Chapter 1

The sky so blue has never been this beautiful to look up at while her feet leads her to wherever. There's no destination or place to go to, what matters is to live in the moment in which she never had the freedom to do before. One thing Wanda is sure of is this freedom will remain with her. No one will ever take it away from her again.

Wanda does not know exactly how far she's gone that when she finally decides to focus back to the present, she can only feel fear.... of her. Why? She's not a monster.

"They're looking." Pietro said walking beside her.

"I know." She's still looking around, not understanding all the stares.

"For like 30 minutes now, all the people we passed by." There was a pause before he added, "We have to hide, Wanda. They might catch up."

Wanda scoffed, "Who? They're dead."

Oh, right. Their clothes are full of blood of those responsible for the years of violence and experiments behind their powers. That was foolish of them, thinking they'll have both of them on their side. Now they're ashes. Serves them right.

"Not them, Wanda. The authorities, they won't let us on the loose." There's hint of panic on Pietro's voice.

"We're victims, Pietro!" Just when she thought they can finally have freedom. But they're victims! They won't put them in jail for this, right? That can't happen. Looking around again, she saw parents covering their children's eyes and ushering them away. "We're all alone. We don't have anywhere to go." Now she's starting to panic as well. Her denial long gone.

"Are you lost, kids?" A man wearing all black asked while chewing some gum. If there's something suspicious about him, it is the all black get up and nonchalant reaction to their state. He was even able to walk towards them without the twins noticing. Pietro seemed to sense this too as he slowly held up his hands to his twin sister's. "I won't do that if I were you."

Wanda narrowed her eyes, he seems to know their abilities. With that warning, Pietro led them both out of that place. Leaving no trace as if they weren't there. But not before going back and pushing the man to the ground.

"I bet you didn't see that coming." Pietro smirked before they made their escape.

Wanda wanders around the hospital to visit the man they rescued three day before as ordered by Steve. The man would've been treated by their own doctors, but his family insisted to have him in the Metro-General Hospital.

Her time here is supposed to be quick, seeing and knowing his condition in person and reporting it to the Avengers. If he's completely fine with no other serious injuries and can talk to them then she'll finally say goodbye to this hospital she's been wandering for days now. To be honest, that's a waste of her powers when she can be throwing magic beams to the bad guys, but meh, at least she can go back immediately to the Avengers Tower.

It's only 7:30 in the morning and that means being 30 minutes early to her little appointment with the Neurosurgeon in charge of the patient. She'd be in time if she commuted, but Pietro woke up early and decided to drop her off.

For the mean time, she just spent her waiting time in the cafeteria. There's not a lot of people so she is able to watch the few who's currently inside: staffs who's on a night shift and hasn't had any sleep yet, guests who are there to visit a patient, staffs just arriving.

And oh, of course, interns who are exhausted in their shift, but also have to review for their board exam.

Wanda chuckled when she saw the intern almost fell asleep while literally eating. Poor her. A laptop in front of her, books around her, and also eating her first meal of the day. Oh, she just noticed the three empty coffee cups.

It has been a few minutes when looking at her wristwatch woke up the intern. She didn't even bother cleaning her mess and just bolted out the door while saying, "Sorry, Miss Rodriguez. I'll clean it up later!"

That little scene made her also look at the time. 7:57 am.

"He woke up two hours ago. He might wake up again by tomorrow midnight, but you can't talk to him." Doctor Stephen Strange said boringly looking at everywhere, but the Avenger.

"Is he fine?"

"He won't die." Wanda just shrugged, used to it. "Are we good now?"

She shook her head, "When can he be discharged?"

"After you are able to talk to him, whatever it is you want to talk about."

She sighs, "I might be wasting your time, Doctor. I'm letting you go now."

The Neurosurgeon gave her a little nod before going back inside his office.

Nice.

Before going back to the Tower, she decides to pass by the cafeteria to see that the intern's stuffs are no longer there and the table has been cleaned.

