Chapter 13
"Calm down ok. Fury sent me okay. Ask him, Coulson." Daisy at in a cell in just her mission suit. Her boots, holsters and even her gauntlets had been taken from her. So the vibrations had loudened around her making her cringe at each shout ringing through the base.
May stood across from her, arms crossed and face steeled in an impression of nothing.
"So you didn't kill the agent, because the jet was clean and here exactly on time."
"No why would-"
Mays's eyebrows were raised at the question that was going to be asked.
"Oh yes." She had almost forgotten she was and Ex-Hydra apart from the haunting night terrors. She had fit right in with the Avengers even calling them near friends.
Daisy ran her hands through her short dark hair. She never liked long hair as it got in the way and in her opinion tying up seemed like a waste of time. So the first ounce of freedom she got at Hydra she cut it off much to Whitehall's horror. His face fuelled her dreams only the part that came afterwards, in her opinion was worth it.
The door above them opened and Coulson walked down the steps and down into the cell and looked slightly angry at the revelation had found.
"She's clear, Fury seemed quite angry at us for not even letting her speak and that asking me if he was stupid enough to let a Hydra agent on the carrier." Coulson rambled on a bit and Daisy realised how much she hated leaving them. Guess she felt a dept after being raised by Hydra for her whole life.
They walked out of the underground cell and straight into the main area that was bustling with agents. Coulson was rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D as Fury just stuck around flying in the air for weeks.
The Director had left her in his office to gather his team to introduce her. Looking around his office Daisy noted he was still the big nerd he always was. The old Captain America comics are stacked on his desk along with other trinkets from history and movies.
"Everyone." Coulson and May came back with a group of seven. "This is Special Agent Johnson a Level eight and Avenger. Agent Fury sent to fill in for a few weeks."
"Agent meet, Bobbi Morse, Lance Hunter, Alphonso Mackenzie. Lincoln Campbell and Eleana Rodriguez are two Inhumans like you."
Fitz and Simmons seemed too shocked to speak, eyes wide and mouths slack. Guess being an Avenger was a bit much to take in. It's not every day a Hydra head becomes a superhero.
"She's the one that, you know, betrayed you and you letting her in," Mackenzie asked, sceptical. Right off the back, she knew he was going to get to trust her the longest.
"Yep Fury's orders, I may be the Director but he will always rule me out," Coulson told him, no wonder why Fury got the Hellicarrier instead. It was almost like he was building up his little S.H.I.E.L.D group.
"So what do we have?" Daisy asked as nothing had just happened eager to get her job done because she was already missing the Avengers that wrapped around her heart.
"Well, Ghosts, A guy with a flaming head and a group that hates humans. Oh and a really old book." Coulson told her while putting multiple photos on the screen.
Ghosts was a new one for her. The 'Ghost rider' was also quite usual but in a world, with superhumans, it didn't seem all that crazy. The book they held, quite safely, it was like it had been set on fire and covered in shadows.
"So what's next?" Daisy joined Coulson's side as the rest dispersed out of the office to do their separate jobs. No doubt get an earful from Simmons.
"I show you around where you'll be staying for the next three weeks and introduce you to the rest of the Shield."
The tour around the base, commonly known as 'the playground' looked way different from the S.H.I.E.L.D she knew. They were stationed at an old S.S.R facility somewhere in America. Even she didn't know much to her annoyance.
Daisy was placed in one of the bright white containment rooms. It was way better than the containment rooms at Hydra so she took it with a smile. Even so, she felt uncomfortable that her every move was being watched carefully.
On their way back to the common room Coulson filled her in on the severs that S.H.I.E.L.D ran on. She would have to double-check their security due to her other reason for taking the job and being the only Avenger that knows of Coulson's existence.
The tour stopped when they heard yelling coming from the lad, Fitz's Scottish accent more recognisable from the rest.
Around a metal table surrounding the book or the Darkhold, where Fitz, May and an unknown middle-aged man and an emotionless brunette.
"Aida and Radcliffe. Just to warm you Aida is an android."
Nobody learns from others' mistakes, she thought remembering the mess Ultron caused upon the world.
"If she Turns evil and makes a city float, I'm not destroying it again." She muttered, shivering thought of suffering through the pain of her bones breaking again.
Coulson must have heard her, "So it was you then, causing a whole city to turn to dust in a few minutes." He was nothing but impressed at the sheer amount of power she held. Something like that shouldn't be possible apart from weapons that the government is hiding.
