Paths connecting part 2
[New York, Hell's kitchen harbor, 8 hours after the incident]
"Fuck!"
A hammer flew over his head, missing him by only a few inches.
When Marc looked over to his left he could see the Asgardian, Thor, charging at him, angry battle cry accompanying him.
Iron man was still firing energy blasts at him, making it impossible for him to really attack despite throwing some of his Crescent darts.
Every time he tried to step forward he would simply be thrown back a few feet.
It was exhausting.
Steven had suggested to simply run away and Marc had been really tempted to do just that, but he couldn't for two reasons.
First was the fact that Avengers wouldn't just let him leave and second was that the two killers they were here for had escaped and were probably still around the harbor.
Another shot fired directly at his head, knocking him back. He was really thankful that Khonshu's suit protected him from the heat and backlash.
The thought had crossed him, that his suit was only that resistant this night because of the full moon.
It was disturbing to think how this fight would have gone on a different night.
He got back up, seeing Stark take a step closer to him, angry scream escaping the man.
"Why will you not go down you fucking mummy!!??"
Marc didn't answer.
He simply squared his shoulders, getting ready for another round.
Something crashed into him from the side, something he was still able to feel through the suit and it HURT.
He closed his eyes in pain for a second before seeing the hammer (Mjölnir?) that had hit him retreat back into the god's hand.
He gritted his teeth and got back up.
It hurt, his side protesting his every move.
Sure, he was healing already but Marc wasn't sure he could take another hit from Mjölnir.
He needed to bring Thor down first, but how?
'Let me front Marc.'
'Jake, no. I can handle this.'
Jake was already protesting ("But I can help!") but Marc interrupted him.
'I know, I know. But we can't do this the Lockley way. We can't have the Avengers hunt our asses everywhere we go just because we beat up their asses to point of no return.'
There was only a grumble in his mind before Jake's presence retreated back.
His mind was empty now.
Steven and Jake were both silent, deep in the back of his mind, and Khonshu was nowhere to be found.
An arrow embedded itself into his shoulder, another in his leg and one in his throat.
"Not so tuff now, are we?"
Barton was jogging over to them, bow in hand.
When he looked over to Marc he seemed disturbed.
"How the hell is he still standing with an arrow in his throat?!"
Stark, still having his repulsers pointed at him, didn't even take his eyes of him for a second while he answered.
"I have no idea birdbrain. My repulsers aren't doing anything either.
But point break here seems to cause some damage with his hammer toy."
Marc could have sworn the god rolled his eyes before he reminded Stark that Mjölnir was "a weapon that defeated armies in seconds" and "no simple toy for children to use". Does this guy understand jokes? No? OK.
Barton threw his hands in the hair, apparently confident that he wouldn't do anything in his state and exclaimed: "Then why aren't we hitting him with this thing over and over again?"
"Good question. Point Break?"
Marc didn't even hear Thor answer before the hammer was flying at his head top speed.
Without knowing what he was doing, his arm flew up, trying to catch the item being thrown at him.
It was absurd.
Everyone knew only the god was able to lift it.
So it came to a surprise to everyone when Mjölnir stopped right in front of his body, confident weight in his hand.
The Avengers stared at him, collectively taking a cautious step back.
"Nay...", Odinson whispered, "...that's impossible."

[New York, Hell's kitchen, 8 hours after the incident]
Peter was running as fast as he could, swinging from time to time when it was possible.
His heart was hammering in his chest.
He needed to get to Agent Coulson and stop all this...this pointless fighting!
Why couldn't his family and friends just get along?
Now his dad was fighting his new vigilante friend and even DD got pulled into this.
He really hoped be could stop it in time...
He spotted the building the Quinjet was parked on and was on top in mere seconds, a single jump taking him up.
He ran inside already calling Coulson's name.
Instead of the Agent though, there were a man and woman standing together, pointing at the monitors and muttering to each other.
When they noticed him both jumped back before recognizing that he wasn't a threat.
"Spider-Man! What are you doing here?"
"We don't have time, I can explain later!
We need to get Agent Coulson, so he can tell Tony to stop fighting!
Moon Knight isn't the murderer or whatever you think!"
The man's eyes widened.