"You stayed the night?" Pietro surprisingly asked to tease Tony Stark seeing him joining their breakfast.

"I still own this building, kid."

Tony Stark is not always in the tower although he spends almost the entire day there. He has a big apartment nearby that they all know where, they just choose to respect each other's private space. They think he has a secret wife or girlfriend though because why would someone buy a place literally a taxi away if it means just living alone? They have privacy in their own rooms in the Tower especially the owner himself who has the whole penthouse.

And Pietro's overreacting. It's only twice, sometimes thrice a week that Stark stays in his little apartment.

"I'm 28 years old."

"Talking about who's the oldest, Cap wins." Tony smirked looking at their leader who's cooking breakfast.

"Good morning!" The youngest of the group greets, Kate Bishop. She's not fully sent on missions yet though. She's only 18 so she's like an Avenger-in-training. Clint Barton brought the kid to the Avengers Tower a month ago saying that she doesn't leave him alone after 'helping' him complete his mission.

"Morning, Kate."

"Oh god, I can't still believe I'm in the same room with the Avengers." They laughed, finding the kid funny. It's literally been a month already.

"You still have to go to school, right?" Steve asked, preparing the table.

"Umm yeah?"

"Then hurry up and stop being such a fan." Clint entered the dining area, still looking sleepy. He went back from a mission at 2 am.

The breakfast were quiet and the Avengers who has no plans for the day decided to stay in their respective rooms. That was also supposed to be the case for Wanda, but she got a message from Strange's resident that their patient is good to be discharged now.

That means going to the hospital. Hoping she doesn't have to do the talking, she went to Steve and fortunately for her, the Captain will do it. She'll just come to accompany him.

While that happens, she wanders around the hospital again. This'll be the last time she'll be here for the mean time. Being here is not that new for them, most of their rescues are sent here — if not in the Tower — and if not Wanda, the other Avengers are tasked to do what she did. Probably it's Kate next time.

Only Pietro knew this, but when they were young, Wanda dreamed of becoming a doctor just like any other kids then. She thinks they're amazing for saving lives. Sadly, that dream was crushed. That didn't stop her from appreciating doctors though. And she was able to save lives, in another way. As an Avenger.

Her little wander made her realize how pressure the doctors and nurses have on their shoulders. To be responsible for this big of a life. Their every decisions are important, their knowledge, and experience. All of that while being awake for more than 24 hours already. Exhausted, but they have to keep going because every second counts.

This is why they are amazing.

Her feet led her back to the cafeteria, wanting to try their food this time.

"You're working too hard, intern." She heard from the pair who sat in front of her.

Oh, it's the same intern from two days ago. Wanda finally gets to see her this close. Last time they were at each end of the room. "Just like any of them did." Stealing a glance at them, she saw her not even looking at the one talking to her and only had her eyes on a book.

"Yes, but you're working extra hard." The guy said. It seemed to be a resident by the way he calls her by the nickname 'intern'. But he's not wearing a white coat and he's wearing a sunglass in a covered place so maybe not. "I'd bet you'll pass regardless if you review or not."

"I'm not a genius."

"You are smart." The intern scoffed. "I'm just saying don't die studying." Then the mad stood up and unfolded a blind stick.

Oh.

"You really went here just for that?" The doctor said a little loud, but she didn't get an answer.

This close and with no one between them, Wanda is able to look at her clearly. First of all, she's a redhead. And maybe she's staring a little too long and looking like a creep because the intern glanced up back at her which confirmed she has green eyes. It didn't last long though before the books are given more focus again.

Wow.

A second later, Wanda is seated in the table across the redhead. What has gotten into her? She has no idea. At that moment, she followed what she thinks is the best thing to do. And she wants to say this to the doctor in front of her who's giving her a confused look.

"Thank you... for making sure that people stay healthy and alive..." She smiled gently before looking at the name in her coat, "Doctor Romanoff."
