Marc Spector adjusted the camera in front of him slightly, angling it so it would be fully focused on his form when he sat down. He let out a shuddering sigh before pressing the small button on the top of the device, making sure it was recording.
The man shuffled backwards until he was able to sit down in the seat he had placed. Marc glanced side to side for a moment before turning to fully face the camera, a small red blinking light indicating that it was on.
“Well, I’m just going to start by saying hello and welcome,” Marc cringed at his words,” Gods, I sound like some shitty youtuber now.”
After the aftermath of Ammit and Harrow, Marc had spent a lot of time researching more into Dissociative Identity Disorder. He wanted to know more about the disorder and Steven had readily agreed with him, saying he should probably also know more about it too. It was a little hobby of theirs, getting to know about the condition they lived with.
Then they found out about Jake Lockley and that had been one hell of a shithole for a bit. Luckily, it had only taken a while for that to be sorted out and now the three of them tried their best to live with each other.
Steven had suggested writing notes to each other when they couldn’t get in contact (half of the notes from Jake were written in Spanish and Marc had to go buy a Spanish dictionary). Marc grudgingly agreed to it, though he mainly kept his notes as concise as possible unlike Steven who liked to ramble or Jake who had found a new love in turning his notes into poetry.
Lately, the system had turned to youtube in hopes of seeing how others lived with DID. Sadly, there was very little representation and Steven had sulked for weeks. The other two alters had also been slightly put out by the amount of misconception that was flying about online too.
(“Blimey, they think we’re demons,” Steven muttered as he squinted at the laptop screen, using the pad to scroll down a twitter conversation.
Marc huffed. “We aren’t, well, maybe Jake is but you definitely aren’t,” He joked, trying to get the alter fronting to cheer up.
“Te matare,” Jake grumbled from somewhere in the depths of their mind, his words slurred as if he had just woken up.)
Steven had been the one to suggest making their own youtube channel. He murmured about how alone he sometimes felt because there was no one else he knew who had the same condition they had and that maybe by doing this they could make others feel less lonely. Jake had been reluctantly dragged in by the history buff, just saying he didn’t care otherwise as long as they didn’t try to force him on camera. He’d only go on if he wanted to.
So that was how they had gotten to this point, Marc creating the channel and naming it the ‘MK System’. Steven had begged to be the one to design their image and background, creating some fancy Egyptian looking picture but including a little bit of all of them in it.
“Basically,” Marc started back up once he had realized he had been silent for too long,” The only reason this channel has been created is so that hopefully when someone sees this they won’t feel as alone as we did.”
Steven pushed against the front of their mind, lending unspoken support.
“We had a disorder known as DID, Disassortative Identity Disorder,” Marc breathed calmly, going through exercises Layla had taught them,” It is a disorder that forms in childhood from repeated trauma. The brain at such a young age cannot handle what is happening so it just… splits.”
He let himself be quiet for a moment. He knew he could do this. He had been in much worse situations than this.
“There is me, Marc. I’m what is known as the host, the one who fronts most often,” Marc carefully explained, making sure to use correct terminology,” There is also Steven, he’s British and known as the caretaker of the system. Finally there is Jake, he’s an asshole but he’s the protector. If there are anymore, we don’t know about them.”
The American man made eye contact with the camera as he spoke next. “The reason we decided to come on here and do this was because we don’t want anyone to feel as lonely as we did when we each discovered what we lived with. I only found out when I was 15 and Steven didn’t even know up until almost 7 months ago now,” Marc winced at that,” Jake somehow knew the entire time and elected to tell us nothing.”
“We don’t want anyone to think that they cannot live like us if they have this disorder. You can live with it, you are not possessed and you are not invalid,” Marc forced himself to remain focused,” It does take time and patience. I’m basically sharing a body with two other people who like different things, have different hobbies and we argue lots. For example, Jake and I love meat but Steven’s a vegan. Our life is full of compromises.”
Marc then glared at the camera. “If you do not believe that I have DID, I frankly do not care. Your one comment will not affect our lives and if you have time to come online and talk bad about other people then you’re a piece of shit. The life we all live is one we are happy with and whatever you say won’t change that.”
“All that is going to be on this channel is our experience on living with DID and whatever types of videos we want to make. Nothing will be restricted and if one of us wants to talk about our trauma they can. So, if that bothers you then click off. If one of us just wants to make a video on them rambling on about fuck knows what then they can. If someone doesn’t even want to make a video then they don’t have to,” Marc told the camera what was going to happen, his fingers thumping against his thigh as he spoke out loud.
Steven made his agreement known from inside their mind and out of the small mirror Marc could see in the corner of his eyes. The reflection in it was Steven, giving him a thumbs up with a dorky smile on his face.
“Hell, maybe this will be the only video on this channel and that’s it. Don’t expect much,” Marc mentioned and shrugged his shoulders.
“None of the stuff on here will be informational. Well, a bit of it might but it will mainly be of whoever is fronting and what they want to do. DID for us is different than what we’ve seen other youtubers on here post about and we just want people to know that it is alright to have different experiences than what you are being shown,” Marc explained gently, the same tone he would sometimes use with Steven,” DID can be awful but it has also given me some of the people I am closest with. Without Steven and Jake, I would have died long ago.”
He stopped speaking for a second, closing his eyes and letting himself remain calm. He breathed in through his nose and out his mouth.
“Anyway,” Marc continued after a minute,” This was basically an introductory video and what to expect and all that. I don’t know when videos will be posted or what, it’ll depend.”
“I guess thanks for watching and come back if you want to,” Marc finished off,” Bye.”
He stood up from his seat, shifting over to the camera and pressing down to the button to stop the recording. Marc let all the tension in his frame finally go, letting out a sigh in relief that he had finally finished. It felt like ages despite knowing that the recording only went on for a few minutes.
“How do you think that went?” Marc asked as he turned to face the mirror.
Bloody great, that’s what I think, Steven grinned broadly.
Jake’s voice quietly joined their conversation. Eras divertido! Hablaste torpemente y incomodamente. But apart from that you were alright, bastante beuno.
Marc nodded absentmindedly as he carefully took the camera off the stand he had put it on, moving it over to the laptop and plugging it in. It was probably best if he just uploaded it now and got it over with.
It took a few hours to edit and download before it was posted up on the new channel they had created under the title of ‘MK System Introduction | Marc’.
They had all agreed to putting their names at the end of any videos they uploaded, just so it wouldn’t get too confusing for the viewers.
Steven let out a small squeak in excitement once it had finally finished uploading and appeared on their youtbube page. Jake drawled out a ‘well done estupido’ before disappearing back into the folds of their mind.
Marc leaned back in his chair and let a small smile work its way onto his lips once he saw the video’s first view happen, resting his hands on the desk and humming.
