Afternoon tea had become not enough for you. And it wasn't long until you're convincing Bucky to meet you at the diner for Lunch, or a date night at the picture show, but Bucky's favorite was when you'd beg him for Malts. Your eyes pleading as you'd whimper out "Please?" How could Bucky ever tell you no? Not with those big puppy dog eyes.
So you'd walk hand and hand down to the little Malt shop on the corner. You'd find a booth for you both, clapping and giggling as you take your seat and reach for the menu. Bucky would look at you with raised brows every time. "Really doll we both know you're gonna get the same as always, Chocolate malt and side of fries."
Bucky would watch as you'd blush and fumble for your words. "Yes...well...I might want something different." You'd smile to him sheepishly and Bucky would feel himself falling even further.
"You're one to talk you know." You smirk to him from around the menu.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Bucky looks to you confused.
"Cheeseburger with all the fixin's, fries, A chocolate malt with extra whip cream and cherries, a coke, and a slice of apple pie." You wear a triumphant grin as you look at him. And it's now Bucky's turn to blush.
"To be far, I get the pie for you." He smiles to you softly and you feel your heart skip a beat. Realizing Bucky always did offer it too you when you'd eye it. He really did take care of you.
That's why you loved him so much. All the small things he did. Offering his jacket if you got cold, always taking the street side when walking down the sidewalk. On days when you thought you looked your worst, he would look at you in that way that made butterflies bloom in your belly. A breathy, "Beautiful" would always leave his lips. He memorized your malt order, and even got a slice of pie for you, knowing you'd want it.
You give him a dopey smile right as the waitress walks up. She bats her lashes as she looks to Bucky, "What can I get ya hun?"
Bucky just takes your hand, a dopey smile of his own, painted on his face. "My doll will have a chocolate malt and a side of fries, and I'll have a chocolate malt extra whip cream and cherries, cheeseburger all the way, side of fries, coke, and let me see......." He smirks at you and winks, "Oh yes a piece of apple pie." The waitress looks between the two of you, rolling her eyes as she makes her way to the kitchen.
Bucky loved when you looked at him like that, loved that he could take care of you like you did him. Sure sometimes you'd push him to do things he didn't always wanna do, but he always ended up having a smashing time. You'd just smile at him and cup his face, reminding him he could do anything, and after you spoke he felt like he really could. You made him a better man, made him want to be a better man. And he absolutely adored you for it.
You both sit and talk, your orders being placed infront of you shortly. Bucky just smiling as he pushed the pie your way. "Sweets for my sweet." He smiles, taking a giant bite of his burger. You can't help but giggle at his behavior, taking the fork provided and taking a bite, while wearing a huge smile of your own.
Yes malt shop days are Bucky's favorite, but he also enjoys the nights when he gets to walk you home. Walking hand and hand as the street lights slowly begin to illuminate around you. Your hand so soft and small in his large rough one. Sometimes he'd drape his arm over your shoulder, enjoying the feel of your body against his.
He keeps his pace slow, relishing in the moments with you in the moonlight. The cool night air always giving him an excuse to wrap you in his jacket, hoping you enjoyed his warmth and the smell of him, as much as he did yours. You would always smile to him shyly, but never refused. Letting him cascade the leather around you, pulling it close once it was settled on your shoulders.
He loved when you'd poke your arms through the sleeves, your hands unable to break free of the holes at the end. You'd push your hand free with a "Humph." Taking his hand in yours with a sly grin, proud at your little achievement. He was falling for you, further and further.
He loved that shy smile you'd get, when you both finally reached your front door. Fiddling with your fingers, you'd look to the ground then up to him through your lashes. "I had a really nice time James." Your voice so soft as you looked at him an anticipation.
It took Bucky's breath away everytime, but he wasn't one to keep a dame waiting. His lips hurriedly crashing to yours. He always planned to be gentle and go slow, but the moment your lips would meet, you'd moan into his mouth and something feral in Bucky would snap.
The kiss soon heating up, as his tongue begins to flick against yours. He'd tease you, flicking and messaging yours, over and over. You both would pull away panting, the need for air become to great. He knew your head had to be spinning as much as his was.
He'd hold you firmly against him, until he knew you had steadied yourself. You both sharing loving smiles. Tonight was different though, as you looked up to Bucky, he felt his heart swell. He could no longer hold it in, "I love you doll." He had a nervous smile, but one look to you washed away all his nerves.
You looked to him with such love, he almost didn't feel worthy. The corners of your eyes begin to fill with tears, as your hands came up to cup Bucky's face. "Oh James, I love you too."
The kiss this time was softer, the two of you trying to express how deep the love you felt for one another really was. Bucky pulls back, placing a gentle kiss to your forehead, as you lean against his chest. "I don't know what I ever did to deserve you doll, or your love. But I thank my lucky stars everyday that I do."
You both stand, embracing each other in the soft streetlights. Both smiling like fools, as you realize you had confessed your feelings, and they were recipricated. Neither knowing what the future holds, but knowing side by side you could face it all.
