Chapter 2
A little While later….
“Momma look at all the comics I got!” Micah holds up a pile of comic books to show you. “Look they even had a Captain America one for my age! I can’t wait to read it!” She says hugging it to her chest.
“That’s awesome baby girl! I know he’s your favorite.” You say giving her a kiss on the top of her head. “Momma and Aunt Susan got some that were pretty excited about too.”
“We can all read them when we get home together!” Micah says excitedly.
“Of course, we can bug.” Susan says.
*Ring ring*
“Oh, hold on a moment I gotta take this its work.” You say.
“You don’t have to work today, do you?” Micah says looking sad.
“No, I told them I wouldn’t be coming in today. I’m sure Mr. Raul just has a question.” You answer her.
“Yeah, he wouldn’t know what to do without you mama.”
“Hehe you got that right. Why don’t you go to the bounce house with Aunt Susan and Ill meet ya over there?” You say.
They look at each other and yell. “Race ya!” and head off to the bounce house.
You step off to the side of the building where it was much quieter with no people that you noticed. Answering Raul’s question about where something was. Micah was right without you he wouldn’t know where anything was in that place let alone how to run the place. Sighing you run a hand down your face. You loved working at the little book shop you did but you hated getting calls like this all the time.
“You Okay?” A voice asks.
“Huh?” You jump not realizing someone else was there.
“Oh, Sorry sorry.” The man says holding up his hands. “I didn’t mean to startle you. You just seemed…. stressed?” He questions.
“Hee…It’s all good just tired.” You look up at the man and are shocked to see Captain America standing right in front of you. “Oh…your, are you really?”
“Yeah, um…. Steve Rogers at your service.” He says holding out his hand.
“Wow. Well, it’s an honor to meet you, Steve. My names (Y/N).” You say shaking his hand with a smile.
“And its an honor to meet you as well.” He says smiling.
“Thanks.” You say with a giggle. “So, what are you doin here all dressed up like this.” You say gesturing to his suit.
“Oh yeah that.” He says pulling at his collar a bit. “I um…well I lost a bet with a friend. So, I had to wear the full suit here. I didn’t exactly know what for but once I saw the lines and all the signs for the day it made a little more sense.”
“Ah I see well I’m sure all the kids are loving it and probably a bunch of the adults too.” You say as you start to turn back towards all the activity. “Do you mind walking and talking? I’ve gotta meet some people over this way.”
“Yeah no problem.” Steve seems a little shocked that you want to keep talking to him and not at him like some of the other adults around here. “And yeah the kids are loving it some of them are a little shy at first but its really neat to see them open up after awhile of talking to them.”
“That’s awesome I love working with kids when they come into the shop I work at. They are some of my favorite customers.” You say with a big grin.
“Oh yeah what kind of store do you work at?”
“Oh, I work in a little bookstore it’s called BookWyrm. I love it there, I’m one of the managers and I get to do all kinds of programs with kids that come in its great.” You say talking animatedly.
“That sounds amazing. Sounds like you really enjoy it.” He says genuinely.
“Yeah, I really do I’ve always loved working with kids. I even thought about being a teacher for a while heh…but that didn’t really work out.” You sigh looking towards the bounce house seeing your little girl jumping. “But I’m glad for how it worked out.”
“That’s really neat sounds like things worked out good for you. I like being around all the kids too, they are a lot of fun.” He responds.
“MOMMA! MOMMA! Did you see me!?” Micah come running up to you yelling. “I jumped so high I almost touched the top!”
“I saw you baby girl. You got so high.” You say leaning down to her and giving her a big hug. “I thought you might hit that noggin of yours.” Kissing her all over her head she laughs.
“Momma! Stoppppp!” Micah laughs.
“Hmmm ok but one more.” You say before giving her a big kiss on her forehead.
Steve just stands to the side smiling at your interaction with your daughter. And looks around to see if her dad is there too, feeling momentarily sad at that thought. He sees another woman walk up to them.
“Aunt Susan Momma won’t stop kissing me!”