"Coulson is outside, on a call with-"
The woman interrupted him.
"That is classified information Fitz!"
She turned back to Peter, smiling gently.
"We can com him and see when he has ti-"
Peter shook his head violently.
"No! This is taking too long, we-
You said he was outside, yes?
I will get him myself!"
He was already outside when he heard them calling for him to get back.
Peter ignored them.
"-e can't promise anything, Director. It's- yes. No he- all of them. Yes. Yes. I- Understood."
He could see Coulson sigh and put down the phone.
Peter wanted to use this moment to make his presence known but it seemed that the Agent already knew he was there.
"Spider-Man, good evening."
He tipped his head forward in greeting before walking towards Peter.
"The Avengers didn't notify me of your presence here?"
He made it sound like a question, one that Peter was in too much of a hurry to answer.
So he didn't.
"Agent Coulson! You need to call off the Avengers!
Moon Knight isn't the killer, he's hunting them!
There is no need for fig-"
"I'm so sorry, sir.
We tried to tell him that he couldn't interrupt a call wi-"
The man held up a hand which made the two adults that had followed him outside stop.
"Calm down Simmons. It's all fine and good."
He turned back to Peter.
"Now, you probably know I can't just stop a mission over information that is neither confirmed nor from a member of the team."
"But Natasha told me to find you!
She said that you could help end this!"
He heard the man -Fitz- whisper to the woman -Simmons-: "THE Natasha? Romanoff?"
Coulson seemed surprised.
"Natasha told you to go to me?"
Peter nodded and the Agent sighed before smiling slightly.
"Well it wouldn't do to let the Black Widow down, now would it?
Let's get back to the Quinjet, we have a call to make."
Peter was the first to start sprinting back inside, the three SHIELD agents following behind him.

[New York, Hell's kitchen harbor, 8 hours after the incident]
The scene Matt came upon wasn't one he would have expected to experience in his wildest dreams.
Captain America was unconscious on the ground, his super soldier heartbeat even slowed unmistakable for Matt's ears.
Hawkeye had his bow at the ready, his heartbeat fast.
The vigilante could hear the crackle of what he presumed were hearing aids on the man. (He also smelled like garbage...)
The other humming he heard was from Iron-Man's suit and repulsers, suggesting he was aiming his weapon at Moon Knight.
Thor was just straight up muttering to himself about 'it' being impossible.
Matt wasn't sure what 'it' was supposed to mean until his senses noticed something in the right hand of Peter's new vigilante friend.
A strange humming emitted from it, to high for normal human ears to hear.
"Mjölnir...", he breathed out, catching the attention of the still conscious men.
Moon Knight had just lifted Mjölnir.
-----------------
[New York, Hell's kitchen harbor, 8,5 hours after the incident]
He tensed at the new presence.
Daredevil was dangerous and known for removing unwelcome people from Hell's kitchen with force.
Normally Clint wouldn't have worried that much, it's not like the man could take on the Avengers by himself.
But now?
Now they already had two dangerous men to deal with, one of them being able to lift Mjölnir and knock out Captain America with one single kick.
And they were just three, with Bruce being at the tower and Natasha having vanished after she took the kid to a safe place.
He gritted his teeth, hands clenching around his bow and arrow.
They should have had a back up plan.
Only good thing was that the guy dressed in white (who was probably Marc Spector under all that wrappings) seemed as surprised at the vigilante's presence as the rest of them.
Good.
If Daredevil had come as backup they would have been screwed.
No one dared to move as said devil moved forward, his strides confident and strong, as if he wasn't worried about crashing into a fight between the Avengers and a powerful foe.
He stopped when he stood in the middle of them, blocking Moon Knight from them as well as them from Moon Knight.
"Listen up Avengers.
I don't care what you're trying to do here, whether it be you trying to fight Moon Knight or save someone or some shit like that.
I'm fed up with you barging in everywhere you want, whenever you want."
Clint could see Tony trying to protest but the devil of Hell's kitchen simply held up a hand and told him to 'shut the fuck up'.
Was it wrong that Clint wanted to hug the man for getting Tony to shut up for once?
"You're lucky you didn't destroy anything yet or I would have kicked your asses back to your tower or even Asgard!
