ray Palmer who met her at a match recently through a common friend Who was jumping up and down in front of Nora currently.

“AVA!” Gary said grabbing the tall blonde and wrapping his arms around her. “I can’t believe you came!” HE said jumping up and down his arms still wrapped around Ava. She found herself pulling Gary’s arms off of her shaking her head.

“Personal space Gary.” Ava grunted as she pushed him off of her, his smile still bright and contagious as Ava matched it quickly and then pushed further away. “Yeah, I’m here.” She added quietly.

“It’s going to be epic!” Gary gleamed and turned to Nora. “Ray is in the kitchen.” Nora smiled and looked back at Ava who just nodded her head as if to say go ahead I’m fine.

Ava turned towards the party as Nora and Gary moved the opposite way towards the kitchen. Eyes looking the blonde up and down as she walked through the teens. Her eyes glancing around at the other girls trying to see if anyone stood out. At some point Gary arrived and dropped a drink in her hands as she was leaning up against a wall people watching.

“Anyone strike your fancy?” Gary asked leaning into Ava who just shook her head her eyes watching a brunette who seemed to dance to her own beat. Which was completely the opposite of the current Selena Gomez song Love you, like a love song baby that was blasting through the speakers.

“Not so far.” Ava replied to Gary her eyes roaming the crowd and falling on blonde who was definitely dancing to the right beat. Her body was swaying and moving in sync with the beat as if she had been dancing to the song her entire life. Ava shifted slightly to watch the blonde and Gary followed her gaze.

“The blonde?” Gary asked and Ava nodded slightly as they watched her. “I thought you like brunettes?” Gary asked looking at Ava whose eyes were trained on the girl dancing.

“Never said I had a type.” Ava added and then looked over at Gary. “Just because Katie was a brunette doesn’t mean that I only like brunettes.”

“Want me to wingman you?” Gary asked with a huge smile.

“Gary, I do not need you to wingman me!” Ava said looking over at the woman still dancing to the song. “I do just fine on my own.” Gary nodded with a knowing smile.

“Well if you need me just let me know.” Gary added and Ava looked at him slightly confused but nodded anyways. Sometimes Gary could be a bit much but he had been Ava and Nora’s best friend for as long as either of them could remember.

“I will.” Ava said quietly her eyes going back to the blonde. Ava wanted so bad to see the woman but she had spent the whole song her back to Ava, and when she finally turned Ava’s did everything to school her features when the bright blue eyes met hers.

“Wow.” Gary said almost breathless as if seeing Sara Lance had taken his breath away.

“Fuck Me!” Ava groaned as Sara smiled and started to walk towards the duo. Gary trying to act casual as the blonde approached Ava.

“Sharpe?” Sara said as she came to stand in front of Ava. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“We were invited.” Gary answered as Sara looked over at him her eyes squinting as if she was trying to figure out who he was.

“Enjoying the show?” Sara asked looking back at Ava who just raised her eyebrows in response.

“Not as much I enjoyed the Gotham city highlights.” Ava said taking a drink from her cup.

“Fuck off Sharpe!” Sara said which caused a small smirk to creep up on Ava’s face.

“Wow Lance, you kiss people with that mouth.” Ava asked and Sara took a step into her personal space.

“I bet you dream about what I could do with my mouth.” Sara said as she grabbed Ava’s cup taking a drink from it and then placing in back to Ava’s hand. Ava’s eye never moving and staying on Sara's the whole time. “And for the record…” Sara leaned in moving onto her toes her lips closer to Ava’s ear. “So, So much.” Sara took a slow step back and Ava didn’t move her eyes still trained on the smaller blonde. When her lips finally part with what she wants to say they were interrupted.

“Sara!” Zari said grabbing the blonde who snaps her head over to her best friend. “Oliver and Laurel are fighting in the front yard.” Sara glances back at Ava who still hasn’t moved and then back to Zari.

“Shit!” Sara says and pushes past Zari heading outside to handle her sister’s possible coming breakdown.

“Sharpe?” Zari says looking at her with a raised eyebrow.

“Hey Zari.” Ava said calmly looking at the brunette.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Zari asked and Ava nodded her head towards the kitchen.

“Palmer invited Nora so I came with her.” Ava replied and Zari nodded in understanding.

“Have you met Amaya?” Zari asked pointing at a girl in the corner. “She is our fine hostess and super cool.” Zari started to move towards Amaya glancing over her shoulder and Ava pushed herself off the wall and followed Zari.
Zari introduced Ava and Gary to Amaya, Ava found her to be really nice and someone who seemed to put people at ease. She pointed some people out to Ava explaining how long they had known each other and there was something about Amaya that Ava couldn’t quite figure out. She felt like she knew Amaya from somewhere and then it came out that Amaya’s cousin Charlie had actually played on the Central City cardinals soccer team a few years ago and it clicked. Charlie had been one of the defenders on the team the Star City Spartans had lost the championship too.

