Chapter 6 1/2
“Our couch sucks.” You groaned trying to maneuver it and find a way to place it in the small living room where it would actually look nice and go with the flow. Bucky shook his head at you from the high top chairs by the kitchen counter. “It’s not that bad.” He defended. “It’s kinda that bad.” You argued back, pulling a cushion up. “There’s still glass in here!” You held up a piece as proof “I really thought I got it all.” huffing out your last words. you got it from a storage locker after the compound was destroyed, you thought it was in better condition than this. “We should go to IKEA” You announced across the small space, turning your body towards Bucky who looked questioningly back at you. “Where?” He cocked his head to the side. “It’s a furniture store” You tried to explain. “It might be good to look anyway, it's not like we came into this with much of our own furniture.” You shrugged.
You finally got into the car and to the store. You obviously had to start with the show rooms, kind of seeing everything in real(ish) spaces. The man to your left had a clenched jaw and wide eyes, You realize he's probably a little overwhelmed by the amount of people and just things around. “Hey, it’s chill, we just are here to look at couches and tables, OOH and they have cookies and stuff at the end too.” You finished, trying to ease tension.
You walked from a little fake room to, little fake room. At one point you heard a mumbly voice. “I like these curtains.”
“Good, good!” you again tried to encourage “Take a picture of the tag if you see one so we can find it later.” You instructed while placing your phone with the camera open into his palm. “W-why? Do we need to-” He stuttered. You interrupted him, “The stock is in a warehouse at the end, and the names are all in Swedish, so it helps us remember.” hopping to the side again to look at the dark green curtain he stood next to, watching as he snapped a picture.
You moved through, following the arrows on the ground. “What about this one?” You asked running a hand along the back of a gray woven couch before plopping into it. Then patting on the seat trying to get Bucky to follow. After a beat he sat down and slightly bounced in the seat. “It’s nice,” he shrugged. “Yeah but is it good for the living room?” You pushed further. “I mean yeah, it’s also like the fifth couch you asked about.” He sighed at you. “I know, I know, but I want your input and to get something you like.” You tried to defend yourself. He nodded a long “Well then maybe the last one?” He said hesitantly. “The other gray one with the chaise?” You double checked.
“That’s the one with the little long part attached right?” He questioned back. “Yes! That’s the one.” You exclaimed. “It would look nice in our living room.” you grabbed his arm, shaking him a little.
You continued on and eventually hit the warehouse. You did snag some cute tiny plates and better sponges on your way through as well. You were looking at some of the throw pillows to go with the couch when you noticed that Bucky had wandered towards the regular pillows. “Do you need a new one?” you asked, walking up to his side. “Yeah, the ones we have are too soft.” He explained quietly. “Alright, did you find one you liked?” squishing down the pillow towers with you hand. He nodded and picked one up, before flipping it slightly in his hands. ayou gestured the cart towards him but he opted just to hold it instead. you made sure you got the curtains too.
Then it was time to find your aisle and the number for your couch, as well as a small shelf unit for your kitchen. You made our way to the check out and you grabbed some sleeves of the shortbread cookies as you passed the display.
It was better to have the couch delivered but everything else was able to go in the car. You pulled out of the parking lot and you saw Bucky looking around in one of the large blue plastic bags, then pulling out one of the cookie sleeves. “They’re shortbread, with crème and raspberry jam in the middle.” looking out of the corner of your eye to see what he was holding. He nodded then you heard the rustle of plastic as he opened them and began to try one.
The rustling was pretty consistent for a while, so at a red light you fully looked over at him and at an almost empty pack of cookies. “Did you eat almost all of those?” you exclaimed and placed a fist against his arm. “Oh sorry” He looked down, almost surprised at how much he had absent mindedly eaten, but did look up with an apologetic look. “It’s chill” You giggled. “I grabbed like two other packs, and a pack of the chocolate ones.” You admitted still chuckling. “I love these cookies, but don’t go to IKEA very often.” You made excuses for your bulk cookie buying. “They are good.” Bucky agreed, smiling instead.
