Boyfriend
Maria always regrets not telling about her feelings for her because watching Steve flaunt Natasha around Stark’s party like arm candy was a little depressing. She can’t fault him for it because Natasha was one of the most beautiful women she’s seen, but she was a lot more than her looks.
Maria was about to go home, she was bored and watching the woman she loved with someone else wasn’t how she wanted to spend her evening. She went to the bar to order another drink when Natasha’s favorite song came on. She looked through the sea of dancing couples on the floor but she couldn’t spot her. She looked toward the lounge chairs and Nat sitting on the farthest chair with a bored look on her face. She downed her drink in one go, working up the courage to ask Natasha to dance.
I can't believe we're finally alone
I can't believe I almost went home
What are the chances? Everyone's dancing
And he's not with you
She crossed the floor quickly before walking to Nat. “You wanna dance?” She asked in a low voice. Natasha raised her head from her phone and smiled when she saw Maria. “Yeah.” Maria grabbed her wrist and led her to the floor.
The universe must have divined this
What am I gonna do
Not grab your wrist?
Natasha wrapped her arms around Maria’s neck as they swayed together. They were quiet for a while, enjoying being in each other’s arms. “Don’t know if I told you, but you look beautiful tonight.” Maria said, looking down at her. A light blush covered rose on Natasha's face,” Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself.” It was Maria’s turn to blush.
Instead of replying, she twirled Natasha who let out a giggle. “Why did you ask me to dance Ria?” Natasha asked. “‘Cause this is your favorite song and you were sitting alone.” Maria explained simply.
Natasha looked shocked, “You remembered my favorite song?”
“Yes, I remember most things you tell me. Why do you look so shocked?” Maria was confused.
“It’s just…Steve doesn’t really care enough to listen or remember things I like and when he does, he doesn’t remember.” she replied in a low voice.
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
Maria was angry, that asshole didn’t even care enough to listen to her interests! “Why don’t we go back to my place and watch Moonraker ? I know it’s your favorite Bond movie.” Seeing Nat’s eyes light up at the question, Maria wanted to simultaneously punch Rogers and kiss the woman in her arms. Natasha didn’t give a verbal answer, just grabbed Maria’s hand and walked toward the exit.
If either of them had turned around, they would’ve seen Steve pull Sharon into a kiss.
“Do you want something to change into?” Maria asked, after she shut the door to her apartment. Natasha said yes, so Maria led her to her room and gave her some sweats and a t- shirt. They were a little long on Nat, but they still fit.
I could be such a gentleman
Plus all my clothes would fit
Maria made popcorn while Natasha grabbed the DVD off Maria’s shelf. Like Natasha, Maria was a movie buff, and she had about 2 shelves full of movies. Nat could see some of the movies she recommended to Maria on the shelves plus some of her favorites and smiled to herself. At least she cares, she thought to herself.
“Did you find it? Or is it too high for you to reach ?” Maria joked. “Haha,” Nat laughed sarcastically. “It’s right here.” She held the DVD up. “Then, let’s watch.” And together, they watched with Natasha quoting her favorite scenes and Maria smiling softly at her the entire time. When the movie was over, the two women started talking, catching up with each other.
“Nat, why do you stay with Steve if he doesn’t treat you right?” Maria didn’t mean for the question to be so blunt, but she couldn’t think of another way to say it.
“I don’t know anyone else who is interested in me for any reason other than my body and the public doesn’t know I’m gay. Steve may be a bad partner romantically, he’s still a decent person for even agreeing to this arrangement. I mean who would want to be with a traumatized lesbian assassin turned Avenger.” Natasha muttered.
“I would.” Maria thought in her head, well at least she thought she did. “You would?” Nat inquired.
I guess it’s now or never, Maria thought.
“Yes, I would. Natasha, I’ve been in love with you for years but I didn’t say anything out of respect for your relationship. If I had known he was an asshole, I would’ve said something sooner.” Maria confessed. It was quiet for a while, neither of them speaking before Maria broke the silence.
“You don’t have to feel the same, I just wanted you to know you don’t have to settle for him and-” Maria couldn’t finish her sentence before Natasha kissed her.
“Woah.” Maria whispered to herself when they pulled apart. “If I had known it took a kiss to make ice cold Commander Hill speechless, I would’ve kissed you a long time ago.” Natasha joked.
“Can you blame me? Your lips are like soft pillowy clouds…I’m never going to live that down, am I?” Maria’s face was red with embarrassment.
“No, you’re definitely not. But it’s adorable you think my lips are soft pillowy clouds.” Natasha repeated the last part in a high pitched voice. “Tasha, shut up.” Maria whined, dragged out the P.
“I’ll never shut up about this. The woman I’ve had a crush on for so long, likes me back and thinks my lips are soft. This is the best day ever.”
“You like me back?” Now it was Maria’s turn to be shocked. “Yes, but I thought someone like you wouldn’t like someone like me.” Natasha replied.
“What do you mean someone like me?” Maria inquired.
“Maria, you’ve got a heart of gold, you care so much about the agents under your command even though they think you’re an ice queen. I’ve how you go above and beyond for everyone even if it’s at the expense of your health, what chance could someone with a past as bad as mine have with you?” Nat answered.
“Natasha, one of my favorite things about you is your pure heart. You’re the one who keeps the Avengers together. You’re the hero little girls want to grow up to be because you inspire them. I’ve seen the little things you do for the people you care about when you think no one is watching. Why wouldn’t I want to be with you?” Natasha leaned forward and kissed her again, this time more passionately.
“I have to break up with Steve.” Natasha said when they pulled apart.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I found a better boyfriend.” she smiled.