Ava finally started to walk around again just watching all the teens who were a little more than tipsy now, Ava ventured outside where it seemed that most were avoiding. She enjoyed the quiet in the backyard until she heard something over in the dark. Ava against her better judgement moved towards the sounds of quiet sniffles in the dark and she could see a person sitting on a bench in the dark. The girl looked up at Ava and wiped her eyes quickly.

“Sorry.” Laurel said looking up at Ava who just looked at her with sad eyes.

“You, ok?” Ava asked quietly, shifting slightly a little closer to the girl.

“Yeah, just…” Laurel quickly wiped her cheeks to try and erase the tears but the stains from them falling were noticeable even in the dark. “Boys.” She laughed with a slight sigh.

“Oh.” Ava said looking around and then back to the girl. “Girls can be like that too.” Ava mumbled.

“Oh, I can’t even imagine. I mean my sister has dated some girls and it’s been messy so yeah, I guess you’re right.”

“If it’s any consolation I mean. It’s….” Ava stumbled over her words. “I mean its not just boys, you know.” She added quickly.

“I’m Laurel.” She held out her hand and Ava took it.

“Ava.” She replied. “Sorry about whatever happened.” She added.

“Oh, it’s just his usual bullshit.” Laurel said with an annoyed tone. “We are getting ready to head to college and he seems to think we should end it before we mess it up.” She says quietly looking away trying to not let Ava see the new tears falling. “Like the last three years just meant nothing.” She added.

“Boys.” Ava said quietly and Laurel scoffed, and a small smile appeared on her face.

“Yeah.” Laurel said and then looked at Ava and tilted her head. “You’re Ava Sharpe, aren’t you?” She asked and Ava wasn’t sure if she could see her eyes go wide but she seemed to see her response somehow in the dark based on the chuckle that erupted from her lips.

“Do I know you?” Ava asked confused.

“Umm, I…well, I’m Laurel Lance.” She said shrugging and Ava shook her head knowing that of course she was standing in the backyard talking to her mortal enemies sister.

“So, you must be the nice one?” Ava asked causing Laurel to laugh out loud and push on Ava’s shoulder.

“Wow.” Laurel said shook her head. “I needed that.” She added looking at Ava with a smile. “I guess I am.”

“Good to know.” Ava said and looked around. “I think your sister was looking for you earlier.”

“She found me and then she started threatening to kick Oliver’s ass and then I walked away.” Laurel said.

“Well, that sounds like the Lance I know.” Ava said quietly and Laurel chuckled.

“Why do you guys hate each other so much?” Laurel asked and Ava shrugged.

“Sports?” Ava said with a smile.

“Well, I tell you what, how about you become my friend and then it will just piss her off even more?” Laurel asked pulling her phone from her pocket unlocking it and handing it to Ava. Ava took the phone and inputted her number in and in the contact she listed it as Ava “My Best Friend” Sharpe.

“Just in case she goes snooping.” Ava said handing the phone back to Laurel who laughed as she locked her phone and put it away.

Ava and Laurel talked for a few more minutes until someone named Tommy showed up and convinced Laurel she should go home. Laurel quickly introduced Ava to Tommy and then eventually agreed to let Tommy take her home. She ended up texting Ava about twenty minutes later thanking her for talking to her and asked her to keep in touch. Ava for some reason knew she would. Laurel may have been Sara Lance’s sister but Ava kind of liked her the little time they had talked Ava could see herself actually being friend with the woman.

It was after midnight and Ava had went through this crowd so many times and nobody really stood out to her and Nora had all but disappeared on her probably off somewhere with the Palmer guy and Ava had completely lost track of Gary so she aimlessly moved from room to room so ready to go. She found herself in a room where there were a lot of trophies, and she couldn’t help herself by looking around. She ended up finding a year book and sat down in an arm chair that was in the room.

Sara made her way upstairs and when she had put Mick who was so far gone he could barely stand in Amaya’s bed she moved into Charlie's old room and backed in closing the door resting her head on the door when it closed. Finally, the sounds and people were drowned out she closed her eyes and just stood against the door breathing. She moved back wards and sat down on the bed, she had spent so much time in this room before Charlie had moved she could move around it with her eyes closed if she needed too. She laid back on the bed in the dark room looking up at the ceiling taking a deep breath.

“I hate that you moved.” Sara mumbled looking up. “There is no one here now to handle Mick when he drinks too much.” She grunted as she sat back up and noticed the movement over in the corner she snapped her head over to the chair in the dark. “Who’s there?” She asked.

“Do you always talk to yourself?” Ava asked and then shifted and clicked a light on to her left the space illuminating the blonde who was looking at Sara yearbook open in her lap.

“Do you always read in the dark?” Sara asked standing up walking towards the blonde. “Jesus what are you a cat?” She asked as she approached the woman sitting in the chair and then grabbed the yearbook from her. “Really?” Sara asked and then turned the book to face Ava it was open to the page with the soccer team and Ava shrugged.

“Embarrassed by your freshman perm?” Ava asked eyebrows raised in amusement.

“Fuck you Sharpe!” Sara said and flipped the book towards herself and looked at her frizzy hair in the picture. “I hate this picture.” Sara grunted closing the book and throwing on the bed.

