We're different, you and I
I didn’t grow up with my mom, she wasn’t there for me.
She left me with my adopted uncle Loki.
He was nice, he seemed to care
No one in the castle ever looked me in the eye. I assumed they just didn’t have the chance, or were told not too. As I got older I realized how wrong I was.
They all hated me, all of them except Loki, I spent all my time with him. I helped him with everything, as soon as I was old enough I started traveling with him.
When I turned 10, my mother was banished. Everyone treated me like glass, like I would snap at any minute and become just like her. I didn’t think that was fair at all.
It was the last straw when a boy a little older, a boy who carried wine back and forth for dinners, whispered a snide remark in my ear after I spilled my glass over the table “do you see how they look at you? You’re a freak Èirck, always and forever a freak” I stood up from the table then, sending glasses and plates crashing to the floor as I stood, I looked at all the terrified faces around the room, a few even flinched away from me. I left the room, looking at the floor in shame. Loki came to comfort me later,
“Why? Why do people think that I’m bad, Uncle Loki? What did I do to them?” my voice wavered, the tears that waited in the corner of my eyes threatened to spill.
Loki looked down at me with a mix of pity and disappointment, in me or in the world, I didn’t know. He put his hand on my shoulder, his voice was emotionless
“No one is going to like you Espen, you’re different from them. Everything you do is going to be terrifying for them, any move you or I make. I hate to say this Esp, believe me I do, you’ll be lucky if you make it out, you’ll be lucky to find someone who loves and cares about you after I leave.”
“You’re leaving? When?”
“Don’t worry about it, Espen. Tonight, we’re going to go see Asgard as other people, normal people” Loki’s signature outfit disappeared, replaced by a normal commons outfit, his hair, eyes and face changed with it. I smiled as I understood what was happening, I changed with him. I don’t remember much about that night, though the one thing I do remember is when I got back, Odin, Frigga, and Thor were waiting for me.