When you come to my turf for something you TELL ME!
Got it?"
He didn't even give them time to defend themselves before he turned his attention back to Moon Knight.
"And you! You put that fucking hammer down right now. Spidey likes you and I respect you looking out for the kid but if you destroy something with that thing I will kick you all the way back to the moon!"
Clint was surprised when Moon Knight simply nodded and slowly put down Mjölnir, taking a step back, hands up in a placating gesture.
And then the fucker actually talked, and this time to a real person instead of the air.
"I apologize.
I didn't mean to intrude but I couldn't waste time to find you and ask for permission.
I needed to act."
"Act on what? Killing for kids?!"
Clint asked angrily.
"We didn't kill 'em ya bastards!
We tried to save 'em but ya had to come in and ruin everythin'."
And holy shit, why did he just talk in a New York accent? Wait...we?
Tony choose this moment to speak up.
(He had been suspiciously quiet for a while...)
"Stand down. Coulson called.
Apparently Peter and Natasha confirmed that Moonpie here isn't the killer.
He is telling the truth."
Clint could see Moon Knights shoulders relax almost instantly.
"So...you won't try to fight me anymore yes?"
And wow the guy sounded exhausted.
Thor nodded.
"Aye, we won't. We thought you a threat and for that I, in behalf of my shield brothers and me, must apologize.
Will you, warrior worthy of Mjölnir, accept my apology?"
"Yep, yep. That's fine.
If this is all I think I'm gotta take a nap."
And before Clint could even try to understand what the guy meant by that, Moon Knights wrapping suit changed into a white tree piece one.
What the actual fuck.
"Ehm...hi? Wonderful evening innit?"
Ok double the what the fuck.
Either Clint's hearing aids were acting up or the guy just became British.
He was about to ask about that but was stopped by groan.
The Captain had apparently chosen this exact moment to wake up from his beauty sleep.
"I- guys.", he said sounding actually scared, "am I the only one seeing that?"
Clint turned where Steve was pointing.
When he did, his heart seemed to stop.
There, leaning against the wall, stood a giant skeleton bird in mummy wrappings, scepter in hand.

[New York, Hell's kitchen harbor, 9 hours after the incident]
Steven blinked rapidly, trying to adjust to fronting so suddenly.
Marc had retreated into the back of their mind, exhausted from the fight with the Avengers, suddenly giving Steven control.
If Steven was being honest, he hadn't watching the fight. He just wanted it to be over.
Ha was a big, BIG fan of earth's mightiest heroes and this certainly wasn't the way he wanted to meet them.
And now they were staring at him, probably because of the suit change.
It made him quite nervous to be on the receiving end of so many stares.
The only thing he could think of was to wave and break the silence with an awkward:
"Ehm...hi? Wonderful evening innit?"
Oh man.
This wasn't how he imagined this evening to go.
'You're doing fine Steven.
And it doesn't matter what they think about you, about us. Just be yourself and if you need help I will front.'
'Thanks Jake...", he muttered silently, so none of the Avengers could hear.
He was about to explain himself, to explain all this but Captain America ("omg Jake it's Captain America!" "Meh, too american.") woke up the exact same moment.
"I- guys. Am I the only one seeing that?"
Huh? Steven turned around, looking at where the Captain was pointing.
Looking back at him was the drama-queen and pigeon himself, Khonshu.
Bollocks.
----------------------
[New York, Hell's kitchen harbor, 9 hours after the incident]
Khonshu was pleased.
Upon showing himself to the Avengers and Daredevil (and wasn't that a funny name? A mortal pretending to be Mephisto) they had reacted with fear and confusion.
He could feel it, their disbelief, their denial.
It was wonderful.
His Avatar was looking at him.
Now it was the wor- Steven, it was Steven, who was in control of the body.
Mhm.
He had hoped for Lockley to front, he could make any situation entertaining for the god but oh well.
The confusion of the Avengers because of the change of suit would be entertainment enough.
"Khonshu.", his son greeted, "Why are you only showing yourself now?"
"I weighted the options of watching you try and explain yourself and your servitude to me to their SHIELD and me stepping in to prove it, while simultaneously destroying their narrow world view and bathing in their fear and confusion.