“Hey, I was looking at that.” Ava said moving to stand but stopping when Sara pushed her back in the seat. Ava saw something Sara’s eyes and she wasn’t sure what was about to happen.

“You know.” Sara starts and moves closer to Ava “Nobody knows we are in here?” She added as she moves to stand in between Ava’s legs. Nudging them open just a little so she can stand in between them. Ava tilted her head up towards Sara her eyebrows raising in a questioning look.

“And?” Ava said her eyes freely falling to Sara’s very close and very warm body.

“Come on Sharpe, admit it. You were watching me for at least three songs.” Sara said bending towards Ava. “You were enjoying the show.” She added with a smirk.

“You know Lance you sure are full of yourself.” Ava said but making no attempt to move. “You know I hate you right?” She added.

“Oh, I am well aware of that. And I also hate you.” Sara replied and then Ava swore she saw a glimmer in Sara’s eyes. “And that’s why this should be amazing!” Sara whispered and then moved her body onto Ava’s lap and kissed Ava.

Ava should stop this, she should push Sara off of her and stand up and walk away right now. But Sara was kissing her and honestly Ava might hate this girl but she wasn’t blind and Sara Lance was fucking gorgeous. So she grabbed Sara adjusting her so she was in a better position on her lap and kissed her back. The kiss heated up as Sara adjusted moving to straddle Ava’s lap and tilt her head down sliding her tongue into Ava’s mouth. Neither of them was holding back, Ava knew emotionally she had been on a roller coaster in the past few weeks, and she had no idea what Sara’s excuse was but damn kissing her mortal enemy was fucking amazing.
When they pulled apart finally the need for air winning the battle they were having over each other they both just stared at each other not sure what to do next. As the seconds ticked by Ava’s brain was going through the pros and cons of what was happening and she kept coming back to one thing, Nora had said she needed to let loose and it was like she knew Sara would never admit to sleeping with her and she would never admit to sleeping with Sara.

Ava’s hands moved instinctively to the hem of Sara’s shirt but she paused looking at Sara to make sure she had permission and when Sara looked at what she was doing she thrust their lips together quickly and then let Ava pull her shirt off, her fingers moved to start unbuttoning Ava’s shirt as she let out little curses.

“Why do you wear these?” Sara grunted angrily she was buzzed, and this damn button-down shirt was not helping. Sara’s lips trailed down Ava’s neck.

“Because I like them.” Ava gasped as Sara tucked her hands into the half-unbuttoned shirt grasping Ava’s breasts against her bra. Ava moved her hand to Sara’s hair and pulled her into a heated kiss.

Sara finished getting the buttons undone and pushed the shirt off Ava’s shoulders and openly stared at Ava. She had known this girl since they were kids and honestly Sara had never looked at her any other way aside from being enemy number one. But she couldn’t help but look at her just different right now if only for a moment. Ava Sharpe was fucking hot, and Ava’s hands were trailing down Sara’s arms bringing a bra down with them and oh fucking God, Ava’s lips were on Sara’s nipple and the world seemed to stop.

Sara wanted so badly to hate her to make her feel her anger but right now she was melting into a puddle in Ava’s arms. Everywhere Ava touched was on fire as if she were the devil and Sara were and angel and the devil was surely leaving her mark. Sara’s body instinctively thrust into Ava’s and the two were so lost in what they were doing that when the door flew open hitting the wall with a bang it seemed to take milliseconds for Ava to reach over and click the light off near them and her hand coming to cover Sara’s mouth. They both sat frozen as Mick stumbled into the room and fell on the bed.

“Fucking Mick.” Sara mumbled with Ava’s hand still over her mouth Ava couldn’t see Sara clearly but she could tell the smaller blonde was rolling her eyes. Sara reached up and pulling Ava’s hand down “He is so drunk he is going to pass out soon.” She added in a whisper, but the moment had been ruined for Ava who shifted pulling her shirt back on.

“We need to stop this.” Ava said in a whisper as she started buttoning up her shirt.

“You are thinking too much Sharpe.” Sara said trying to still Ava’s fingers, but Ava smacked her hand away as she buttoned up her shirt and then grabbed Sara’s t-shirt shoving it into her chest.

“We hate each other and this.” Ava said motioning between them. “This is a monumentally bad idea.” She added.

“Look if it’s because you’re a virgin it’s okay you don’t have to be nervous.” Sara said still holding her shirt making no attempts to put it back on.

“Lance, not that’s it’s any of your fucking business but I am not a virgin.” Ava said as she finally finished buttoning her shirt. “Do you mind?” She asked pointing at Sara who slowly stood up tugging her shirt over her head finally. Ava stood up and looked at Mick now passed out on the bed when she looked back at Sara who was reaching down to pick her bra up on the floor turning and facing Ava.

“If you change your mind.” Sara said with a smirk, Ava knew the smirk she had seen it many times before on the pitch. She hated that damn smirk and she couldn’t believe she almost allowed this to happen.

“This?” Ava said again motioning between them. “Will never happen.” Ava turned and walked towards the doorway looking one last time at Sara before walking out of the room.