“I’ll save you little bug.” Susan says as she picks Micah up away from you as she continues to laugh. Then she sets her down with a pat on her head.
You hear Steve let out a little chuckle and look over at him with a smile. “Oh Micah! I want you to meet my new friend.” You say as you are holding your hand out towards Steve.
“OMG!” Micah yells out jumping up and down and waving her arms. “Your Captain America! You’re my favorite!”
“Oh yeah. Well thank you for that.” Steve says as he leans down to get to her level. “May I ask what your name is?”
“Oh yeah! My name is Micah!” She says excitedly.
“Nice to meet you, Micah.” Steve says holding his hand out to her, and she shakes his hand. “Ouch, wow you are strong.” Steve jokes with her shaking his hand in mock pain.
“Yeah, Momma says I’m the strongest girl she knows besides Aunt Susan.” Micah says flexing her muscles. “Oh, Aunt Susan this is Momma’s new friend Captain America! Isn’t that awesome!? This is my Aunt Susan!” She says pointing up at her.
Standing up Steve holds his hand out to your best friend. “Nice to meet you ma’am.”
“Uhhuh…You too.” She says looking between you and Steve suspiciously.
“Captain America sir?” Micah asks.
“You can just call me Steve if you would like. What can I do for you?” He asks her.
“I was just wondering is your shield heavy. Can I hold it?”
“It’s not too heavy would you like to try and hold it?”
“Will you help me it looks pretty big?” Micah asks him.
“Of course, here.” Steve gets down on one knee next to Micah and helps her hold the shield up.
“Momma, Aunt Susan, take our picture.”
“Alrighty Smile big.” You say as you pull out your phone to take a picture.
“Momma will you take one with us too?” Micah asks with her puppy dog eyes.
“Oh, uh sure baby girl.” You say handing your phone to Susan and heading over to where they were standing. “Alrighty baby girl upsy daisy.” You pick her up and stand next to Steve.
“Alrighty smile.” Susan says holding up the camera.
Steve steps closer to you and puts his hand on the small of your back with a smile on his face. You look over at him with a small smile on your face as Susan snaps a couple of photos.
“Alright, all done.” Susan says, handing your phone back to you. “What do you say Bug food time.”
“Yes Food!” She says then looks back towards Steve. “Can Mr. Steve get food with us?” She looks towards him.
“Oh…I would love to Miss. Micah, but I told a friend I would hang out here today to meet with all these people here.”
“Oh…” She looks down at the ground sad.
“But we could maybe swap phone numbers and maybe make plans to see each other again.” He says looking up at you.
“Yaaaaa!” She cheers. “Momma give him our numbers”
“Alright Alright if you insist.” You laugh.
“Well now only if you want to.” Steve says nervously.
“Oh, I was just joking.” You tell him. “I…I do want to.” You smile at him and hand him your phone. “Here if you just wanna put your number in.”
The two of you swap phone numbers and make plans to get in touch, before going your separate ways.
“Well, well, well, little Bug did you have fun today?” Susan asks Micah. “I think your Momma had a lot of fun today.” She says raising her eyebrow at you and giving it a wiggle.
You sigh as Micah answers her. “I had so much fun! We got so many comics and I got to jump in a jumpy house! And I met the real Captain America! That was the best day ever!” She says rambling about everything she got to do today. All the while Susan was giving you the eye wiggle look.
Steve’s POV
Walking back into the tower, Steve had a smile on his face. Some of the day may have been rough, but meeting (Y/N) and her daughter made it all worth it.
“Well, did you have fun with all the crazies today Capsical?” Tony says with a laugh.
Steve walks to grab a drink out of the fridge as his phone beeps.
We really enjoyed meeting you today! Thanks for being so amazing with Micah!
He smiles as he looks at the text and the photo that they took attached to it.
“I had a wonderful day, Tony. Thanks for all this.” Steve says as he put the drink in Tony’s hand and walks out of the room.
“Wha…. what? Wait!” Tony stutters out, as Natasha starts laughing at him from the other side of the room.
