Chapter 20
The jet was filled with tense silence, it lingered in the air through the journey back to the compound. The team all sat around tending silently to the wounds that had been acquired during a fight. It was almost like no one dared to speak a word either out of fear of an argument or tears.
Daisy was worried for Wanda, the woman sat stillest with her head resting on her shoulder green eyes staring into nothingness. Guilt radiated off her it was almost suffocating in a way that made everyone else feel its effects. It seemed every simple mission with the Avengers ends badly, it wouldn't be long before people start to question the actual safety of the Avengers being around.
She looked around, Sam and Steve were tending to a few bruises while Natasha had taken to fly the jet even if it was Daisy's job. Even with a possible broken rib and a sprained ankle, Natasha liked to do things her way and heal in her privacy.
Daisy didn't even realize it but seemed to subconsciously rub her hand up and down Wanda's arms as the brunette now looked back up at her with enchanting free eyes. It was clear Wanda was grateful for her actions as she let out a soft sigh of relief.
Night had already swept over the New York skyline as they entered the city from above. Daisy looked out of a skilled window and would still marvelled at the sight that she saw. Lights from the sky-high building to the blanket of blues and blacks dotted with silver that covers them. It seemed to perfect for the world below it.
Nevertheless, Daisy had almost forgotten the place that had stripped her of free will and childhood since being with the Avengers. That had given her a family and didn't judge her for her actions, and she was willing to do the same with Wanda.
As the hold of the jet opened, Tony and Pietro along with Nick was waiting outside for them. The news must have turned on pretty quickly due to the faces of the lot saying so. Nick was demanding as soon as he could 'what the hell happened.' Pietro was at his sister's side in seconds comforting her as Tony joined the rest.
Wanda was just tired and unwilling to answer as she leaned into Daisy's touch. It was fitting just to send her off to bed if she would even sleep. But shook her head as they reach Wanda's room at the end of the dimly lit hallway.
"You don't want to go to your room, how about my room."
At that, she nodded her head dark curls flowing out of their style at the motion. She didn't want to be alone but Daisy left the fact out that she could have simply stayed in Wanda's room. They lean against the wooden headboard for minutes complementing the world around them.
Daisy's room was lit up by the silver moonlight and the orange glow of a small light. Just enough to illuminate the dark furniture that fitted Tony's modern style he was going for. The wind blew against the trees making the branches form finger-like shadows that tapped against the window.
"You wanna talk about it?" Daisy broke the silence yet Wanda simply shook her head almost like she was scared to speak.
"I'll speak then." Daisy felt the overwhelming guilt coming off Wanda and she needed something to distract them both.
"I'm gonna be real, love, my words may or may not be the most comforting as I tend to speak my mind most of the time. But you saved more people today than take them away. There was a hundred plus in the market where the bomb went off than in the building as they were mostly outside. If I had to kill one or even myself to save billions I would do it. But you and I aren't the same, remember that. Everyone where loves you, Wanda, me more than the rest. But you needed to do what's best, now never go out of your way to look for Anything or anyone when you know the output will be death."
"You know actually at my time with Shield, a new guy, Robbie was talking about Witches and shit. But he did mention one with magic that looks quite similar to yours. Maybe it was you, god, imagine. 'Wanda Maximoff, Multiversal Threat.' I grew up believing in one world and know according to some guy with a flaming head and Tony there are infinite possibilities. And according to some old ass witches in hell, your gonna destroy this or rule it all thanks to some old book laces with dark magic. At times Hydra was way simpler."
Wanda listened to Daisys rant about higher powers and how she doesn't believe in anything that some books say or a demon from hell states. Wanda found it amusing and it put a dent in her foul mood, The brunette watched Daisy with great care and took in each word she says but seemed to miss out on one factor of the story and that was the part about herself.
Wanda recalled the pleasant dream she had while sleeping next to Daisy. They were a happy family with two baby boys with family members around. But to Wanda's memory, she knew non of these people, well she noticed Pietro from the shocking silver hair. She might even remember calling someone her father but it was once again a face she hadn't recognised but played it off as being that she never saw her father with grey hair or such dark clothes.
"Oi," Fingers here clicked in front of Wanda's fact, "you went away with the fairies again. Wanna say what you're thinking about." It was Daisy who had long gone finished her rant and took to looking at Wanda until she go bored which took less than a minute.
"No."
"Why, please." Daisy gave Wanda her best puppy-dog eyes. And Wanda was close to falling for the big brown eyes looking up through dark lashes trick.
"Damm, It always works." She heard Daisy whisper under her breath as she turned away to think of something else.
"It was a dream, so it's private until I wish to tell you."
"Ooooo, so was it a, you know-"
Wanda couldn't help but blush a bit at what Daisy was suggesting but came to her senses as she shoved Daisyby not too much so she wouldn't have fallen off the bed.
"No, I can't even believe you suggested that." Nevertheless laughed all same. Despite
her actions earlier today she couldn't help but feel slightly elevated when she and Daisy sat next to each other. She listened in on the awful jokes the woman in her arms was say in an attempt to lighten the mood
Wanda didn't laugh but smiled while she still felt extremely bad about the people that had died due to her actions. A little bit in her bloomed with happiness though, she was glad it happened which made her feel guilty that she saved Daisys life and that to her was better than anything. She felt like she owed it tho as Daisy save Pietro from a shower of bullets and that was more than she could ask.
Another part of her told her that she would kill more people if it was to save Daisy and Pietro, the only two who she only cared for in this world.