The second option seemed more entertaining."
"Sorry bird brain 2 but I-"
"SILENCE WORM.
YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS KHONSHU, GOD OF THE MOON, PROTECTOR OF THE TRAVELERS OF THE NIGHT. YOU CAN BE THANKFUL THAT MY MOON KNIGHT HASN'T SACRIFICED YOU TO ME ALREADY."
The human kept quiet.
Good.
He turned to the Asgardian, who was bowing to him.
"Thor Odinson, I see that the Asgardians still call themselves gods, a disgrace.
But it is good to see that you still know who to bow to."
The Asgardian didn't dare lift his head, staring at the floor as he answered.
"Great Khonshu, I apologize for attacking your avatar.
If I had know he was under your protection I would have aided him instead.
Asgard hasn't forgotten your great present, the moon stone oru, for my greatest weapon, Mjölnir."
"Mhm, your pleading pleases me Asgardian.
Your weapon may return to you."
With a wave of his skeleton hand Mjölnir flew back into Thor's hand, who took it with poor concealed relief.
"I do hope that you don't forget my generosity Odinson."
"I won't your excellency."
Khonshu chuckled before turning to the other three Avengers and the horned man.
All 4 seemed ready to attack him, not tha it-
Loud gun shots could be heard echoing around the harbor, and the god could feel several bullets move through his body like a bird trough the air.
He turned to the worm that had tried to end him in this primitive way.
Natasha Romanoff, the Avenger he had been searching for a while ago was standing a few feet from him, gun in hand, her gaze blank.
The Asgardian stood up, trying to defuse the situation but Khonshu simply waved a hand, throwing him a few feet back.
In seconds, he stood before the spy, bird skull just a few inches from her face, his head tilted dangerously to the side.
"Mhm curious. You dare try to hurt a God?
I should gut you for your insolence."
She didn't flinch at his threat but something in her gaze hardened.
"I met a guy who thought he was a God, he could bleed too." ,she spat.
"HOW DARE YOU COMPARE ME TO THAT FOOL LOKI.
HE IS A CHEAP SORCERER AT BEST.
ME? I AM A REAL GOD."
This disrespect was unheard of and Khonshu would be damned if he let it unpunished.
He straightened up again, now towering over her, staff still in hand.
The other one was reaching out towards her ready to show her what would happen to those who disrespected him.
Suddenly a white blur moved towards them, stopping in front of the woman and halting the God's approach.
His Moon Knight.
"Steven Grant.
Get out of my way or surrender the body to Marc."
"No Khonshu!"
He titled his head again, a soft questioning hum escaping him.
His Moon Knight continued.
"You can't just kill people because they disrespect you.
She was just trying to protect her friends.
And you look pretty intimidating if I'm honest."
He chuckled and backed of a little, Steven Grant having already lightened up his fool mood.
"I do my son?"
("His son..?" "I don't know Tony... I don't know.")
He nodded awkwardly.
"Well then." He addressed the Avengers.
"You are lucky Steven Grant has the ability to lower my need for vengeance to some degree and that he favors you.
But you won't be receiving my mercy again if you decide to hunt him down.
He is MY Knight, you touch him, you die."
He then turned to the one called Daredevil, regarding him for a few seconds before nodding at him.
"Now I have other, more important matters to attend to.
I will visit you soon again my Moon Knight. Farewell."
With that the was gone.
----------------------
[New York, 2 days after the incident]
"Hey Mr. Moon Knight!" , he greeted the man, landing on the rooftop and sitting down next to him.
"Hey kiddo. And it's Marc right now." , he explained, smiling softly under his mask.
"You really need to go today?"
"Yeah. Sorry kid.
But we have a case in Cairo and Khonshu wants us to take care of it."
"Well I'm glad that I can at least say goodbye to you all."
Marc choked up a little at that.
To have them all recognized as different people lifted a weight of his heart.
He pulled the kid- Peter- he pulled Peter close.
"I will miss you too kid."
"Sí, me too buddy."
"And me Pete. You're a good kid."
When Marc pulled away, a tear was running down Peter's face.
He wiped it away, sniffling a bit before smiling a little. "Promise that you'll call."
He chuckled.
"I will kiddo, I promise."