"She can't read the book anymore no matter how many lives it could save. It corrupts anyone that reads it and we wouldn't know if it corrupted Aida because you coded her to be so good a lying." Fitz's heavy accented argument drove them closer to see what it was all about.
"We just keep Aida locked up and tells us what she read. It's a game-changer for the world." Daisy had to admit that Radcliffe looked like a mad man. His wide eyes as he made aggressive movements and joyful voice reminded her a lot of the people that experimented on her.
"You don't get it. You just don't get it. See the bigger picture, Radcliffe. We don't know what she will read she'll lie. Aida could read something to upgrade herself or gain a real consciousness. Just wait till we fall asleep and escape and it will be Ultron over again but this time with knowledge no one knows even exited."
She could see Fitz practically Glaring daggers at the book wishing it could ignite on fire on the spot.
"Think of-" May stared buts she stopped her in mid-sentence.
"No May." They all looked at her like she had gone mad. "No one can look in that book not even for the sake of life. It's magic, an unknown variable in science. It's probably not even science. You lot don't trust me and I get that but Radcliffe either gets rid of Aida or destroys all her coding and rewrites it because whatever she read could destroy more than Ultron did. She might stop at a city or she will go beyond that to counties, continents to the world and more."
Everyone still looked at him like she was mad and maybe she had, but Radcliffe seemed to listen and plug AIDA into one of that computers to full wipe her and re-code the Android as the Darkhold got whipped away to a secure holding area.
"Thank you, Sk-Agent Johnson. Getting to listen doesn't mean I fully trust you. But it was a start." Scott gave are a near-invisible smile, all the same, it made her feel a little better.
"Oh and Fitz, Drop the 'agent' it's Daisy or Johnson, whichever you prefer." She left him with Simmons as she escaped the lab and into the dim brick hallway.
The vibration of her phone rigging Made her stop and into a nearby cavity in the wall. Only one person would have called her already.
"Wanda, I have been less than a day. How are you."
"Good, Good. I was bored everyone was out and Tony was making a racket in the lab so I stayed away in fear of my life."
At each end of the line, the young woman let out a small laugh. Both found there self's listening to the other's laughter before an awkward silence filled the area.
"So-Um, found anything fun to do at the compound?" Daisy answered to hopefully to rid of the tension.
"Well, I have seemed to have picked up a likening to baking. I and Mama used to cook for Pietro and Papa it's good to find my love for it again. Tony likes blueberry muffins and Natasha is quite fond of chocolate cookies."
Daisy let Wanda ramble on, she realised that she loved the sound of Wanda's voice. The accent was slowly mixing with American but Wanda seemed too happy to care.
"Oh, I need to go now. Natasha had got to teach me defence, as much I would like you to be my teacher, she is quite a rough teacher."
"Talk soon then, Laku noć, amoureuse."
She ignored the small longness in the pit of her stomach as Coulson appeared behind her.
"Do you listen into all your agent's conversations?" Crossing her arms she stared into his baby blue eyes.
"Nope, I happened to be walking by and heard the last of your conversation. Lover?" at the question he raised his eyebrow.
"Friend, and why do you need to know?"
"I don't, do you call all your friends 'Love' in French."
"Only the special ones. Good night Coulson." He watched as Daisy's retreating figure went down the hall and toward her assumed bunk.
Daisy felt his eyes on him but didn't care, she was tired. Even if she was trained to stay awake for days doesn't mean she wanted to.
After she finished her nightly routine she lay her head on the pillow and felt the oddly calming feel of the lumps of a small gun and knife under her pillow.

A Blaring alarm pulled Daisy out and what to her was probably the only good dream she had ever been in.
Despite her annoyance, she hastily pulled on her mission suit alone strapping a few of her weapons to her. There’s only one thing an alarm like this means and non of it is good.
She was walked out of her room and into more groggy agents that were still on the base and had also pulled on the work gear. Some looking more tired than ever.
Everyone that was on the base was crowded in the common room all looking at Coulson with worry. Daisy drowned down the coffee she was handed and instantly was repulsed at the taste. She lives along for a while and in a base with Hydra and they don’t have it this sweet or milky. She spotted a few faces around her and recall the taste as well.
“The Darkhold is gone.”
With wide eyes, everyone stared at Coulson. They were more than definitely in danger.
